You're kind of right, and kind of not. It depends really... Trance has a vast array of subgenre's/styles that the unedumacated & unfamiliar say "all sound the same". Not true, although down to semantics ultimately (depth of knowledge of the genre).
I say- find your niche, stick your head down and go for it. What I'd really like to see is more people in Melbourne/Australia getting into performing edm hybrids live. Blending traditional & Innovative trance sounds with live vocals, acoustic & organic instruments, improvised arrangements, and live synthesised fx.
Result: You still have real trance, but with an inherently different sound/vibe and vastly broader appeal to live music enthusiasts!
Where is the problem with that? Lack of time, dedication, and passion?
*stay tuned*

yep, my thoughts exactly. i can always return to hobart (or canberra) with my tail between my legs if it dont work out. and at the very worst ill have a couple of years in melb, with heaps and heaps of events!!! yummy.

Absolutely mate, I've thought about the money and various other aspects exhaustively, and beleive me money is not nearly the most daunting factor essentially, it's only a matter of time.
Nyquist_Theorem knows what I mean by that
.
Time to develop the skill & ability is easily the biggest obstacle, as you can collect the necessaries (which cost money) over this time very gradually. I'm not suggesting everyone goes out and buys way out west's rig, just start tweakin people (if you are not already). Just start creating as well as regurgitating.
Posted by sLiCk_NiCk on Mar-10-2005 13:32:
yeh understandable
i would like to get involved with production sometime soon. i think some of my ideas and just the way i percieve music and sounds in general could assist me in making some interesting tunes.performing live would obviously be the next step after that.
im definately not going to count it out
just need some inspiration...and a little more $$$
