Definately a final i won't remember. Nothing special, Italy controlled play in the first and France in the 2nd. Very tight hard fought game with some beautiful play every now and then. I'll wait to pass judgement on Zidane til i hear what he has to say, needless to say i still think it was an idiotic move on his part no matter what may have been said to provoke him. You don't let your team down like that. Nonetheless Zizou will still be remembered as one of the greatest players to play the game.

I can't believe Zidane did that. The most deserved, but unfortunate, red card I've ever seen and it broke my heart because he's been my favourite non English player for a decade. Sure, he might have handled it better but he is human after all. There are rumours that he was that Mezzeratti uttered a racial comment. Something about him being an arab terrorist or something since I believe he is Muslim and his parents were from Algeria, former French colony. And he was being fouled (bear hugs are fouls). But still not an excuse.

But you know, typical Italians. They talk the biggest shit but run away or hit the deck when it comes time to fight. I"m quite positive that if Zidane and Henry had still been on the field for the PKs, France would have won.

I hope Zidane isn't lambasted in France. Without him, they never would have won a WC, Euro or had the chance to win it this year.

oh btw... even tho I think Zidane made a stupid rash decision, I think if he's gonna headbutt someone and get kicked out, he should have at least hit the guy in the face.

that way there is more of a chance that Materazzi would be put out of commission (with a possible broken nose) evening out Zidane's red-card out lol.

I can't imagine what I'd feel like if I were a Frenchman right now. To have a national hero and saviour like Zidane do that is pretty remarkable. But he did lead them to two international titles so once the anger has subsided, everyone will remember his glory days.

according to FIFA's site, the general consensus is that the French aren't the least bit concern or upset with Zidane's actions and still have the utmost respect for him

In my experience of French people (I'm marrying one), I think that of all the countries in the world, the one that is the most perfectly suited to handle an action like Zidane's is France.

In my year of living and working there, I found French people to be very rational and Cartesian. Things either make logical sense or they don't and if they don't, French people don't waste any time on it.

The French coach said to remember Zidane for all his achievements for France, and not for this one second. Very logical.

And regardless of what Materazzi said to him, the reaction does not equal the action, therefore I can picture broken French hearts, but at the same time turning away from the TV in disgust and moving on with their lives.

Lucky for Zidane, he doesn't play for Columbia:
