yeah.. not sure why they are selling him cos now we have barely any midfielers left especially if diouf goes to malaga and with smicer out for the year. just left with kewell gerrard diou biscan hamann(who i think will start now).. is that it? he must have someone lined up i think..

Posted by PacMan on Aug-08-2004 19:12:

we need a right winger and badly

Posted by Xavier on Aug-08-2004 23:10:

oh oh chances of victory at OT every season thrown out the window.

Right winger has to come asap! Season starts this week!

Benitez should at least wait after the Graz CL qualifier match.

Posted by evil_bastard on Aug-09-2004 00:40:

Benitez probably has something lined up because your midfield looks as thin as our defence!

Sky Sports claim that he is trying to swap Diouf for a Malaga defender, and that Blackburn are after Finnan. I know he likes a solid defence but surely the midfield should be your priority, he's already signed Josemi who can play in the centre or on the right.

no deal with tottenham about murphy, they couldnt guarantee first team football, so danny boy rejected the deal.

think its very decent off him, that hed rather stay at liverpool and not get first team football here... :P

SOCIEDAD REVEAL REDS ALONSO BID
Real Sociedad have confirmed that they have received a formal approach from Liverpool for Xabi Alonso and that they are willing to sell the Spain international midfielder.

The Basque club announced they had received a bid - thought to be 16 million euros (10.7million) - in a statement issued to journalists after training on Tuesday.

Liverpool representatives have been in San Sebastian where they met Real Sociedad executives, read the statement.

In the meeting the English representatives showed their interest in signing the player and at the same time the Spanish club expressed an interest in selling the player.

Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez and members of his technical staff watched Alonso in a 2-2 pre-season draw between Real Sociedad and Everton.

Sociedad are thought to need to raise cash following the arrival of Mikel Arteta from Rangers during the summer and the sale of Alonso will help fill the coffers at the Anoeta Stadium.

Alonso, 22, was born in San Sebastian and moving to Liverpool would be better received by Sociedad fans than a move to Real Madrid.

The central midfielder made his debut for Spain in the 4-0 win against Ecuador last year and was a member of Inaki Saezs squad at this summers European Championships.

looks like hes signing someone

2-0 against ak graz.. good result and should mean qualification now fingers crossed!

as for the transfers, well theres a lot going on.. owen didnt start today so hes probably off to madrid now and morientes or eto as a replacement + around 10M.. not a bad swap, if he choses morientes as owens almost set to go now. wont be the same liverpool but thank god gerrard stayed.

hopefully well sign xabi alonso and also theres still rumours about wrightphillips, although city said that they wouldnt let him go.

definately needing right midfielder.. although finnan did play well today i thought, lots of good crosses. is his move to blackburn still on? we cant lose more players surely!

I dont usally post in this thread but I had to following todays signing and possibly signing for the Reds. It looks like they have signed Luis Garcia from Barca who is a great winger who could play the forward. I know last season he took Saviola's place so he must be good. Also the potential signing of Xabi Alonso would be great for the Reds as well. I think he is one of the best youngsters in Spain along with Jaoquin & Torres.

Anyway these two signings would bolster a Red side that I belive if they keep Owen that is, that can seriously challenge for the title this year. They are definitly better than Man Utd. Arsenal & Chelski? maybe we will have to see. Im sure all Liverpool supportors will be happy if these signings go through.

Posted by tall paul 2 on Aug-12-2004 21:36:

Looks like Michael Owen has gone to Real Madrid for 8M pounds plus a player which wont be Morientes or Eto but either Nunez or Juanfran.. who are????? and 8 million come on what the hell.. i suppose u cant blame anyone though than the Liverpool board. Any ideas why he wouldnt sign? i mean with gerrard hes the best player at the club and i dont think it will be because of money that hes gone. i blame the board though.. bastards!

The Viera deal looks like its hit problems cos Arsenal are asking for more cash for him, and he wants to have a wage as high as the other top players at the club. The worry about that is that Real may now try to up liverpools bid for xabi alonso and snatch him from us as well. They aint gonna be a popular team on merseyside if that happens.

have heard of garcia before but not really seen him play. i suppose he could be used as alternative striker by the sounds of it and if he replaced saviola at barca than hes gotta be half decent! if owens to leave though we need both garcia and alonso and probably another decent striker next year unless cisse or baros come good. the only worry now is that benitez is panic buying cos of smicers injury and murphy and owen sales. that wont be good.

any of u noted as well that the old french liverpool side is turning spanish?!!!!

