Posted by AY STAR on Jun-23-2009 12:25:

at the end of the day pacha is a business
so like z was saying, they won best club, they are basically their only competition at this point for big club in nyc
they will only continue to grow and grow
with that being said, yes they are a business but that does not give them the right to have rude and shady workers

i had 4 pretty bad experiences with them

1) the night markus and svd were there back in o7
i was going down the stairs to coat check to grab my coat, before the end of the night and a big mob scene, some drunk or banged up on drugs kid bumped into me hard so i told him bro take it easy
the kid took a swing at me...now the bouncer was at the bottom of the steps and saw the whole situation, i didnt hit the kid back but just grabed his arms to prevent him from swinging more and hold him still cause i didnt wanna fall down the steps, the bouncer saw the whole thing and still kicked me out i was like bro i didnt even do nutin and he was a total dick about it and told me "i dont care get the f*ck out"

2) carl cox & calderone at pacha oct 2007, it was like 10 bucks before midnight i get to the club at around 11, the line was not bad usually like a 20 min wait..any how it took me 55 min to get to the front, when i get the cashier and it was only one at the time, it was 11:59 she told me hold up and stoped the line for a min or 2 then another cashier came on and said ok now its 25 bucks i was like are u serious i was here, she said shes just doing her job, which i understand i just didnt like how they had one cashier open and it was delaying the whole line

3)new years day 2008 me and my friends get to the line, and the head bouncer tells my boy "you cant come in u got into a fight here last week" my friend is like huh and the bouncer was like "i know you ur name is lawerence ur a real punk" my friend is like "wat r u talkin about my name is mike look at my id" the guy was really rude about it and didnt even care...my friend called a promoter from inside and had to come out and settle the whole thing, and the guy was still being a jerk after his id said his name was not lawerence and 3 other pacha workers said it also

4) new years day 2008 i go to the basement bar and i ask for a drink
she fills it 3/4 of the way full, i pick it up and look at it and i said nicely "excuse me miss can you fill it up the rest of the way?"
she looks at me and goes "oh, you want double the alchol..that will be another 10 bucks" i laughed and put the drink down and walked away

then later on the bartender on the mainfloor was chargeing $8 for a vodka and tonic and the bartenders on the 3rd floor were chargeing $10 or $11 for the same drink...was their vodka magic vodka? did it come from the same place that jack bought his beanstalk beans?

between my stories and alot of friends stories...i feel they need to work on how they treat their customers,, yea it is a very busy and stressfull business to be apart of but just listen to people's feed back and try and work with them cause we have patrons do have some say
we do support their club after all

I've never had a problem with Pacha and the door bouncers always give me and my gf red bands to go up in vip if we want.

+1!! best movie ever.

perhaps we ouugh to consolidate out complaints into one thread? maybe they are more likely to read it if there is a specific thread for it.

probably wishful thinking that Pacha would actually read what people have to say and make some changes......but one would think that regular patrons (NOT just the people who come out for Tiesto and ATB and dissapear the rest of the year....) would gave some criticism that ought not be ignored.

no worries my dear.

They are already reading this one...as well as the Benassi one as well as LAST years ATB one....

If you know of other threads where people state issues...please let me know, and I will make sure they have those links as well.

I have to say- i dont know that theyll DO anything but i at least received an immediate repsonse with concern- so Ill have to give them that.....we can all act like we care though...so well see what happends.....be nice to at least hear "sorry" or "this is what we are going to do to rectify this"

Based on people's reviews...the wait staff seemed bitchy, the security seemed bitchy, even ATB seemed bitchy lol. Maybe it was the heat. Idk.

For the short time I was there though, the crowd seemed VERY into his set. Maybe he needs a bigger venue...?

I dont agree- i think the main reason we are all really going off on this thread is because weve all noted that we

A) didnt go because of past experiences and turns out the night was exactly how we expected it to be

B) Had yet ANOTHER complaint about the club

C) yet another RUDE or non-caring encounter with ATB

im sure the crowd was into the set...its ATB, at LEAST 50% of that crowd could care less about meeting him...but some of us die hard fans have shown him a ton of support and he shits in our faces....he doesnt HAVE to say hi or anything, so the ATB complaints are really just to us theres nothing to be done there.

I hear ya. Just reading through the reviews, it seems like people are relating this past Friday to like..."The Perfect Storm" of all club nights.

That was the only crazy night I've experienced there so far, so my impression was that it was mostly due to how packed the club was. I don't mean to discredit other people's experiences there... I've just never had any issues there personally. Either way though, I don't see them NOT getting wind of this thread

Bus drivers, diner waitresses, and MTA employees are all way friendlier than most Pacha employees, or a lot of clubs' employees for that matter... I've made a conscious decision not to support it unless my friends are playing there... Employees at places like Love and Sullivan Room have so much more work and wear & tear demanded on them (A.K., the doorman????) and do it with a smile on their faces and some sunshine to pass around to the club attendees...

Dani Lehman headline night!

idk man...I took the #73 bus from Newark to West Orange almost all of high school and that bus driver was a DICK!

