they should hire people to walk around the club.. and if somebody smells really nasty.. kick them out of the club. The worst thing you could have to ruin a fav. song is to have some smelly bastard beside you.

Id like to add....I agree the special events security were really awesome!

I think KS was set up the way it was for a simple reason. FLOORSPACE. that set up gives you the most amt of square footage and with that many people there im GLAD it was set up like that. decadence set up wouldve made it horrible imo.

I am also wondering if anyone knows who the paul van dyk looking guy was with the ARMADA shirt on?(no not armin) but some dude up there with him from time to time...

Blank and Jones had an amazing set aswell. I dont want my blab review from before to not reflect that.

The classic tunes dropped by all were such a treat.

Got there early, in quickly.
Demi in the Guv 1st. Beats were a little lacking. Never felt the Guv so cold in my life! Had to hit the patio to warm up. Of course that didn't last long after the crowds arrived.

Hit the KH for Markus. Good set- too bad they didn't turn on those lights behind him at all, leaving him in the dark- kinda rude, IMO. OMG his remix of "Open Your Eyes".... shivers & goosebumps.

Grayarea- last time they were here their sound was shit, from 'no soundcheck after arriving late', tho I really liked their style. What was the problem this time? I think people would like them more if it wasn't so distorted. Woulda liked to hear the vocals a bit clearer. This time they ended w/the singer actually SINGING "Gravity" as opposed to just playing the recorded version last time.

Blank & Jones- left when they started, to try & catch a little Diggers. Decided to check him out from the Deluxe Lounge (cuz the Guv was beyond rammed). This is when things get 'cloudy'... kinda out of it. Couldn't really get into it, even w/everyone saying how good it was. Too bad tho- he was amazing in Israel. Wanted to check out DJ Mini in the acid lounge, but the traffic patterns in place woulda required another loop around the entire club to do that, so skipped it.

Back to KH to catch the end of B&J- things still a little 'cloudy'- really dont remember much. By the sounds of all your reviews, I missed the set of the night. I absolutely LOVED them at Guv last time, disappointed w/them at Swirl a few months back, which is why I thought it was 'ok' to leave during their set for a bit. Wish I hadn't. Graham had gotten some pain in his neck/ spine, so he left suddenly at this point.

Armin- again, things seem a little blurry. Good tunes, thought some mixes needed improvement last night (very unusual from him), then left to Skybar for some air. Demi was on here now. Better beats, still not grabbing me tho.
Popped into Orange Room for some breaks for a few mins w/Demonik- played some remix of Sons of Loop da Loop (classic oldie!)

Back to Armin. Graham was messaging me that he was watching it from home, so Dallas & I jumped in front of the camera to wave hello. Bummed I missed Cafe del Mar. Armin was supposed to end at 8, so at 7:50, left to catch a bit of the Dish, since I really haven't stayed to watch them in a long time.

Deep Dish- set of the night for me!! Sick, sick beats, that sucked your mind in. Danced til my legs were about to crumble. Was gonna leave at 9:45, but changed my mind- best decision ever, cuz those last 30 mins were UNBELIEVABLE. 16B- "Escape (Driving to Heaven)" and Deep Dish- "Dreams" feat. Stevie Nicks...

Nice to meet Paula001. Can't believe how many TA's I didn't run into there- holy crap, was it packed! and hot. Big ups to all the TA's that I hung out with, and made my night so special, and brought the human touch to a very 'cattle herd' of an event.

That was one of the sickest Labour of Love ... jungle room was too hot for me to stay in.

I had a wicked time though, TAs everywhere and everyone was having ablast. It's so nice to see ppl kickin' hard before the summer is done for.

Thanks to all those who attended this year's LOL! See you at Oakenfold & Canttaneo & GUV 9yr!

got there around 11 got in fairly quickly , was upset about missing mark
o's set cause his kool haus sets are always amazing (and rare)

Marcus shultz : extreamly impressed, saw him in miami and wasnt so impressed, but when he opened with language i started losing my mind.
9/10

B&J : had the crowd going the craziest, and uber trance, these guys are unreal. 9.5/10 ,,,,, not a perfect 10 because the longer set in guvy on chinese new years was just that much better.

