cool

Posted by Crazy Serb on Dec-17-2004 21:10:

I dunno how good that deal is, especially with Alonzo in there (he's been complaining about health all season long as well, and hasn't been the old Zo we are all used to)... but hell, if that's what it takes to get that complaining excuser Vince outta here, so be it!

Posted by Sly_Guy on Dec-17-2004 21:15:

You know, this is a pretty decent deal. Zo will help the frountcourt and free up bosh. Help with out rebounding tremendously. The Williams's I actually don't know much about, but from what I've heard, is that they're tough 'bring it everynight' players. Exactly what our team needs. But most importantly, the 2 first rounders in this year's draft. To be honest, I don't have much hopes for this season, as 3 new players in the roster will take time to fit into the system, so hopefully we'll get 2 top 15 picks in the draft, and I can pray for a good crop of college players this year.

Posted by Abood on Dec-17-2004 21:26:

i kinda like the trade..theres no all star on this team anymore but look at detroit dont have any and they are a gr8 team. and ya Zo is a good addition although not fully healthy but still way better than woods and that new guy.

Posted by Yohan on Dec-17-2004 21:28:

Zo is past his prime, IMO. He's still a good player and Raps desperately need a proven big man up front, but I doubt he's good for more than 2 seasons.

Posted by Sly_Guy on Dec-17-2004 21:42:

3 first rounders this year....Methinks we won't need zo for more than 2 seasons.

Posted by Yohan on Dec-17-2004 21:57:

Well... Depends on what the Raps get on draft next year.

Not all first rounds turn out half decent.

Posted by MarkT on Dec-17-2004 22:14:

I like that deal.

He may not be 100%...and he's definitely past his prime...but Alonzo is a MUCH needed big body up front. Poor Bosh needs some help!

What's left on Alonzo's contract anyway? The idea was that we'd HAVE to take on equivalant salary if we trade Vince, but that someone with only a year or two left could then be let go, and we'd have a ton of cap room to sign a top notch free agent or two. Hopefully that's the case here too?

Two first rounders as well...nice. Let's give the new management a chance to work some draft magic and really scout some talent.

I know the other players by name, but that's about it...?

Posted by EvilDust on Dec-18-2004 00:05:

I'm willing to bet Carter will get 20 PPG once again off Kidd's passes...if (a big if) he stays healthy.

Now that Carter is gone, there's no one exciting to watch in the Raps. If Bosh can consistently play as well as he did against the T-Wolves...he has a lot of catching up to do with his peers, Wade and Melo (Forget about Lebron, that guy is just light years beyond)

Good thing about not having a franchise star player, tickets will now be cheaper!!

Posted by dEsidEL on Dec-18-2004 00:08:

bottom line is .. look at the value of Carter and McGrady at their prime and look at what we've gotten back in return on this day. it's not encouraging ..

pls. pls. FIRE PEDDIE

Posted by MarkT on Dec-18-2004 01:31:

oh, and the best part of this deal...although I know people will disagree...we kept Jalen.

I just read the contracts though...shit...we're on the hook for a lot of years for a lot of $$$

hahahaha. yeah they only have BEN WALLACE! defensive player of the year

Posted by TheNeonAlien on Dec-18-2004 01:37:

PS. Zo stinks. he cant play anymore. WHY IS THIS GUY STILL PLAYING BASKETBALL?! i think its all in the picks and the money they freed up. they will be back in two years. trust me.

Im praying that carter is a flop in NJ!

yea, that final shot against the Pacers was really something.....

...he needs to go.

Posted by Yohan on Dec-18-2004 02:48:

Raps really gotta win at least a few close games.

He made two baskets and then two from the line before Reggie nailed that last shot. If Jalen could give the Raptors 23 points every game, I think everyone would be quite satisfied

Posted by Crazy Serb on Dec-18-2004 08:18:

We lost the game by 3 pts?! WTF? Again?!! Geez...

That addition of Zo (if he decides to check in to Toronto, that is) is much more valuable than whatever Carter provided the team with in the few games he's played this season... They can finally give up on Loren Woods for a bit (thank god, that kid is weak).

And Eric + Aaron Williams combo is a solid addition... they're not big time scorers/shooters, but are pretty much bangers and hustlers on the court, a-la-Bonner style.

The only question remains - we shipped 1 guy out, got 3 guys in return. Who are the other 2 guys that will need to be dropped from the current roster to free up the room for the new guys?

Posted by EvilDust on Dec-18-2004 16:53:

Moiso got waived
Useless Aroujo and Pape Sow are placed in IL.

Posted by Yohan on Dec-18-2004 18:00:

Roger Mason Jr also got waived.

I think Araujo needs to spend some time in the NBDL or something. Needs to learn the game a bit more.

Pape Sow at least played better than Moiso.

Posted by MarkT on Dec-18-2004 19:03:

see ya to Mason, Moiso...underachievers.

WTF is this though...it DOES look like Alonzo WILL NOT play here??? Ok...this is not so cool, but I guess that means if Toronto buys him out, we have some cap room for next year to sign someone else??? From today's Toronto Star:

...and Alonzo Mourning, who Babcock never expects to play in Toronto.

"We did this trade understanding that his medical condition may mean he never plays for us," Babcock said of Mourning, who will likely try to engineer a buyout of his contract. "We would do this trade regardless of whether he was in it or not. He was in it to try and balance the trade out and he's a great player, and it's our feeling that if he doesn't play for us it still is a great trade. If he does play for us, then it's a huge bonus."

yeah, he's past his prime and not 100%, but I'd still like to have seen what Alonzo and Bosh could have done together up front. More:

"But the trade may only be a precursor of more moves.

According to league sources, the Raptors and Miami Heat remain in discussions on a trade that would involve Toronto's Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall and a package of Miami players including Eddie Jones and Malik Allen."

Posted by Pett on Dec-18-2004 19:11:

get rid of jalen.........soooooooooooooooooo overpaid.

Posted by MarkT on Dec-18-2004 19:18:

^^^ on that point...I agree. I still like him as a player though...especially when the playoffs roll around (assuming we'll be in them).

Carter, Rose, Marshall for two first rounders, two "older" roll players, Eddie Jones and Malik Allen.

I dunno

Those two draft picks are going to be the determining factors on how good this trade has been, IMHO.

Posted by Yohan on Dec-18-2004 23:16:

^The picks are protected, so the Raps might not even get to use them next draft day depending on how Denver and Philly does in the lottery.

Posted by Crazy Serb on Dec-19-2004 04:06:

Now, who wants to give up Marshall?! WTF! Might as well send Bosh out of here as well... fucken idiots. And what is Eddie Jones gonna do? Not more than Carter, that's for sure.

Posted by MarkT on Dec-19-2004 04:48:

yeah, I will be sooooo pissed if they deal Marshall
