RE After: I looked to see what the venue they were previously at (Club Utopia) has scheduled. They are now the new gay club Krave. They have nothing listed so far, but doesn't mean they couldn't host an event. In Miami, several of the gay clubs had parties during MMW in March; Teneglia would always play at Score every year.

I too am trying to stay optimistic about possible Techno parties.

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been answered in the thread but it's a bit too ling to trail through right now....

Does anyone know if Carl Cox is going to playing anywhere (like Drais in 2012 or Lavo last year) on Saturday night?

I know he's playing LIGHT on Thursday but if that's all he's got going on outside of EDC itself, it seems like one of the dumbest moves in a long time as hardly anyone is going to be there before Friday

Not true, It will be packed I am sure. He has a residency with the Light so you won't find him at another club. So Thursday there and Friday and Saturday at the speedway are your 3 chances to catch him.

Damn if that's true, that such a fucking mistake of his booking team;

Even just looking at the hotel and flight rates for Thursday - Friday through Sunday through the roof, Thursday can't give them away.

I'm holding out hope as his Drais and Lavo dates in previous years were only announced a few days before. Let's hope he tacks something on.

It's pretty common practice for the casinos to jack rates up for the weekend nights. Also its pretty common for people to fly in on Tuesday-Wednesday and stay in Vegas for the week of EDC. I'm sure the club will be packed if not sold out and I'm sure his residency deal was fairly lucrative (only tech DJ who can boost a LV and Ibiza residency I think?) I guarantee this booking will have a bigger turn out than the tiny Lavo did on previous years during nights of EDC.


Don't really see it as a mistake, unfortunate you can't make it though.

Not really about "jacking rates up" for weekends, that's part of any hotel anywhere - it's about occupancy and that's why I think it's a mistake; I'm staying at the Palazzo and they told me they're sold out Fri through Monday. Tues through Thurs I can take my pick of rooms. They don't expect to be full unless they discount.

Same deal with Wynn/Encore. I was speaking the concierge and as per every year since EDC started in Vegas, they run at about 50 occupancy that week until Friday when it jumps to 80% then oversold on Sat/Sun.

Everyone that has a job aint gonna be there until Friday. School being out already deosn't really matter as everything apart from speedway is 21+.

It probably will be busy at light as he's a legend and there's really nothing else of that caliber on Thursday.

Lavo was Rammed start to finish. I don't even like Lavo but they pulled off a great night with Cox last year.

He's played a Sat after hours everytime he's played EDC so far so it's dumb they got him locked down on a Thursday night just because of a residency. Fuck, why doesn't light do a Sat night as well if they don't want him going elsewhere.

My point is Lavo is tiny and he's moved on to bigger and better. No wonder he ram packed that little place, how many does it even hold?

And I have no doubt he could pack the Light both Thursday and Saturday nights but not in the cards this year its seems.

Armin is the same night and already almost sold out of presales so that already discredits your theory about not enough people being in town that night.

Not sure why you are so worried about it. Light does great each Wed on normal weeks. They were very happy with the turnout for his Memorial Day set as well. Even if just 10% of the people going to EDC are in town on thursday, that's 15,000 people looking to go out hence the big clubs will be packed that night.

Last year the parties Wends/Thurs were RAMMED!! I'm not just talking about the cheesy clubs, I'm taking like LAVO, Artisan and Drais? had more underground acts and had no dance floor room.

Shit even the Monday after EDC everything was decently packed.

XS on Monday night last year was stupid packed past that outside bar.

So like. is there EVER any good music in vegas? I dont even care if it's off strip. My burner friends in vegas can't even help me out here. It seems like everything is just garbage.

Im going to be in vegas this weekend (thursday afternoon until monday morning) and like. there's nothing. it's all trash.

I want non-top 40 (trance/electro) and not dubstep. if it was like UK dubstep that would be cool but they dont even play UK dubstep in SF. i'd be happy with normal (non top-40) house or techno, not even a big name guy just a normal DJ but they don't even seem to have that anywhere.

am i up shit creek? anyone know of anything this weekend?

well Deep Dish did just play last weekend... and After re-launches in 2 weeks. though i'd say getting annoyed at the the lack of good music in Vegas is like getting mad McDonald's doesn't have filet mignon on the menu

Vegas music acts just a couple years ago were pretty stellar, and have been a straight downhill since what... 12-18 months ago?

riiiiiiiiight, because Armin and Cox are the same demographic

Armin nights are amateur hour. He could go to any city in the on a Monday night and probably sell out 15k tickets, let alone Vegas.

Case in point: Cox last year in LA at the exchange. ON his forums tons of people were begging him to come to LA, and he just ended up tacking on the exchange the weekend after EDC.

Mistake and everyone including him knew it. The crowd was full of randoms as the real EDM fans were all spent following EDC, and by 2am the crowd was thinning out and he was trying his hardest to whip them up (and if he can't no one can) but by 3pm it just fizzled out. I've never seen that at a cox event in 20 years.

Lol, not worried about it at all, just think it's dumb booking like that when he's one of the biggest stars right now and there's nothing outside of EDC on the weekend with him (yet?).

That's why I'm banging on about Cox. No cheese, no crap big room house pop remixes, just dirty deep house, tech and techno for 8+hours. The best part about it was all the muppets were at EDC speedway so the smaller clubs let the music lovers get down.

I guess i'm confused. you are annoyed he's booked for thursday instead of the weekend? if its full who cares if its thursday or saturday? or are you just not there thursday so bummed you'll miss it and that's why its a bad booking? since everyone going to that party is basically going to EDC i'm sure they will be there late as there is nothing to get up early for friday.

Lights has Axwell and Ingrosso that Sat night which I think you'd agree in Vegas you put on Sat over Carl... if i end up out there i'll prob skip EDC on Sat night and go to Luciano anyway.

also you'd see many more Cox fans %-wise there thursday night than Fri-Sun... as Fri-Sun the people that know of him more likely will be at EDC. the weekend crowd will have a much larger % of people that just want to go clubbing and don't know of him, versus thursday people since those going that night are only going as they know him (they club isn't open on thursday normally).

That was Cox at Light over MDW.

Surprising he can pack that club considering 95% of the music there is Top40/Pop EDM. So I would imagine the EDC week Thurs night should be slammed.

I was told their new location the other night by the guy that runs it.... should work well for them IMO. if memory serves they re-open in 2 weekends.

While I'm glad they're staying on the strip, it kinda sucks that they're at the last casino on the south side. And to be honest, I've never heard of this venue. I'm wondering what's the capacity.

its a small venue. been in it years ago. good things is that its around the corner from Light so they already have a built in crowd to some degree. plan is to stay open until 8am.
