I think your approach of at least two moderators is the right way to do it. Checks and balances are always important. Thanks again.

Exactly.

Sushi, I know this is appearing across all 4 forums, I'm just saying that production needs at least 2 mods of its own, and I'd say promo (from what I remember of it) needs a couple of dedicated mods too. DJ booth is well behaved, so I'm sure 2 mods could handle that and DJ promo.

Certainly not denying that mate I pop in to both from time to time, and they are bit of a mad-house All I meant was that 1 mod would still be better than none, even if 2+ mods would be ideal. It's all up to Swamper in the end.

Both still need pretty regular cleaning up, but yeah, I wouldn't say each of those forums would need 2 mods.

I don't think there's need for two moderators in Production forum, it's not that active as a forum and the folk are pretty well behaved anyway (and, unfortunately, being an idiot is not a bannable offense anyway). It just needs someone who keeps the spambots at bay.

I agree for the most part, although having a spare mod would be nice. The main thing is the spam bots, but other than that the forum is pretty decent. One thing I am looking forward to a a giant FAQ thread and commonly discussed topics thread so that we don't have keep revisiting old topics. The old hardware vs software debate hasn't really gone away...

I dunno - I reckon at times the forum gets very busy. I've been away for a while abroad without decent connection so only check every couple of days and the threads grow unbelieveably or get bounced down in hours.

I do think being an idiot is (it should be) a bannable offense. Everyone on this thread knows that only a few months ago, certain members were just spouting so much bullshit that useful threads became unbareable to trawl through for the decent info lost somewhere about 12 pages back.

On another note, I hope that if certain people do become mods, they do not stop posting as normal conrtibutors - one of the reasons they have been nominated is becuase of their contributions and their points of view. The forum will mis it.

And why the fuck aren't you nominated Mystery?

Posted by Zak McKracken on Oct-12-2009 09:17:

how much work is it really? im here everyday anyway so i have the possibility but im not going to read each and every thread around, i would need users to PM me with complaints etc. i know the production forum well too as ive been a regular since 2003 (with various alts though).

Posted by DjStephenWiley on Oct-12-2009 12:33:

If I end up doing this I can't wait to pin a software vs. hardware thread.

Oh my

Of course it would, I wasn't denying that. There are always times when a mod is out of reach.

I think someone said my name, but like I said I don't really see it happening (though I am available if need be).

Im not really seeing the need for a mod still.

Can't we just report spambots and some general mod just del the thread and ban the user id?

That's what we've been doing and you can see how well it's worked out.

It has been shown time and time again since the creation of man that humans can not control themselves. We need mods and we need them fast.. before the forum gives itself a virus and commits suicide

Mods cannot affect quality of discussion, only housekeep. I think the forums been going along fine, some autospam butlots of regular posts and threads. True some people grate each other but you cannot ban / lock posts because you do not agree with the information

Unless you lurk, you're not around every day. The nature of spam and clown wars is transient; some days it's nonexistent, other days it's out of control, and if you only peek in once a week then you may not be aware of the severity.

No offense, I'm not implying that your post count is a measure of your worth or even of the validity of your opinion, but your dismissal of spam alone is enough to tell me that you haven't seen how much there is on some days and how long it sometimes takes to get it removed.

And mods can affect the quality of discussions in a big-picture sense, they just have to act carefully and maintain a balance somewhere between complete anarchy and heavy censorship. In other words, trust members to solve their own problems but recognize when they've proven themselves incapable of doing that. Anyone who thinks it's impossible to do (or easy to do, for that matter) probably shouldn't be moderating.

+1 on that Logic
...indeed some better servers would be a worthwile investment to make the TA experience enjoyable to far more people.

Must be a lurker then lol I never realised cos I visit the site daily since about 2001, I think ill post more / start a few flame wars

Maybe its just me but when ppl write something thats obviously wrong then a simple correction should be enough. It normally everyone piling in that derails threads. But point taken about careful modding that can help direct and improve the forum. I've changed my view now to being for high quality moderation lol.

Anyone been PM'd about this?

Posted by Swamper on Oct-19-2009 01:52:

...the TA Top 250 poll has been delaying me with all of this.

I spoke to one person yesterday and they agreed to mod the Production section -- I'll take care of the other areas this week.

Stay tuned folks
