How come? Either we've got a very special group here (which is true to some extent ), or there's something wrong with the way women are being portrayed here.

I think that women willing to post regularly in a heavily male, often very crude and aggressive environment like the COR are going to be a bit different from the norm...

haha... so true! American girls in my experience expect guys to be fucking mind readers. Girls from Europe and ex Soviet states don't mince words... you know damn well what they mean and what they want/don't want.

I've never met a European woman in my life.

Yep! All the Soviet block girls I have met/know are very blunt and clear about their intentions if they have an interest and you show interest.

You haven't met a TA either, so that doesn't surprise me.

Kevin: truffle shuffle hahaha. I fucking love that movie.

Nope. Basically I just have trouble meeting people. I feel like it's going to be next to impossible to develop friendships once I get outside the safety net of school...

Fuck.

Yeah dude, same here. Did you know that the DVD release has a scene that was only in the theatrical release and not the VHS release?

I thought you met a potential friend a week or two ago? It's not that hard, damnit!

Posted by The17sss on Feb-12-2009 06:22:

hmmm... I had no idea. What scene was it? I might not remember because 99 of the 100 times I saw it was on VHS

I myself have never seen the scene either, but it is some octopus that is in the scene when they are jumping into the water from the ship or something like that.

I did. But right now she's just "person I talk to during / before class" rather than "person I hang with outside of class." Hopefully that will change. She's actually the first person I've met in real life who uses Reason for music production.

Well it will be if you keep up with that attitude. Trust me, most people are very open to new friends. I know I am

Posted by Arbiter on Feb-12-2009 06:38:

A lot of the things that most women do when it comes to their male "friends" are, consciously or not, really about establishing control. It's no wonder the men being controlled don't much care for it. What surprises me is how many otherwise intelligent men seem utterly oblivious to the fact that they are being manipulated.

Definitely the former. Of course ALL women aren't ALL bad. But in my personal experience, I've met more shitty women than cool women.

Oh, I see, and yeah, me too

So people's social experiences in the real world can be measured by how many people they've met via the internet these days?

Nothing at all. But purposely putting out sexy signals to guys who are supposed to be in the "just friends" category is a problem, imo.

(Seriously though, I really don't think telling is the right approach. It's akin to saying "Hey, do you wanna be my friend?" )

10/10 for xkcd usage.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Feb-12-2009 14:51:

I think that particular xkcd was pretty weak really. The whole "girls date jerks and leave nice guys alone" thing has to be be the most tired story in webcomics.

Xkcd is good because it doesn't usually deal in the mundane and boring material that a lot of comics rely on.

What is the fucking point of developing a secret crush on her and hoping something more will develop? If you just flat out tell her then one of two things happens:

1. she feels the same way about you and now you know it so you can go after her if you want

2. she doesn't feel the same way so if you decide to still be friends with her you already know its pointless to develop feelings for her because its going nowhere. of course that doesn't mean you won't go out and get wasted with her some night and end up having meaningless sex but thats all good too

Hey that second part is the secret! You can't let everyone know that.

In that particular case, it's clearly a parody because, those guys that are too afraid to do something about their feelings usually see themselves as being "too nice" and thus blame the girls (and the guys they date) for his cowardice.