Armin: a set worthy of holding his #1 position in my books, i love his energy and enthusiasm for music! me and armin rocked out to some of his drops too, (its kinda fun the way he finds u in the crowd and rocks it out with u as if hes in the crowd himself)

where are 80% of the ta's at the end of the night...... pussies for going home so early... u need to be trained.

shoutouts to everyone that partied it up with me , u know who u are.
see ya next time.

erm, i kinda read the first and last pages of this thread, so forgive me if i repeat what's already been said and say that this party ROCKED!

it was just so insane there. the amount of people, the talent, the production (at least in KH), everything was great. i'm from vancouver, and we do not ever have anything of this scale. even our biggest raves are not nearly as half as good as was LoL. and the TA representation at that party was crazy. in van, we have about 20 active trance-loving TAs. you guys have at least 10 times that and then some heh

i want to thank TOTAs for being so nice and accomodating to kris from NYC and me this weekend. you guys made the weekend so much more fun. a big thank you to you all (i cant start listing names cause im really bad with those heh)

right now, im working on pictures from LoL. for now here are pictures from the BBQ, i will also post the link in the appropriate thread. http://apri-peel.fotopages.com/?entry=545427 i appologize in advance if i got some of your names wrong please let me know if you want me to fix picture titles or add titles, i'll get that changed ASAP

Right, goodnet, that was it.

Anyhoo, full review:

Got into Guvernment just past 10. Didn't expect it to be that empty, even at 10, lol. At first, me and my Trance n00bs just walked around the whole complex as I was showing them all the rooms. Then we just sat and chilled in the blue cool-down room adjacent to The Guv (wtf is it called anyway?) waiting for our other friends to arrive.

Finally around 12 we made our way into Kool Haus to see Markus Schulz. He played a really solid set imo - nice tracks, nice mixing, and the SOUND SETUP WAS ABSOLUTELY SUPERB. His set sounded amazing, literally - not too loud, no distortions, balanced, etc. And then he closed with Satellite - I was having flashbacks of A&B when everyone was singing along. My only regret is that we didn't catch the earlier part of his set - from the tracklisting, it seems like he dropped some very awesome tunes there.

I didn't really know what to expect from Grayarea, but they dissapointed anyway - it was mainly the sound - waaaay too distorted, and just ... weird. We stuck around for maybe 15 minutes of their set.

From the KH we went to check out High Contrast in The Drink. When we got in, the room was beyond packed, and it was easy to see why - Jungle will get your feet moving whether you like it or not, which is why recently I've been getting into Jungle more and more. The energy in that room was off the fucking charts! I seriously think the LOL organizers underestimated the crowd that a few good Jungle DJs can bring in. We stayed in there till High Contrast closed, and then I wanted to see Blank & Jones open, so off to the Kool Haus we went.

As we were on our way to the KH, going through The Orange Room, we just caught some crazy remix of Armand Van Helden - My, My, My being dropped. We instantly stopped in out tracks and danced our asses off. Then, I was just about to continue on to B&J when I heard the DJ (who I didn't know at the time, but now know was Deekline) mixing in a beat that could only have been The Prodigy. Fucking sure enough, he was dropping Smack My Bitch Up. I'm a huuuge Prodigy fan, and I was going insane. Right at that point, my night was complete. UNTIL, Deekline followed it up with YET ANOTHER PRODIGY track - Outta Space. Shiiite. After that one, he played another favourite tune of mine that I thought I'd NEVER hear in a club: Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back. w00t! Until this day I didn't really know what Breaks were, nor how fucking amazing they were. So if any of you TAs/Breaks-lovers know when another good Breaks DJ is coming by, PLEASE make it known - I'm definitely checking that shit out again.

