you can make good use of the second acapella, if you EQ it a bit (a lot) stop complaining people

Posted by Robert on Dec-13-2002 12:01:

yeah... ffs.. other ppl can manage.. why can't you?

oh right
hope we finish in the top10 then
and yea we would love for it to be passed on.

"Managing" isn't the point, I can use the acapella fine, but it seems that I am the only one concerned with the actual quality of the track.

To add the vocals in the state they are currently would take away from the track.

Posted by xfer on Dec-14-2002 02:52:

but with all the percussion, drums, & synths.. you won't hear anything

Posted by 8Wonders on Dec-14-2002 07:07:

Sure you will and I can. Listen to the Above & Beyond mix, the vocals are crystal clear, very smooth, yet the track is very busy as far as percussion, synths, and effects go.

Posted by J.L. on Dec-14-2002 07:29:

i think if you were real good... you wouldn't need a really high quality acapella to work with...
sure it sounds better... but a great track with poor vocals is better than a poor track with great vocals...

Posted by mantisnl on Dec-14-2002 09:11:

well.. there are a couple of ppl who are using the 1st (lo-fi) vocal (including me).. so u`ll hear wether or not u can manage 2 get a nice remix with an lo-fi vocal

Posted by 8Wonders on Dec-14-2002 20:30:

I don't think greatness has anything to do with it, you can't make gold out of shit, if you know what I mean. I've tried cleaning it up using various restoration plugins and utilities and the result is that it sounds just as bad as the first becuase of all the frequencies you end up cutting off.

I am sure that you can do something with the vocals if you totally distort them, cut them up or whatever, but I doubt any of you would settle for the lofi version if you had access to something better.

All I am trying to do is to see if that's possible, if not then obviously I'll settle for what's available.

Robert, any word from the man himself?

Posted by Az on Dec-16-2002 12:56:

I'll give it a go

Posted by El~ZaPo on Dec-16-2002 15:47:

I'm using the lofi sample and it seems to be fine in the song, you don't really notice it when there are other sounds along with it.

Posted by eieregooie on Dec-17-2002 02:50:

Come on guys... stop complaining about that sample... It's the best we have so we'll have to work with it... Unless ofcourse someone has (or can make) a better sample... But I don't think that's gonna happen...

So shut up and start mixing

Well, just one week left until the deadline. I would like to know what areas these remixes are going to be judged on. ie: points taken away if its too long?, points given for mastering quality?, points given for originality?, etc.

they won't be judged, unless you can find some judges. we're gonna have a poll where people vote..
