I think it's G-S-M Fed now. He has a knack of winning 'those' points like just, when he breaks and takes the set. if JM won that set, I'd have backed him to go on and win but I don't think it will happen now.

Del Potro has a lot of spunk and upside in him. I do like his future.

i am hoping for a competitive final here. This is what Soderling had on Federer in the semis, but Federer had just enough to squeak by Soderling. Let's see if Federer has that same luck against Del Potro.

in the words of dick enberg ....

JMDP is going to win this

Posted by stren on Sep-15-2009 00:19:

game over. Fantastic play from both

Posted by DimaShibby on Sep-15-2009 00:21:

kinda hate to see Federer losing, but it was bound to happen someday...

edit:

Del Potro won... oh well

Well lets hope he keeps his #1 title for over 2,200 days lol

Posted by noikeee on Sep-15-2009 00:30:

fuck yeah

Roger's girl looks pissed, he sure isn't getting any pussy soon

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Sep-15-2009 01:14:

congrats to JMDP. well deserved. fought for basically every point in the 4th and 5th set.

what a fantastic ending to another great tournament. juan martin del potro and kim clijsters are fantastic champions. tonight's match was so unreal, i couldn't believe the way juan martin played. after the way he dismantled nadal i didn't know if he had it in him to beat federer especially after that first set.

also fuck enberg for essentially dismissing del potro when he wanted to speak in spanish especially to a crowd in nyc where a lot of people know what he's saying. they let caroline speak english, danish and polish last night and she didn't even win.

Can someone explain to me why the fuck the match was not televised here?

I apparently missed a great final.

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Sep-15-2009 04:18:

i saw it. well just the 5th set on tv. watched the 3rd and 4th at work. it might be because of viacom.

the us open got their first fifth set final in a very very long time! JMDP was just too much at the end for federer. i'll be honest, i've done/seen a lot of rfed matches and have never seen anyone wack the ball back at federer as much as del potro did. basically roger was afforded very little time to set up the shots he wanted.

ygrene - i have the ball from the federer-djokovic match

that's kinda how murray has got under fed's skin too, he's very energetic and fed doesn't seem to know what to do sometimes when he isn't bossing the tempo.

I'll give del potro huge dues here, I really thought that mentally he'd fucked it up when fed went 2-1 up. I've seen many players get close to beating him, but then just falling at those points and crumbling afterwards, so congrats to JM.

So Justine Henin is back. Interesting.

yeah that was messed up. the women's final was on espn, while men's final was on CBS, thus had more restrictions i'm sure. eventually JMDP ended up speaking for a bit at least.
