whatever, he has one date in na but it doesn't mean anything, this was a bday present to sneak, you would never see him play here otherwise and i hope it stays that way.

the way you describe the styles makes me fuckin cringe for some reason, do you really have to call it that?

but i did expect decent minimal and decent deep influenced tech (yes there is expectation based on brand, you go to see a name dj precisely because there is expectations, not becasue there is a 30% chance he could be good), which i figured would sound decent enough to make me dance on an "amazing soundsystem" advertised by the promoters. Instead we had to listen to 80s music and weirdo stripped down break beat on a week distorted sound while ricardo was getting high on stage....

bla bla bla who gives a shit, as previously mentioned you do not understand a dj of his caliber (who is like hawtin either hit or miss) and you shouldn't go to this type of party expecting him to play anything, he plays "whatever" that is his style and because you've never see him you don't get it, if next time you go without expecting anything maybe at the end of the day you may have some fun.

i say what makes sense, many of the sub genres within broader genres do not have broadly used specific names attached to them ...

this is cracking me up, LOL. - "He is the greatest dj in the world. He plays "whatever" but i love it because he is the greatest dj in the world, he is so great he is just too good for toronto where people have poor taste. Clearly you have no taste if you dont like my idol"

^ this is appoximately how you sound... grow up man!

After reading 7 pages of the funnies, i can honestly say im glad i left the line after 20mins only to go home and do school work @ 230 am.

sure i paid $10 for parking but i cut my losses and im glad i didnt spend any more than i needed to. i made a bad decision to go out this night but i made up for it by going home early and not dealing with any more bullshit. this will show me not go to out when i have work to do.

its like dodging a bullet only to be grazed with a flesh wound.

whew!

when i did i say that hes the greatest in the world? what does that even mean lol
by whatever i mean you cannot classify him as one style as musically he's very versatile depending on where he's playing.

ps. you're telling me to grow up and you're the one crying that he didn't play dubby minimal underground pop tech

^ i wasnt crying was just pissed about the epic fail this party and dj were (for me) and just expressed my opinion. Lets be realistic both mine and your opinions (and everyone else's) have some sorts of biases and are subjective and the reality is likely neither and lies somewhere in between. If i didn't make it clear sorry, I do not portray my opinion as eternal truth, it is merely an opinion. At least it is honest (thus has at least some even if remote degree of objectivity) as im not friends with the promoters or anyhow involved with the event.

ell-oh-fucking-ell...

"Ricardo's so avant garde, someone like you could never comprehend what he's trying to do up there in the DJ booth. You barely deserve to be hearing the awesomeness that eminates from his astonishing hit or miss mind. Lower your expectations of this amazing individual so you can truly appreciate what it is that he does!"

This, and "you don't deserve my maturity" are frontrunners for top delusional whatinthemotherfuck?! posts in this thread.

I wasn't there - thankfully I decided to support our Tdot locals at The Drink on Friday night.

What I can say is that the feedback I've heard on the Maison party from my friends who did go was consistent: that it was the worst night they'd ever spent in a club.

Glad I didn't go.

i'm not trying to make this event look like what it was not, being friends with promoters or not i have waited in line as long as everyone else + had to use a reduced ticket to get in at 2:45am. I did not like the choice of venue to begin with but that was out of my control so i made the best out of it. We simply do not have a venue (outside of guvernment) in this city to cater to a dj like rv, same with sven vath, you cannot cram 1000-1500 people into fw, unfortunately.
So putting all that aside I was solely basing my opinion on the music that night, i personally found it decent especially the last 1h of the set but like i've mentioned before it was still the worst i've seen from him and he's capable of much better.
I understand your bitterness because of your expectations "of a best techno dj" plus the combination of various factors from the night which contributed to the failure but i wouldn't necessarily blame the dj or his shit music for that. I say when you're traveling somewhere and he's playing give him another chance and see how he plays in a different environment.

Also - what club photographers were there?

Posted by Cuzo on Nov-08-2010 16:03:

I haven't wrote a review in a decade or something but hear I go.

I ended up cabbing from work to Play de Record bc Eugene said he had 5 tickets left and they were selling fast, and a ticket I figured guaranteed my way in. I never thought it would let me in 2am after freezing my ass.

I got there maybe a quarter to 12, to see three lines that the even bouncers did not know what line is what, no joke....I went with a friend who got in the will call line in 5 mins.

I waited outdoors with the France frenchies (they weren't from Montreal) and ready to riot as it was in the nature to be hostile for what they went through. The cold was super shitty, and I don't think I waited outdoors since the glory rave days....thank God for Swamper around me, he was good shit. I ended up grabbing last call drinks to warm up at Ame (Charles Khabouth and Kubino brothers lounge/sushi bar?)with Gera, Swamper, Anita, Karlo's gf Natalie, and some other chick which was good fun fast drunk.

Went back right after 2, waited 15 mins and go in finally....only face a major coatcheck fail. Are you kidding me Maison management.....2 ppl working coatcheck??????????????????????????

Anyway waited over half an hour or more to see them stop taking coats.
I was seeing red and had the white flag starting to raise as I worked my day job, worked out, worked at guv for a couple hours, got ready from waking up at 7am.

I was pretty angry but I wasn't fully hating Ricardo's set, I got there when he did his 80s segment and I thought it was entertaining, and will do my best to see Ricardo at another venue in the world one day. I left after an hour bc I was so gassed out, my legs were failing out.

My demands are this, an explanation and an apology.

I paid 32 bucks to fully get ripped off.
My guess is the lack of communication between all promoters of how many tickets and will calls sold, and with front door staff.....if you sell out the place....DON'T FUCKING LET PPL IN PAYING AT THE DOOR!

So obv this was a major shitting of the bed of all party organizers...so dude, you took our money, did not get good value at all for what I spent. What do you guys got to say now?

my chips are put in "say nothing" category.

You're all super fucked up!

Anyone who goes to see a DJ who acts & plays the way he does is clearly as cracked out as he is! ESPECIALLY if you're willing to continually go see him.

Fuck, I'm so glad I don't know any of you whackedout sketchbags!

LOL

MY REVIEW (short as normal):

I loved Fries & Bridges's set! The sound was nice, but way to low for the amount of people in the club.

The club has major potential for up coming events. I know there are many reasons the sound wasn't up to its full potential. Just tell the club owner to hire a proper sound engineer to set it up correctly.

In closing, I have no reason to ever see Richardo again. What a lame "only NA appearance this year".

The End

I'm trying to decide who was more of a space cadet, Ricardo or the coat check girls.

Sarah, my night does not compare to yours.

Hope Chloe gets better soon.

In reality, it was really only one chick. The latina looking chick was running the whole show and was completely overwhelmed while the little asian chick just stood there and held the tickets for her, not knowing how to do anything herself. Pathetic. I really am baffled as to what possessed people to still tip them when coat check was free, especially dropping $20's.

Who dropped a 20? Damn...and thankfully I didn't have coat check issues other than waiting in line a crazy amount of time but I just chatted up a Montrealer and kept busy that way.