Eventually we broke off our cocaine-like addiction that was The Orange Room to go see Blank & Jones. They were playing an awesome Trance set - not too drawn out, not too hard. Then again, could you have expected any less from them? I almost forgot how much I loved their Flowtation track, and they did a good job of reminding me.

There was one other DJ that I wanted to see, who was unfortunately sharing his time slot with B&J, so we cut our KH stay short ot go back to The Drink to see Andy C. The room didn't change at all since we left, and Andy was putting some awesome Jungle on, even though I'll have to admit I really wanted him to play more Housey Jungle, and not just pure Jungle like he was. Didn't dissapoint still, cause I still had a great time in that room.

After he closed, we were off to see the Arminator. He started off playing a great set, and I dunno where the fuck we were when we missed Till There Was You, but I was soo pissed today when I found out I missed that track. Armin doesn't dissapoint, and it was evident the crowd was loving him. If there was one thing I had to nitpick him about, it was how distorted the vocals in the tunes that he dropped sounded - unless you knew what the lrics were beforehand, it was impossible to catch them. We danced to a bit more of his set, before deciding to head off to the Guv to see Deep Dish.

They were OK. It was danceable, and you had to love the Nitrogen machine and the lights, but Armin was waaaay better, so like after 30 minutes of Deep Dish we went back to the KH.

Armin was still coming on strong, and by the time it was 8am I was wishing he'd stop as my body was completely drained of all energy. I loved it how they opened up the side door to let people rest and cool down there without missing a second of Armin's set - that was truly appreciated. We left right after Armin dropped Silence, which, in my opinion, is one of the best tracks to end your night on.

All in all, an amazing party - the best one I've been to so far. Nobody dissapointed, even though we saw so many different DJs. Didn't have any problems with the bouncers, nor the people, nor the crowd in general (I knew it was gonna be packed, so I braced myself in advance, lol). Had a great time.

Posted by apri_peel on Sep-06-2005 07:27:

^^ you mentioned bouncers and security and i agree absolutely, they were very friendly a HUGE change from vancouver bouncers who are in most places are complete jerk offs. i know its their job but doesnt mean its ok to be an ass to people, no matter what.

i dont know if this is a typical treatment you guys get in TO from bouncers but i actually saw some of them dancing to the beats, that was dope

Awesome Night!
John Digweed Owned and so did Demi, can't believe how fast time flew. As far as Armin was concerned.... He was absolutely mind blowing!

TOok pics and got my vinyls signed by Armin, Schulz, Digweed, Deep Dish, Demi, Blank & Jones so i was a happy camper

P.S Saw the Tota in full force on the podium in the Kool Hause, I have to admit the Tota girls are not bad at all!

Next Stop Sept 17th! Paul Oakenfold and Hernen Cattaneo!!!!!!

I was in line by 8:30pm and inside KH by 9. Ended up staying in the KH 'till 8:30am. Stayed in KH pretty much the whole night, only ventured into the Guv early on in the night while Demi was spinning to see how things look, only to return to KH minutes later.

Mark Oliver - on OK set for my tastes, 2nd half of the set was a bit better, but the only time I really enjoyed his set was at A&B

Markus Schulz - first time seeing him, great set

Grayarea - the sound was better than the last time they were here, and I think because of that I enjoyed their set more, while their style isn't for everybody, they sure had me dancing

Blank & Jones - I've heard good things about them after the Chinese New Year, saw them at SWIRL and was VERY disappointed with their performance there...however, last night they dropped an awesome set

AvB - seen him sooo many times now, always plays a good set

Staff were nice this time, didn't see any bouncers pushing their way through the crowd or anything. KH crowd was quite good. While I understand them wanting to maximize floorspace, I still wish they had some decorations to add to the atmosphere (although the lights behind the DJ were pretty cool).

Good to see everyone out and having a good time

Dancing Dude WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF...

