I've asked 10ppl about this and they all said Yes.

Keep in mind you can't be using our phones with that network, if that was the case ... OMG x 10000 All 3 would be doomed.

Do you ever pay attention to what i say or post?

"36 month renewal and any handset at renewal term price"

Why wouldn't there be one? Whats the point of offering this to someone if they can bail anytime soon?

(But Wind doesn't have contracts ... blah blah blah, Only 2 Carriers use 1700 band, TMobile and Wind ... no where else)

Terrible coverage, cant wait to hear the bitching from people when they get their first bill and have $200 in roaming fees.

Why is WIND showing iPhone support when they're 1700 band?

That iPhone is a 1st gen that uses "GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900"

So I can only get Wind if I live in Toronto or Calgary? Those are the only "Home Zones" Otherwise I have no minutes to actually talk, and have to pay extra???
All the unlimited minutes are FROM call "home call zones"
What a load of shit.

Their FAQ states:
"Question
I do not live in a WIND HOME Zone, can I still be a WIND Customer?
Answer
Yes you can. "

Ok but then I am just paying for every minute Roaming?
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

Also, currently with the Big 3, if lets say I am in another town out of my local area, and place calls locally in that town it is LOCAL not Roaming. With WIND it would be roaming.

I hope their coverage expands quickly because it sucks big ass donkey balls right now.

sounds like they can't wait lol..

"Lacavera said the company, which will focus on high-end smartphones, will launch with the BlackBerry, but added he is in discussions to begin carrying Apple Inc.'s iPhone at a later date. He said the company will have a wide range of smartphones, from companies such as HTC Corp and the Chinese cell-maker ZTE Mobile. The entrepreneur added that an announcement on pricing plans and definite launch dates should occur in the next week."

From what I understand you can still use your plan outside of the home zones, but you'll be paying roaming charges.

As for whether you'd be paying roaming charges if you were say calling from Calgary, that I'm unsure. I'm assuming it would be local since you're in a "HOME" zone. They'll be setting up HOME zones in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Ottawa starting early next year. Best thing is to just call them/email and ask. Takes a few minutes and you have nothing to lose.

quote:

Many of you are asking what's the difference between a WIND HOME Zone versus a WIND AWAY Zone?

At WIND, when you are in HOME Zone many services are available to you for free.

When you are in a WIND AWAY Zone, some services will cost a bit more:

* Calls to anywhere in Canada or the U.S. (all destinations): 25 cents/minute
* Any calls to you: 25 cents/minute
* Any text messages you receive (from anywhere in the world): free of charge
* To use the Internet on your phone: 10 cents/25 kB

To make sure you dont accidently rack up a huge bill, we have capped your maximum call length to 120 minutes when you are in an AWAY Zone we just want you to be sure you know youre incurring those extra charges. Also, your WIND phone will clearly tell you where you are. When you are in a HOME Zone, your phone will say HOME, when you are in an AWAY Zone, your phone will say AWAY.

Re: my screenshot, appearntly it was stock image that was usedr for layout of the site, they took it off now.

Who knows what apple will do, but making a 1700 / 2100 unit make not be enuff. When they made that China Unicom iPhone, it didn't sell that well. Wifi stripped and contract only in the land of pay as you go is not gonna sell.

I would like to, but my plan is cheap already and have 2 discounts for another 4 years. The discount was extended pass my contract agreement due to some unpleasentness I claimed awhile ago.

Anyone who doesn't have any discounts, your time is now or very near future. Becareful on how you talk to them, my friend played the bluff game and they were ready to cancell with all the ECF + DECF.

very true. Rogers is known to call bluffs and try it.. But fido was very patient and wanted to at least help. I got 3 months unlimited calling, 10 off my data plan and 2 off my incoming calls.

You have to play the lost puppy persona and they'll like you more

Competition is soooo good!!!!

they aren't selling SIM cards at the moment but I suspect they will starting next year when the Nexus One is released, assuming it'll operate on AWS 1700 Mhz

no chance it will be HSDPA tri-band like the Bold 9700? i.e. 850 / 1700 / 2100 ?

It is 850/1700/2100

Wind needs 1700/2100 to work, 1700 alone won't work.

EDIT: Someone has already placed a Wind Sim into 1st gen iPhone, roaming on Roger's Edge network.

$0.25/min

DAVE Wireless To Launch In Early 2010

With the recent launch of WIND Mobile in Toronto and Calgary, Canada has received another wireless carrier among the dominating big three. While it is too early to see if WIND will change the Canadian wireless landscape, there is another wireless carrier, mostly not talked about, making its way to Canada.

DAVE Wireless, one of the other new entrants into the Canadian wireless industry, has been quietly prepping their HSPA network for an early-2010 launch. The company has been gathering millions of dollars in financial investments and as Dave Dobbin, the company president, says We are on track to bring competition to Canadian wireless consumers in early 2010 with our state-of-the-art Ericsson 3G network.

In 2010, DAVE Wireless will be launching in five cities: Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa. Once they launch, this will bring a fifth major carrier to Canada to compete among the big three (Rogers, Telus, Bell) and the newest member, WIND Mobile.

At this time, not much as been revealed in terms of price plans and devices, so we can only hope for great plans and an iPhone!

why wouldn't it operate on 1700 alone if say the future phone supports it?
