My 2 cents:

Being in the US, I'm somewhat limited on the availability of singles and sampling many remixes at one time. I usually fall in love with a song heard first in a liveset and search for the singles.

Usually, the first version I hear of a song is the one I like the best.

EX. many of Tiesto's remixes are my favorite mixes of a single, because that is the first version I hear.

I heard a different version of Southern Sun in Bed, Bath, & Beyond (of all places!!!) and thought it really stunk, because the tiesto remix is the only version I had previously heard, and really care to hear.

After all that, the sweeping strings mix of As the Rush Comes is my favorite, however the difference between the 2 is small. If I had heard the Armin remix first, it's likely that version would be the better of the two IMO.
