QUESTION FOR YOU GRAPHIC DESIGNERS

just wondering what the job prospects are like for someone who worked in animation (like the 3d shit) in singapore for the last however long. a friends cousin just migrated to australia and they are lookinf for work.
here is a really shitty profile (i dont really know them)

PROs: apparently is really good, won many awards in singapore for their work in animation (just finished an animated movie i think)
CONs: this is the ball breaker, knows not one word of english (except "lets dance bitch")

so if anyone works in the industry, it would be greatly appreciated if they had any information

cheers in advance (your all scum)

One thing you have realise is that the animation part of 3D is probably the one part that takes the longest to master. Your friend probably knows it but how his skill will be in comparison to the other animators is a different story.

I myself don't think character animation would be done manually anymore in the future with Motion Capture becoming more readily available to mostly everyone.

Also what program does he use, Maya or 3DS Max? Some companies use Lightwave 3D, XSI Softimage for most of their film and such but one thing you have to again understand is that 90% of film studios all use Maya so knowing that over the other is a much better qualification since companies cannot be bothered teaching such a complex program. Also more than 50% of American gaming studios use Maya.

The other programs are good but it still doesn't change the fact that people still prefer Maya.

Tell him what he uses and what he can do. What other skills for the animation part does he know?

Does he know how to rig properly? (And i mean superbly)
Does he know about Inverse Kinematics? (i'm sure he would though, just asking)

and so on.

What other parts of 3D does he know?

You have great taste

Can't wait for the new Studio Ghibli movie "Tales from Earthsea"

Laputa was awesome aswell, just hated the military part of it, made it lose that ghibli feel.

it's funny with Laputa because when SBS had a Miyazaki marathon, i was just flipping through channels when Laputa came on and my mum was around and she just sat down to watch, after the movie she loved it and wanted to watch the other marathon series

Grave of The fireflies is another good one

Joe Hisashi always does a perfect job on the music.

though it's just another circle

hahah my mum did the exact same thing (although I forced her to watch it). I really liked laputa, esp. the parts where they get to the gardens and there's that massive robot who looks after the animals. I want a robot like that. Nausika (sp?) of the Valley of the Wind was good too I thought, except the ending which I thought was too simplistic in it's aesthetics.. almost like they'd run out of budget to do a decent background for the final scenes.

Spirited Away is of course, amazing, and was my first Myazaki film that I saw, although I still think Princess Mononoke is better.

jolz's characters are cuter. the ones from princess Mononoke are freaky as.

phoar its been 5 yrs in the making and finally we have finished it, introducing a collaboration to end all collaborations

so it makes a lil sense heres the rules

- each patch must contain the number of the patch somewhere
- a theme/keyword is to be defined before any patches are created
- a new patch must connect to another patch created by the OTHER artist
- the new patch must contain an element from a patch it is connected to eg. could be a line, text, imagery
- the new patch must be a representation of the theme/keyword
- though the same theme, each patch must be unique in some way
- be it digital technique, design, layout, imagery, other.
- importing from other apps (eg. 3D render tool) is fine
- have fun!!
