John Terry's a bit of a prick, but I don't have as much against him as the players I mentioned. Frank "Humourless" Lampard doesn't seem too popular either.

I agree with you apart from Anelka. When we signed him I thought 'oh fuck, moody french ****' but he worked his ass off, really bought into the ethic of the team and we saw him do things he never had before like track back for the team. Got a lot of respect for him for that.

can be seen pretty much every game that he goes down looking for a penalty

He acted as a spokesperson here, because those insinuations were done by players and other people of the staff (I think), I don't believe he came up with those comments all by himself.

slow claps for all you chelsea haters. i love it.

i don't know who said it, maybe 'stren', but you're right, money can't buy you the actual championship. but what money can do is buy the personnel to put your club in the position to compete for the championship.

my comment about ronaldo running roughshod over barca was not one to be interpreted as me switching to being a man u supporter, rather i was trying to highlight the fact that man u's payroll is almost as high as chelsea's, and so when may 27th rolls around, we will indeed see if money does influence who will win the champions league.

the sad irony is, as poorly as chelsea took their defeat yesterday, y'all have managed to display even worse behaviour celebrating their defeat.

congratulations.

try to act like you've been there before.

what the fuck are you talking about?

My club has been on the end of bad decisions, one even more ridiculous against manchester united this season where they got a penalty when it clearly wasn't. We were once relegated after a really bad call that cost us tv money that nearly sent us bankrupt. Never ever did our players behave like that. Players like Drogba & Ronaldo make it so hard to even tell when there has been contact with their cheating and blatant disregard for the spirit of the game, so why shouldn't we laugh when they're on the receiving end of things like this, and they embarass themselves in such ways? Perhaps if they had more dignity then we as fans would show the same, but why should we when they cheat, lie and are solely in it for their personal gain?

Either this season or last, Chelsea beat Newcastle solely on a ridiculously bad call too. Referees are put under so much more pressure by these players because they have to guess sometimes if something happened, because half of the time it didn't and they roll around as if they've just seen Yukii's catflap.

Yeah, because being glad someone lost is exactly (or worse, according to you) than chasing and yelling at referee's faces, making threats, and screaming "it's a fucking disgrace" when the entire world is watching.

It's called trash talking sports. Welcome to the big leagues.

my last comment was written after a very long afternoon and evening of beer drinking.

note to self: avoid posting when in that kind of condition.

haha.

i'm glad that everybody is passionate about sports, i am too. i look forward to a good final.

*shakes head that i'm the only TA that supports chelsea*

I hate normally dislike Barca, but if Chelsea had gone through I would have had to start ripping trees out of the ground in anger.

That might qualify as irony if I (and we) hated Chelsea because of how they acted at the whistle. Unfortunately for you, that's not true. I was cheering Man United in last year's final because I didn't want Chelsea to win. Everyone in that bar last night hated Chelsea before Drogba ran out in flip-flops at the end. The fact your team acted like a bunch of stroppy pricks when bad refereeing decisions cost them is merely the icing on a decidedly unsavoury cake.

Tom Henning Ovrebo receives death threats after Chelsea-Barcelona draw
By staff writers
May 08, 2009
Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo has received death threats following the controversial Chelsea-Barcelona UEFA Champions League match at Stamford Bridge on Thursday morning.

Police in Ovrebo's home city of Oslo have revealed that they are investigating death threats issued via the internet against the 42-year-old, who was the target of an angry outburst from Chelsea players at the end of the match.

"We are watching closely what is being posted on the internet," an Oslo police spokesperson said.

"Anything we believe would threaten his personal safety will be taken seriously."

Large crowds of media have descended on Ovrebos Oslo home as they wait for his return. Ovrebo was given a police escort and smuggled out of the London after the match, and he is likely to need similar protection when he arrives in Norway.

Chelsea condemned the death threats on their website, the club saying it would take "the strongest action" against season ticket holders or members who had been involved in threats towards Ovrebo.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who was at the centre of the Blues players angry outburst towards Ovrebo, has also issued an apology on the club's website.

Drogba faces potentially severe sanctions from UEFA over his conduct, which was aggravated by him screaming into a television camera that the official had been a "f---ing disgrace", forcing broadcasters to apologise to viewers watching the match live.

"I was very upset at what happened during the game, but having seen the pictures on TV I accept that I overreacted," Drogba said in a statement.

"I also accept that the language I used did not set a good example for those watching at home, especially children.

"I regret that in the heat of the moment I let out my incredible frustration and disappointment in this way, and for that I apologise."

The Spanish press, meanwhile, steered away from the refereeing controversy, saying that Barcelona deserved to progress to the final against Manchester United and that the result was thanks to "divine intervention".

Even AS, a pro-Real Madrid newspaper, declared "the best team went through" and that "Barcelona's footballing philosophy deserved it".

Spanish sports newspaper Marca lauded Andres Iniesta's injury-time goal, describing the midfielder as "the hero of London".

Marca even took aim at Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink, saying the result was payback for when Hiddink's South Korea team controversially ousted Spain at the 2002 World Cup.

"Hiddink has forgotten his' friends' in Korea" the headline read.

i just put this game on my calendar because i'm a huge dork. last year's final was ridic, made me actually enjoy watching soccer.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on May-08-2009 02:22:

Chelsea fans seem to threaten the referee every time they play Barcelona. Far from the first time this has happened.

I think you're referring to Colombian defender Andres Escobar. He scored an own goal in a match against USA which Colombia ended up losing 2-1 and failed to qualify for the second round.

He was actually shot and killed outside a bar in Medellin.
