PVD was great as usual, I very much needed my PVD fix to get me through til the conference. Didn't stop dancing the entire time through his set. Edgar was good too, but I was too dead to even think about moving during his 2nd set.
Great to see all the TAs again down out Space, much love to you all.
Special shoutouts to:
Phil - thanks for the ride, without you I might not have even went. that new camera takes some good pics
Colleen - good making the road trip with you, good job staying awake... i couldn't
Brent - great to see you again, wish you didn't have to go to Iraq, hope you come back soon.
Ginger - lovely as always. little paranoid on the way back to the hotel?
Boomer - good to meet you. hope you're enjoying florida. we listened to your mix on the way back it's pretty good and as i would say "markusesque"

First of all, let me say thank you to all of my TA friends, buddies, and friends at and out of Space. This has been a seriously interesting year, but I am most thankful to you guys. I didn't celebrate Thanksgiving (I slept it out), but I still wanted to share my appreciation for you guys, and the music. As for the party, I was sober... when I woke up this morning!!
I arrived tardy for all of Edgar's set, but still got into the party real quick with some fire house beats. Yea I know, house sucks. Nobody likes it in Miami...whatever. Anyways, Paul came on fresh with a hard beat and good energy. Space was stupid packed, so it was rediculously hot, and you couldn't really dance. Still, best night I've seen Paul Van Dyk at the 34... He was the best 3hr warm up you could have asked for, for The Man. Edgar V. took off and ripped everyone apart. Reminded me of his set after Mauro Picotto...
. That man is so crazy, he owns that booth. Unbelievable how well he builds up the energy, it never stops. The V is seriously good at his job. Oscar was throwing it down allright upstairs, but it was too hot and packed, so we dipped around 9:00. Here's some pics, from the way I saw the night.
Brent. Try not to hurt anyone, and be safe... and enjoy the MRE gum, you get 2(!) chicklets in each meal. Sorry, had to rub it in. Aim high brother. I'll hit you up before you go.

Apparently, Zach and I melted into the wall on this pic, I didn't use effects on this one. Weird?

Awesome Thankgiving. Peace.

ok i will c and p what i put in another post and then add to it
So after a long drive and a long awaited return of pvd at space I had a blast for the most part. My favorite moment was in the 21up set where he spun dk - murder was the bass into noemi - y.o.u. (pvd rework). Its been since the 2002 cream set that i have know of the noemi track getting spun. The all ages event was great because of the ample amount of jail bait, i mean girls, lol. His all ages set was hard at first but softened up the last hour. His spinning during that set wasnt really on point either. I guess he wasnt feeling the crowd but i dont blame him cause I wasnt either. I will NEVER goto an all ages event in space again. No liquor and no smoking cigarettes. both shows made me feel like i was one of many sardine but i would much rather it be slammed than no one in there. The first set was from 9:45 to 12:05 and the 2nd set was from 2:15 till 5am. I was kinda expecting him to play longer on the 2nd set. I have one MAJOR complaint. Space you need to do away with the podium near the dj booth. If you wernt up front u couldnt see the dj and the dj couldnt see the crowd. It was fine if they had him on the projection screen but most of the time they didnt. All in all i will say it was worth the trip down and worth the money speant. I didnt meet any TAs because i didnt know who or what to look for. But i assure u i will come back down soon.
About the comments about his mac. He doesnt use auto mix and he doesnt play groups of tracks predone. I have sat behind him for an entire set and watched him and watched the songs scroll on the screen as he uses final scrath. When he moves the record back the song moves back on the screen, if u have never used final scrath u have no right to talk shit about it and the way it works. There are several reasons to why he went with a laptop. Its easy to carry on an airplane so theres no chance vinyl will get lost in bagage. Also he reworks alot of his songs and its just not conventional to get them all pressed to vinyl. Also since he uses a non compressed format his songs sound more clear and louder on a club setup. So you ask why not go with CDs? Ask Edgar V he had a couple cds skipping and one of them come to a stand still (take that people who think edgar did better than pvd)To all u pvd haters, if u dont like him dont go. I will have more room to enjoy myself. And for gods sake space: BURN THE FRONT PODIUM
I like house... it's that I think too much of the same kind of house in a set can get boring. Plus, there's so many different kinds of house... you can't paint house one color and say it sucks without listening to all the other kinds of house out there... there's more to house than tribal and progressive.
I know Edgar V had a few CD skips and stalls, but I was able to get into his set more than Paul's IMO. PvD is a great DJ, don't get me wrong, but that night in particular, I think Edgar took the lead. As for the podium, yeah it might suck for you and you may lose intimacy from the DJ and his crowd, but there was an elevated area where you could stand there and see the DJ just fine without a problem. You could still see the DJ in the front, but going too foward into the potium, you'll lose sight of him (obviously). Get over the potium. I don't blame Space for having it. It could serve as a good security method and prevent crazed fans from easily jumping it and getting into the DJ booth.
I don't know, man. Maybe you have a better idea what to do with that potium, yet keep the booth secure. All I'm saying is that I'm not complaining over it. it looks cool IMO. I especially like how the colors change as if it were a volume meter.

