yea no it's just not a good idea to get married before 24.

I agree.....I know a bunch of people that are like 19 and 20 and are married and I don't know...they seem happy for now but I don't really see it lasting (I'm such a negative nancy I know lol) and recently a friend I went to middle school with became engaged (she just turned 19 in February) but she says she's going to wait until she finishes college and stuff which I think is wayyyy better than just getting married right away.

But when you think about it, a lot of people way back when got married really young. My grandma from my dad's side got married when she was 14 or something and her and my grandpa were together until the day they died (well, he died first in his 60's and she lived to be 97 but never remarried after his death) and the same goes for my great grandma (from my dad's side too)..I just think it's THIS generation that can't really do the whole getting married young deal.

I don't know......I just think they are rushing things to bit and will eventually end up divorced or something. It's rare to see a couple that got married at 18 (in today's world) last.

I also think it's better to wait. I had just turned 29 and I was surprised it happened that soon. The difference in maturity between, like, 21 and 28 is staggering. Especially for dudes.

yeha they used to get married rlly young back then too but they actually coped with sickness, money issues, & everything else that came their way.. today theres one small fucking problem & there goes the divorce papers..

they have no real sense of commitment or trying to resolve & amend things or coming to a compromise.. when you're married ur bound to have arguments.. ive seen my parents fight really really bad & my mom cry but they're just bumps on the road.. they get over it in the end..

+1

It's sad really. People think marriage is a breeze and then when they get married they start seeing problems they just take the easy way out and get divorced instead of working things out. It's ridiculous. I'm really scared of ending up with a guy like that lol. I've heard people say marriage is kinda like a second job.

yea but it's just a vicious cycle and those people grew up in broken families with fighting and divorce and war. they have fucked up perceptions of what marriage and love is supposed to be like and bad parenting. it's rare to have loving parents in their 60s or 70s who have been married for over 50 years and are still in love. it's very rare.

Don't be so quick to assume or blame it on broken families. It has little to do with having broken families, and more to do with the lazyness of the people. They don't want to work at it. They want it to just work. They think marriage is all just love and fairytales.

yes you're right, you bring up a good point. in that case, it's the media's fault for portraying a distorted and faulty image of love.

This sounds like mental rape. Call me.

So do parents with all the Disney movies and fairytale books.

Although I think that ones from families with 1 parent, actually work at it more to avoid ending up like their parents. I don't know how true that is, but I think it is very much a possibility at the very least.

So what do I want out of life?

To be happy. Whatever that entails. Comfortable living (50k/yr salary is fine by me), wife, MAYBE kids (I don't fucking know. I go from wanting them to not wanting them to being on the fence all the time.), and most of all, to travel with my future wife.

i want to dominate the world like tiesto has

Posted by RapidFire on May-29-2009 06:52:

thats a very good question. and I have a vague answer because no matter what you picture, life makes treats you to something different. generally and essentially speaking i always see myself with a woman that I love, a job that I love in a place that I love. how all these things come together I don't know but that's the goal.

I think those people are fucking retarded. No way do you know what you want in life at that age. They may THINK they do, but even in a couple of years you'll grow up more and realize what you really want. I also think those people think they are "adults" and want to live the "grown up life". Fucking idiots.

And when our grandparents got married at young ages, they still had those moral values instilled in them of "I will never get divorced and I am going to stay married even if I hate that person until I am in my grave".

I think it's also that they learned a lot more responsibility and being less selfish. Couples that get divorced often do so because one feels like he needs to pursue other dreams / goals in his life and his partner is hindering him. To me it seems that this loosening of commitment, responsibilty and "settling down" is characteristic of todays society.

Posted by squirrelly on May-29-2009 15:54:

I agree. They were taught at a young age to work and help the family and to respect commitments.

Holy fuck, I just said I agreed with you.
