Here's my ambient mix. I didn't feel like doing anything too fancy this time, as I have another mix in the pipeline that's gonna take some proper chances and try something completely new. This will simply be a straight forward mix of some great summery tunes that I felt like mixing due to the utterly grey and dull weather outside.

Sand Leaper - A Slight Breeze 050211

Schizophrenia - Schizophrenia
The Irresistible Force - Lotus Position
Gel-Sol - As Far As Eye Can See
Yoshinori Sunahara - The Good Timing Of The World Of Love Song
Apiento & Co. - Under Open Skies
Aosuke - At The Shore
Wang Fan - Xuanzhuan De Tuoluonidi
Rob Theakston - I Am Waiting For You To Stop Being Mad At Me (Christopher Bissonnette Remix)
Gustavo Lamas - Embrollo
Swimmingpool - Left Version
Kayot - One Night On Cuba
Savath+Savalas - Binoculars
Frivolous - The Emoticon Don (Movimento Primo)
Doctor Rockit - Caf De Flore
Doves - Firesuite

i'll check the ambient mix out too, but no way am i listening to some of the whack genres you guys picked this time

Posted by Rodri Santos on Feb-06-2011 21:00:

Calm down Zip i've listened the mix but not in all it's duration, i am very very busy but i hope i can listen to it tomorrow in the morning in it's full duration and write a judgement i see you made your way out of the "real" Hardstyle, i expected that and i like it

About the rest of the mixes i'll try to listen to all of them in the following weeks, i've some flights that need music and my dubstep mix is in progress i am looking for diverse dubstep subgenres and i think it will be ear candy at least.

One thing i've noticed is that i haven't come across a single good dubstep vocal track yet, vocals don't fit on this genre it seems... i'd like to include 1 or 2 vocals on this but haven't found anything worthy yet.

Yeah, it's an absolute bomb. I just wish the breakbeat bit at the end were longer.

he turned a piece of dogshit into an awesome tune. The original is horrid, I heard it on the radio in the barbers once & was like 'woah, this is baaaaaaad' And obviously, being a kid of the early 90s, the 'ravey' influence is welcome.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Feb-06-2011 21:51:

not bad but this is completely different to what i'm using right now, this is much softer this looks more like breaks.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Feb-07-2011 21:19:

OK after listening to the mix completely here is my feedback:

I quite like the intro track, i think that commercial stuff on Hardstyle is easy to listen in this case, hardstyle purists would say Headhunterz is shit but his tracks are more than a pounding distorted kick.

The mixing on this is quite good, phrasing could be a bit better but the mix it's pretty flawless so good score here.

Around the middle of the mix it starts to become more "Hard Trancey" , i can't blame you for this, still i can consider this hardstyle and is melodic and full on supersaws which makes it look kinda old, there are some metallic sweeps i hate but this is part of the style.

Last song is clearly full on :P mixed with some hardcore elements but foll on still, it reminds me a bit to the Warp Brothers , a good way to take the mix to your territory without completely.

Overall i liked it despite it's now clear to me that i don't like this anymore, but wasn't a pain listening to this.

Thank you, Rodri Santos. I'm not too disappointed with drawing Hardstyle, I actually had fun with it. I appreciate the listen.

Nice mix. Took me a few listens as I had it on while very tired and dozed off. Not typical ambient sounds either. Nice work.

Posted by montana on Feb-08-2011 19:24:

teez, good stuff. given that this is a triphop & other associated forms of it's greatest hits mix, it's really nice. mixing was fairly good and tunes was excellent.

ian, hmm, you and i talked a lot about your mix and i told you that all you really had to do was at least do an honest effort and you succeeded with that. mixwise, well, i thought it started really nice, the first three tunes flowed together quite nice but then it just became awkward at times. i thought it was a bit to short aswell, but you actually turned in a mix and i actually think you would so nice one.

Posted by Ian on Feb-09-2011 09:07:

thanks tony. I tried, found some new stuff I liked, but it's definitely not something i'm going to be regularly trying to do, especially live, I think even Chrissi would hear the awkwardness in the mixing

Posted by montana on Feb-09-2011 14:42:

zipntf, ye, nice effort, mixing was good, tunes were not all good. there was one really cheesy one, the one with the piano in the break, it's all prefererence but i'm more partial to the prototype hardstyle stuff, the stuff with an industrial influence and the really dark subdued techno influenced material. but i was fistpumping to some of those tunes you played, in my chair, being really stupid. ye, good effort.

jan, we already spoke about your mix it's one of those really nice melodic ambient mixes. 'cafe del flore' and 'lotus position' were a really nice touch

Posted by ziptnf on Feb-09-2011 16:03:

Ah, too bad, I liked the one with the piano. Sometimes a little cheddar cheese is quite tasty to me

Any recommendations as to what you would have played? Those comments always intrigue me, I would like to hear some of your interpretations. Thanks for listening, Tony.

Have nearly all the tracks I'm gonna be using, now just to order them... unfortunately my computer has been acting up recently :P

i would have probably played material from straighton black and similar tracks and for the really boshy section, then something like the klasic & sanders remix of 'wildstyle generation'

I specifically avoided using anything from Straight On Black, because What a Rush was the only track I liked and it has already been used before in this challenge. That remix of Wildstyle Generation is pretty damn cool, though. Not sure how well it would have fit in mine, but I'd like to hear yours!

It was a cool little set, with interesting tracks. It's clear you had trouble mixing it, but I don't blame you at all, I doubt these tracks were easy to put together or blend in any way, shape, or form. I'm sure I would have had similar problems if I had drawn this genre. It was nice, albeit short. Good effort, though, Ian.

Very nice and summery indeed, lots of guitars, glitch, pads, rainstorms, etc. The whole nine yards. My favorite track was definitely 18m-21m, whatever that one was. Really nice set, good work Jan.

Looking forward to more mixes, pump them out, people!

Posted by mr2gti on Feb-09-2011 20:15:

I have just had a 2 hour "Test run" to get used to "Vocal House"...

...Looks like it's going to turn out "OK" lol

Thilo and Evanti have done loads of tracks in a similar style, though. Their new label Analogue Is Dead is dedicated to it, among other things. Also, there are plenty of rougher tracks about that go well with that type of hardstyle, like so:

Not much for me to say about your mix that Tony hasn't already said. Well executed, but I just didn't like the tunes much.

Gracias, appreciate that.

I see. Yeah, I didn't spend a whole lot of time digging, but I'm pretty happy with what I put together. Unfortunately, I can't say those tracks you posted did anything for me. I don't listen to hardstyle, so tracks that I do like are few and far between.

Sorry bout that. Thanks for the listen anyways.