| Originally posted by DrDave BLING... sometimes, you are so right. Here's my theory: On comes the Macintosh, Paul loads up his program, selects a "track group", hits the play button, occasionally selects another "track group" and hits the "automix button", and pulls out the vinyl and spins the knobs just to fake us all out. Now if you look at Phil's last pic (SHHH!! Shut up Dave!), you can tell Paul is "chillin"... Now, if Paul's going to party it up with the crowd, why make it hard on himself while he's fuc:dup (Damnit Dave, I told you not to blow his cover!) by actually mixing records when he can just "chill" and press the play button? I dunno, maybe I'm just Co-Ray-Zee, but would anyone like to prove me wrong? Because of the Mac, I close with this... ...and for those of you who are colorblind, I'll clear it up for ya. My review and pics from the show, after you guys marinate on this one. |
Both of you panicked!! LOL, iss all good, you just haven't met me. I said "SOMETIMES, you are so right". Didn't say this time...That's not why I don't like PvD. Anyone could easily pull something off like that with the CDJ's, and I understand how the scratch program works. I don't like his weak stage prescence, that's all. It was a satirical theory to just be stupid, lighten up bro. All of the chill TA's hold it down up front, so the box doesn't really matter... it's actually kinda cool up there. Gerry, about the house. I was being totally sarcastic. I luv it, it's co-ray-zee in a totally different manner. I was just trying to avoid the hater spam. I thought it was weird they weren't playing PvD on the terrace, would have given a lot more space. Cedric sucked, anyways.
You're right. Anyone could cheat with the CDjs... I've actually heard of DJs who take the songs they're going to play to ACID and make them all 140bpm and cut the waveforms perfectly on the cue starting point... so all they have to do in the club is press play at the right time.
The only way you can prove the DJ was cheating is if you were actually back there with him in the DJ booth watching everything he was doing. Apparently, the people accusing Paul of cheating weren't in the DJ booth. I agree with some of the posters that it was a shame there wasn't a video of what was going on in there throughout the whole set. Most of this "cheating" talk could have been avoided.
I agree with you on the weak stage presence. I'd rather see Tiesto than PvD for the sole reason that his crazy antics can get the crowd far more hyped than Paul ever will. At Space, I felt as if Paul was ignoring the crowd by staring into the laptop. Other people just claim he wasn't feeling the "poser" crowd. I don't think as a prestigious DJ, he should neglect to feed the crowd based on the way they look or act. If I were Paul, any crowd that was going nuts for me, would be good enough for them to deserve the same performance I would give to a crowd that looked or acted exactly the way I wanted them to.
But o well, Edgar V played... and that's what mattered most to me... His set was truly badass! So it was totally worth it going there.

The only thing I am going to say is.....the closing with Schiller Mit Heppner- I Feel You.....OMFG I DIED.
I loved PVD's set...all of it...even better than PVD @ Space for the WMC...although I wished he could have played till 6 and that it was not so crowded. NO DJ....I mean NO mofo DJ can do it like P V D can...no one can tear up the place or deliver better sounds than him. The spinning was great, the transitions were flawless....and he sure knows how to master the Space sound system...it didn't sound like shit and for the first time ever my ears weren't ringing that bad, thanks to the bass not being so horrible as it was in June for a particular DJ that will remain nameless. ANYWAYS...unbelievable turnout...from when I got there the vibe was great, I knew for sure I was going to have a spectacular night, and I DID!!! Edgar V did awesome...but can I say Edgar over PVD? NO WAY! Edgar is Edgar and PVD is PVD...no one over the other one. So STFU you PVD haters. Instead of being in the main room you should have been in the terrace with Cedric Gervais (sp?) and the mediocre house, all I have to say to that is
??!? UGH
PVD dropped sick tunes. and took it back in time with "Y.O.U." ahhhh gooooood time. That's just my review as a PVD lover. He surpassed all expectations on Wed.
I left Space like this
...and now I wait for the next time God graces us with his presence.
Until next time and another PVD review!