Maybe he gave birth to one of these evil Pacha employees.

I kid

Although he really was a prick.

lol I love my job, but I totally agree. I work hard all week and have (usally) only ONE night a week that I go out....I want that one night to take my mind off things, and let loose.

and whatever happened to customer service anyways? last time I checked, if a restaurant f*cked up a meal, they try to make it right by re-ordering, giving a free drink, etc....Its the one thing I hate about clubs, is because they feel like because they are the only big room, that they can treat their partons in any sort of way. They are in for a HUGE wake up call the day another club opens. They will watch their money go down the tubes.....

(I would like to reiterate that, this was my first big complaint about a pacha staff, and a BIG complaint it was! however, based on the fact that so many others have been treated poorly, it certainly isnt my favourite place on earth. I know they are not doing as well as they want in VIP sales, and I, for one, Dont plan on spending the usual money up there anymore.....I refuse to pay a place that wont treat VIP like VIP!!)

I agree, I think this sums up the rest of what I would say on this thread. Especially the Doorman at Love, a perfect example to all doormen at clubs anywhere.

Wow, I just read this entire "Review/DJ Comparison/Pacha Rant" thread... Interesting stuff, dont know where to start...

Review:
Got to Pacha later than expected, so missed most of Dinaire's opening set. Was very good from I heard, though. Found a really good spot on the main floor just before ATB came on and stayed there for a while. Enjoyed his set, and the energy was off the hook. Roamed around for a while and found myslf back on the main floor for all of Dinaire's closing set, which was awesome!! Closed it out and left for breakfast.

DJs:
First off, let me say that it's really too bad about people's bad experiences with ATB. I, personally, have never encountered one with him. In fact, most shows I've been to he's stayed afterwards signing, greeting, and taking pics. Damn shame this isn't always the case and it's really disappointing. As far as this whole dj argument goes, I don't think it's even a competition at all. Considering the type of music he produces, what he plays live, and where his roots lie, I don't think of ATB as a true "trance" artist in the mold of Ferry, Armin, Tiesto, etc. If I had to compare them all, even though ATB is my all time fav, I'd have to say those others far outrank him in trance production and live performance. But imo it's apples and oranges. A large portion of ATB's catalog is more ambient stuff, never meant to be played on the dance floor. The dance stuff he does produce carries a lot of eurodance undertones and is usually significantly different sounding than popular trance tunes. As far as his live performances, they also are very different than most. He usually plays older stuff mixed in with a lot of his own productions. I previously stated that I enjoyed his set on Friday, because I knew what to expect. I knew that he wouldn't drop a bunch of the current trance bombs, and I was ok with that especially since Dinaire was sure to play those tracks. But, I digress, if they all must be compared as trance artists, I'd give a huge edge currently to Ferry, Markus, A&B, etc...... especially live.

Pacha:
The problems experienced at Pacha seem to be a theme at a lot of huge parties everywhere nowadays. I had no trouble finding a spot to dance, and no problems with the staff, but I can see how there would be several problem areas with the size of the crowd. I completely agree that there are certain djs that should not be booked at clubs the size of Pacha. In any case, management of such clubs really need to get a handle on things, not only for customer service issues, but especially for the sake of everyone's safety.

TOTALLY TRUE!!! ATB's style is really more ambient type of trance. Artists like Enigma have been a big influence in how he creates his style. That's kinda why when you listen to his music like Future Memories and Movin Melodies, most of the music he creates is more mellow and low key. There are some tracks that pop with the vocals that he incorporates, but its not too progressive and uplifting compared to music created by Ferry, Tiesto, Above & Beyond, etc. Its always easy to tell whether music is by ATB. Its very different and its his own style of trance.

As far as getting autographs or pics, I must confess that he actually does stay afterwards or does it during his sets. Back in DC, he did sign autographs to his fans and even shook hands near the end of his set. He doesn't really seem like a people person or maybe he just shys away from his fans, thats kinda why its not really easy to meet him.

I remember him telling everyone thank you several times and slapping hands with whoever could get their hand over the booth at the end.

In any case, management of such clubs really need to get a handle on things, not only for customer service issues, but especially for the sake of everyone's safety.

nice point about ATBs show- i still love his shows bc i love his music and he is the person who introduced me to trance...so Id probably have been right there with you on that one.

happy to hear you knew what to expect adn enjoyed it also happy to hear you can back him up as an artist who actually meets with his fans I know he does from time to time- Im just really curious as to WHERE and WHY and WHY NOT at MOST places? (Too tired is a cop out, imo, if you really appreciate your fans)

As far as Pacha and noting that all big shows are like this. Roseland Ballroom to name one- never EVER had a problem there. Why? Its big enough. The staff seem to like their jobs, the bouncers are certeous, the place is not over crowded. I MUST note that the amount of fucked up people is a big too crazy but thats another story.

I probably shouldnt compare webster hall as Ive not been to someone of ATBs standard- but I heard no complaints about Ferrys show there.

We DO need at least ONE MORE club thats big enough for people like ATB, Markus, ect.