Posted by InterMilan31 on Aug-12-2004 22:20:

8 mil & a shit player. Thats robbery. If I were a Red supporter I would sell him for enough money to grab a world-class player for any posistion. I would want enough money to get anyone I would want to get. Baros could replace Owen(maybe only if he continues his Euro form) and you could use the money for defenders or mid-fielders?

Or pull off a shock sell Owen for enough money to get Rooney!

Posted by tall paul 2 on Aug-12-2004 22:40:

yeah.. like to see rooney at liverpool.. but it wont happen!! would have got more money for him a year ago. the fee is only that much because hell be in his last year this year and then could go for nothing at the end of the year.. if this deal had been done last season could have got 25m + for him.. but then we wouldnt be in champ league i suppose

Posted by evil_bastard on Aug-13-2004 14:05:

Benitez confirmed it today, Owen to Real for 8M and Nunez.

Who is Antonio Nunez and what do you guys think of this? Think you will sign another striker before the end of august?

If Owen wouldn't sign a new contract then you had little option but to sell him as he would leave for free next summer. Seems you've been shafted.

Posted by InterMilan31 on Aug-13-2004 17:24:

Personally I think Liverpool got screwed on the deal. You know they wanted Morientes but he played in the CL so now he cant go to Liverpool.

It really is a shame though when players arent loyal to clubs any more.

he can play but not in the CL for Liverpool just the other competitions.

LFC have been fucked.

Posted by tall paul 2 on Aug-14-2004 00:01:

i dont think we been fucked because in all fairness if owen had stayed 1 more year and not signed a new contract then how much worse would that be if hed gone for free. ok we need a new striker now for sure especially now heskey and owen have gone, our main strikeforce last year.

the luis garcia deal has fallen through though which im dissapointed at. he wants to stay at barcelona. it seems as though liverpool cant afford the contracts of the best players!

dont forget the transfers havent finished yet, still got til september. id be keen for them to make a bid on saviola, cos now eto has arrived he probably wont be first choice at barca. someone pass me benitez's mobile no!!!!!

Luis Garcia staying is a shame. Would not bid for Saviola since I have yet to see a Argentina player succeed in England. If I were the Reds I would get Gilardino from Parma. He is available since Parma are bankrupt and for I belive 10 mil is quality. Watch him during the Olympics and you will see.

A List Of Players LFC should look at:
Gilardino-Parma
Ibrahimovic-Ajax
Van Bommel-PSV (Never can get enough mid-fielders)
Joaquin-Betis(same reson as above)
Torres-Atletico Madrid
and
Mido(Could resurect carrer and wouldnt look for first team to begin)

Not a Red fan but I would like to see a top club(no disrespect to Ajax who are class but league is not) get Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He proved he is class in Euro and previous C/L. He would be a hit at Anfield and challenge Cisse & Baros for places.

Mido was interested in us until we told him that he would have to fight for his place this season. Even though Shearer will be gone next season he was impatient for first team action. Also now that Marseille have lost Drogba they're going to be less likely to let him go.

Not sure about that now. I watched the Marseille match from last weekend and I do not remember seeing him playing. Who cares he was last on the list anyway

Liverpool fans ever think you would see this:

Posted by PacMan on Aug-20-2004 15:36:

meh owen is greedy.

hope we sign xabi alonso soon.

class player and a soon to be world class midfielder for spain.

still think we need to get a right winger.

I thought you already had him practicing? I read that he was signed just not presented yet. Heard you have come to terms with Luis Garcia.

Posted by tall paul 2 on Aug-20-2004 21:59:

yep garcia and alonso are on their way to anfield. 2 great signings from what ive heard, both on 5 yr deals. bit worried that thats 4 players from spain this year.. i hope that none of them do a diouf, although im a bit worried about josemi as he hasnt really impressed me as much as carragher at right back and henchoz and hyppia in the middle would do. have to see more of him..

Posted by Xavier on Aug-22-2004 01:38:

good fightback, if Kirkland wasnt injured Dudek would lose his place.

Posted by PacMan on Aug-22-2004 17:43:

josemi is a good rightback, same mentality as carra and is MUCH better at going forward then carra.

btw steven gerrard = god

mmmmmmmmm /me drools at thought of gerrard and xabi alonso in central midfield.
