I love lights, and watching people who can use them exceptionally well, and I've never done E. To me it's just pretty, like watching the lighting effects put off by the club/stage.

But I can see why they're doing it. I just hope that awesome new tent from Nocturnal is going to be there, and used for the TRANCE DJs this time.

Pacifiers were already banned at Nocturnal, iirc.

All of those are already banned...

the only one I will always disagree with is backpacks... I enjoy having a backpack on me when I'm going to any kind of festival. I don't have to carry my water in my hand, or my camera, keys, wallet, and cigarettes in my pockets.

i feel bad for the 'good' glovers cause they can entertain even the soberest person...

lol at people thinking their party's being taken away from them because they can't get lightshows anymore.

Dear Loyal Insomniac Fans,

We have spent considerable time and efforts in Insomniac meetings discussing the pros and cons of attendees giving LED light shows at Insomniac events. Although there are many who use these lights as an art form, the image that it creates when groups of music fans are sitting or lying on the floor gazing at the designs reflects poorly and sends a false message of what the electronic dance music scene is about. This image jeopardizes our ability to produce events, which we love and plan on doing for decades to come. In addition, local fire marshals have voiced their concerns about attendees sitting on the dance floor and will no longer tolerate the fire hazard that it creates.

We've made many efforts to keep this to a minimum by introducing the Get Up and Dance Crew. These teams were organized to roam around the festivals to encourage people to not lay or sit in designated dance areas or emergency walkways. Unfortunately, this wasn't as sufficient as needed.

In conclusion, LED lights and light gloves will no longer be allowed into Insomniac events until further notice.

Insomniac always strives to create a fun, music filled environment with state-of-the-art production and large-scale art installations that incorporate both artistic lighting and pyrotechnics. Our intentions are to keep the dance music scene healthy and respectable so we can continue to produce unique and memorable experiences for all of our fans to enjoy. For the time being, we ask that you please leave the light shows to us and contribute to the longevity of our beautiful scene.

Sincerely,

Insomniac

after that girl died at edc, they gotta clean up the festivals. theres already a lot of media attention and the city tried to ban them from using downtown.

its a shame cos I like the led light shows but I get why they gotta do it.

Posted by DaveT on Jan-26-2011 15:47:

That statement only mentions LED and lightgloves. So are glowsticks still allowed?

Copied from the email I got today from Insomniac.

"Stay tuned in!
Website launch and initial Lineup announcement in the next few weeks!"

WTF!

e-puddles will still exist regardless if lights are banned.

Thousands of people will sneak lights in (same way ecstasy and weed are snuck in). I wonder how strongly the ban will be enforced during the middle of the festival.

I guess Insomniac figures that a lot of lights will not be brought in by checking for them at the entrance.

(Almost) Anything can be snuck in, just gotta slip the scum who check you a $10 bill.

They were making everyone take off their shoes at Nocturnal. And you had to actually open up your wallet and show them what was inside.

way to turn something positive for the scene into negativity....I'm glad most of the matured crowd on TA is supporting this new change.

Lineup coming soon?

I definitely support this. Good call Insomniac. LA events will look so much more legit and people will actually pay attention to the music rather than sitting on the floor and staring at lights.

Yes it's an art form but we're at a music festival, not an art show. If the art severely detracts from the feel of the crowd, I don't have a problem with banning it.

Now how 'bout that lineup?!

Hehe... keep telling yourself this.

If lights are not available, hand massages will become more abundant.

Also, I'm sure there are apps on cell phones that are quite colorful.

Then you have no chance of getting your lights in.

So rumor is the line up coming out this week or (early next), some headliners just got locked in this week...
