They definitely need to go back to where ever it is they're from.

Are you aware of all the other civil wars taking place around the world today?

They can protest all they want, but they should keep in mind the rest of the population also living here. They want respect, but the won't be getting any with stunts like this. I lost all respect after hearing that they were using children and youth to keep the cops from using force. What gives them the right to act like douchbags using kids as leverage to push cops around and throw police bikes around. Not sure whats so peaceful about that.

Posted by Skipper on May-11-2009 13:47:

Clever tactic bringing the kids. The kids have been part of the protests the entire time, and it's kept things peaceful I expect.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Nothing exciting ever happens in Toronto, so I find this kind of interesting. Good for them for bringing attention to their cause by disrupting every one else - it's certainly the main reason I've learned anything about the situation. While their tactics may not necessarily win votes, it's drawing attention to the issue.

Poor people stuck in traffic, wah wah wah. Cry me a river.

So if you were stuck in traffic for 3 hours and it completely ruined your night. Would you feel the same way?

for me, the tamil situation has become secondary issue now

this is about whether civil disobedience and whether this ILLEGAL MOB gets away with breaking the law

Really annoyed at the Tamil's now ... that was pretty "cheap" to block off the cops.

yes. this is all a liberal problem.

if you didn't sound like a right-wing broken record so much, your actually sensible points would likely resonate more with people... it's a shame because you make sense a lot of the time.

wow - I have been hiding in my own little world of studio and fields and galls ... with no internet and no TV ...

wtf is this .... these 4 day protest and "lets block the highway" and people will listen ugh

Ignatieff's response is to meet with the tamils. Mcguinty has expressed "sympathy" for them.

Where is the condemnation? To be honest I am shocked that the wimpiest of them all, Miller, actually did condemn the gardiner blockade.

If the conservatives came out with this drivel id be slamming them too. Just as I am disappointed that Harper has morphed into a Red Tory or worse! But thats a whole other thread!

yes, i think that the Tamils are deluded if they think that canada will help them in their cause. they have a known association to terrorist activity and the people of toronto will not be sympathetic to their cause after this.

i work right at college and university, i had to go into work several times over the weekend to check on my experiments and i missed time points and got a parking ticket because i couldn't get to my parking spot. i hate this. these people are not winning any favors with me. i am concerned about going into work this week.

the worst part about it is that i heard that they are using a shield of young 14-16 year old girls to surround the adults so that police would not want to hurt the children. that is lame.

What did you expect, primitive people, primitive thinking. They really believe that the government gives two shits about their cause. I mean, its not nice what is happening over there. Violence is never right, but these stinky bastards need to protest for the right reasons.

Unless it directly affects you..i.e. you were stuck in traffic..i don't see why you have any right to spew hate..but it's not really a need is it? More like a deep seeded want..

I really couldn't care less..people have a right to protest..and ya, maybe they're idiots for going on the Gardiner..and maybe if i was stuck in traffic, i would be annoyed..but than again...it would be just another day in my life of commuting..

It just scares me how many people out there are just ready to spring into action to let the inner bigot out...

I refuse to believe that people are this traumatized because there was a protest that closed a major highway..give me a break.

Posted by E2EK1EL on May-11-2009 15:16:

it would of effected everyone this morning, driving or ttc if they didn't move ... even DVP was shutdown on a sunday night b/c of the protest.

Posted by riskytrader on May-11-2009 15:22:

I actually was on the Gardiner right before the Spadina exit as this happened. I was stuck on there for about 45 minutes before I decided to turn around and drive the wrong way on the Gardiner and get off on Jameson. I passed by two cops and they were sympathetic and were like get off on Jameson.

Had I not done this I would have been stuck for 5 hours. It is absolutely ridiculous that the police allowed them to access the Gardiner and affect traffic in this way especially on Mother's day. Protests done peacefully are legal but barring a major highway should have led to many arrests. These people had children on the Gardiner and they are very lucky that a riot from all of the people stuck in their cars did not break out. Had this been the states I'm sure it would not have ended peacefully. I might have been sympathetic to their cause had they not taken measures to affect our daily lives but sorry, not happening any more.

I did take some cool pictures though

Ignatieff's motives are clear, win their votes for the next election. Again, for McGuinty, its about votes. The NDP would love to swoop in and empathize, because this is right up their alley. McGuinty could care less about the conservatives in Ontario, because their party is broken, and clearly not a threat, but the NDP is (in Toronto).

The whole protest is idiotic to say the least. They are protesting, for the government to do something. Have they even looked at what powers the Fed has? The entire thing is so unorganized, which is demonstrated by the fact that these people just show up, no coordination.

Then there is their general appearance. If you want to be taken seriously, fuckin comb your hair you vagabonds. These people look like they all just roll out of bed, then hop on TV and start talking nonsense. There is a general air of desperation, and illogical thinking when it comes down to it.

But it has to be said, which I have not read in this thread, that Tamils and Sri Lankan's should be treated differently. Don't hate on the Sri's, most of Toronto's restaurants are filled with them as our cooks, don't loose your lunch!

Posted by mute79 on May-11-2009 15:32:

^^ They seemed pretty organized to me when I was in Ottawa last month.. Couldn't get near the parliament hill

Posted by exstasie on May-11-2009 15:37:

But honestly though...

What do they expect our government is going to do??

Send some aid, reinfocements, get-well cards to the civilians?

I don't think our government will be providing any kind of assistance or aid to the a terrorist organization.

We should just send them all on a bus to the UN and they can continue their protests over there to someone who can 'try' to do something.

Megabus has cheap deals to NYC.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on May-11-2009 15:41:

I say the government just ask for proof of citizenship and if they can't provide proof...send them back home.

can't help but see the similarities between Tamil and Kosovo.. both were labelled as terrorists by the west, and both were seeking independance.. you can thank Steven Harper for illegally recognizing Kosovo's independance last year

hate to say it, but its just gonna get worse with these protests.. the conservatives opened the pandora's box w/ Kosovo, and they're keeping their mouths shut w/ the Tamils.. every group around the globe that feels it should secede and be recognized as a country will take it to the streets

*sigh*
