| Originally posted by Moral Hazard Jamie speaks the truth. I generally put in between 10-12 hours at the office and working from home per day, help Mrs. Hazard with anything she's doing while I'm home, play with my daughter, and still manage to not just take care of shit that needs fixing in the house but building decks, finishing basements, renovating, all my own plumbing, etc. I've remodeled about 70% of my home in 3 years and the only things I've had to pay someone else to do are the windows and furnace. Why do I do this... certainly not due to money... no, I do these things myself because that's what a fuckin' man does! Men are self-sufficient and no, being able to afford a plumber doesn't make you self sufficient, being able to do the fuckin' plumbing does. What kind of man puts himself in the position that he has to rely on others to do the things he wants/needs done? A weak, pathetic shell of a man, that's what kind; because, being a man means being able to take care of yourself and your family and if you can only do that by paying people to do it for you then you're pretty fuckin' useless when the money runs out or no one is available (or willing) to relieve you of your duties. It's pretty damned unfortunate that popular culture, pop psychology, and a generation of parents teaching their young men to be kinder and gentler has lead to such a sissification of western men... what's even more unfortunate is that there are people who don't realize how little they resemble a man or believe that the ability to pay someone else to do what is really your responsibility somehow makes you a man... worse yet... most of these men feel smugly superior to those real men they pay to do what they can/will not do themselves. |
I lol'd at fart in the kitchen and bang my wife. that was good stuff.
I don't own a car but i'd like to think i'd learn enough about it if i got one that I'd be able to fix minor things. Fixed my kitchen sink leakage one time and pretty good at painting/decorating.
I have a beard though.

| Originally posted by blitz~ you need to get down some basic economics. today, we are only so prosperous because every person and even country to some extent specializes in some task. the plumber is much better and faster at plumbing than you are. although plumbing is a bad example, because it is not a very challenging job. but if everyone of us just fixed, built and produced their own stuff, we will be back to caveman times. nike can produce 100 000 shoes or something like that per hour, you would take hours longer, if not days to produce something of less quality. you on the other hand educate and specialize in your own field and thus add value to the economy. this way EVERYONE is better off if they provide the service they're best at. even countries specialize to some extent, germany say makes better cars than the us, the us makes better computers. i buy us computers, you buy german cars and we are both better off and enjoy a higher standard of living. if i spent all the time i spend on my specialized education building my own house and making my own cloth and growing my own food, everybody would be sort of self-sufficient but at a very low standard of living. i think if i had a wife and children they'd be way better off if i spent my time educating myselfm to earn lots of money and to be able to get them a good education instead of laying bricks somewhere in my backyard LOL? |

And other times when things need to be repaired at least to a basic level quite urgently. It is ridiculous how retarded some guys are these days.. people take their car to the mechanic to change the oil (something that takes about 5 mins to do in your own garage) or a drive belt. I've met guys that couldn't change a tyre on the road and had to call for assistance. Some people can't even hang a picture on a wall ffs.. they end up calling a picture hanger (wtf kind of profession is that anyway?). I've lost count of the number of times something has gone wrong at a friends house and they wanted to call someone to come and fix it for $50 and I managed to do the repair for them in under 30mins. |