A few minutes after Armin Van Buuren came on in the Kool Haus...I felt amazing! The hard sounds that were pumping from the speakers were phenominal...my exact thoughts...
"Armin is my sandman. This is what my dreams are made of. Taking this moment home, putting it under my pillow for sweet dreams forever!"
Loved every beat dropping second!!!

+ did i miss the boat that you're allowed to smoke cigs again? i stunk like cigarette smoke so bad when i got home.

Posted by Derka on Sep-06-2005 13:32:

More like the Labour of 15k Mosh Pit 2005

I'm disappointed - First i had to get scalp tickets for $70 cuz everywhere was sold out. So thats a piss off. Then when i do finally get into the place after waiting for a little over an hour in line - There's a wait to get into the washroom for like another 30min. And yea, i didnt start actually enjoying myself till around 2-2:30am :P

But yea to say this event was 'packed' or 'crowded' is an understatement. There was just bodies in every imaginable place, I personally liked the enviroment at the tent better it wasnt AS crowded and you werent sweating buckets.

That show could have done with oh...i dunno maybe 5000 less people.

I saw quite a few ppl smoking inside, me personally i went outside. But im pretty sure the general concenus is that you can only smoke outside.

Thumbs up

Awesome, awesome night...Stayed out of the Guv for most of the night for obvious reasons. Checked out skybar, saw some fellow TA's there.

It was my first time seeing Armin Van Buuren spin, and I can't believe how amazing he was! The crowd was pumped and jumping the entire time. Feems and I are pretty sure Armin looked in our direction a couple of times because we were the only ones dancing in our area up front instead of standing there with our arms raised in the air

What a great night!!!

Posted by LKD on Sep-06-2005 13:56:

fuck i hate computers....not only is my usual pc fuxx0red but so is my alternate pc now...

all i gotta say is....grayarea scared me shitless for a minute...guess it was the fact that i never saw someone use a vocoder live and i was trippin out....but they were fuckin GREAT (i feel the "distortion" was just cos of the vocoder)

markus schults = meh
demi =couldve been better
digweed= HOLY FUCK
evil 9 = *bows*
ubertrancer in orange room= priceless

people where all the pics!!!!???????

Posted by Killah Monkey on Sep-06-2005 14:10:

You're all right about L.O.L. It was packed, just enough people in there to sweat about 5 pounds away in 5 hours. Bathrooms were OK in some areas...others were not worth the mission.
Come on though, with all the great DJ's at this one little spot in TO, don't you think Guv would try to sell as many tickets as possible to pay for the event?
The sweat, the heat, the line-ups and yes, the sweaty topless men getting perspiration all over your kicka$$ outfit was totally worth it!

Posted by kabelicious on Sep-06-2005 14:14:

We entered into the Kool Haus to hear Mark Oliver bringing it up to open the evening. The sound was ok in there - need more OOMPH I think. He played this one track I keep hearing - it's like a marching band drum staccato. I don't know the name of it but it was SICK!!!

When they opened up the route to the Guv, we were off - the tent outside this year was full of beds with pillows - waaaay better than the squishy fall-on-your-ass blocks last year. In the Guv, Demi was warming it up - love that man!!

Went outside to the patio to lounge and start off the evening. It was me, Aaron, Toni, Michelle, Rachel, Jason, Alicia, Bender, Jay, and Bri in the beginning (I think, I was a wee buzzy). Within an hour later or so later, it was just me.

I started off wandering to Kool Haus with Toni, Aaron, and Bender - saw more of Oliver and then Markus came on. Damn that man! His set was good - nice and proggy. I went back to the Guv to hear more Demi and then it was Diggers turn. DAMN! I love Digweed - I knew he had a better set in him then what he threw down at Bleu and I was correct. He banged the hell out of that place - I didn't want to move! The Guv was REALLY packed in there for this set - but their new "smokey cool ice machine that we blast down on the crowd" cooled me off nicely. I was able to find the TOTAs (front and center in EVERY DANG ROOM!) so I wasn't alone this evening.

I stayed in the Guv for a bit and then wandered up to Skybar with a TOTA (Enraptured). We listened a bit to the choons up there and mainly cooled off. Then back downstairs through the jungle room hell (no room to move or breathe and the human WALL was encountered at the bottom of the steps). Ended up back in the Guv for more Diggers and then the Orange Room to hear Evil 9 (??) who played Blur Song #2 at top volume as well as a sick "Smack my Bitch Up" tune.

Headed into Kool Haus and found more pockets of TOTAs. Schultz was done by then and it was Blank & Jones kickin'. They played an awesome "Message in a Bottle" remix with a woman's voice singing the tune. I was singing along and some guy was like "who's this?". I was like "The Police" to which he said "who are they?!". I lmao at him.

My TOTA friend found his mates so I headed out on my own again to search for DCSers and ended up in the Guv listening to the end of Diggers and the start of Deep Dish. I was impressed by Deep Dish - after being disappointed at Freedom in May, I was very glad to hear them bring it finally. I found Jason and Alicia chillin' behind the DJ booth and headed out again - I tend to wander when the whole Guv is open. It's kinda fun playing "human explorer" in there.

Went into the Orange Room again to catch Andy C - damn fine breaks man -and found the Fran. Decided to stick with him the rest of the evening seeing as both my keys and phone were in his car. We chilled in the Morocccan room on the couches for a bit - resting our tired footsies.

In the KH, I found Michelle for the first time all night and then Bender bopping up front to Armin. I was amazed - this was def not the Armin I'd heard before. The man was on it for a change - I wanted to dance my patootie off all night in there! So we stayed there for a spell - I went to go rest again with more TOTAs - damn they were everywhere! I was leid with beads by the Jaime (I show enough cleavage to not have to flash I guess). We listened to more Armin and then headed up to the Skybar for sunrise with Demi.

The skybar wasn't too packed but Demi was doing his best choonage. Found Jason, Jay, and Alicia. Chillin' on the couches up there watching the sun come up was beautiful. I wish all clubs had lounges on their rooftops! They closed Skybar around 7am (early) and we headed back down to the Guv for more Deep Dish.

Armin was finishing up so we jetted over there to hear the end of his set. The moment he finished, we rushed back into the Guv - having been warned they were closing off and emptying out the Kool Haus after Armin. Found the TOTA cluster in the middle of the Guv front and center and stayed there till 10am. Deep Dish killed it!!! They played Pump Up the Jams and more. They were banging it hard - I was sitting up on the bass bins getting a back massage for about an hour.

Found Bri (FINALLY!) watching from up in the Deluxe Lounge and got him and Jay to come downstairs with the rest of the crew. DaBura was a mountain of jamming muscle in front of DD all morning. After smoking my last clove, it was time to go around 10am. Headed out to the cars and got a ride back to Penny's from the Fran. Got there, showered, packed up and headed out to Cherry Beach down near the water.

We found Leanne, Weldy, Bri, Bender, and Jay all waiting and headed on a hunt for the mystical grassy knoll where choons were supposedly played. We were wandering wooded trails till Michelle finally asked a "suspicious cracker" where it was. They were just setting up when we got there. It was a nice place to lie in the sun, chill, shoot the shit, smoke up, and listen to weird ass ambient electro.

Left around 5:30pm and left for Michigan. Got to the Sarnia bridge and waited about an hour to cross. Bri and his posse ended up behind us - fockers!

Dropped Michelle off and passed out at midnight, woke up, got to work at 7am.

I'm still hearing Deep Dish's last tracks in my skull.

All in all, way better than last year - every room had great music coming from it (except the jungle-ridden Drink - that room was the same song all evening with different MC's). I am def back for the Guv's 9-year anniversary in October - couldn't ask for a better lineup, yo.

Thanks to all the Detroiters who ventured to TO for the first time - I am very glad you all had a sick time. Now you can understand why I keep coming back for more. Thanks to all the TOTAs as well - you guys are a second fam and I love the hell outta you!!!

Kris, over and out
