As a noob, I'd like to sincerely thank all of the incredibly knowledgable members of this site. Without you guys, I'd be listening to what my friends sent me, which no joke, my first track ever, Love Comes Again (LOLZ).

You guys have shown me the likes of j00f, Marcel Woods, Marco V, Sander K, Rank 1, Underworld, the list goes on and on !! Who I now listen to all day every day.

I was def at the noob status a year ago when I joined this site. I think my first post was "Tiesto vs. Paul van Dyk" haha.

I can honestly say this website 100% got me involved and connected to EDM. Without it, like I said, Ti3st0r would own me.

I know its possible to successfully transform newbs into reasonable fans because it happened to me!

Even just a few words in a few posts that may have suggested artists or tracks have been such a huge help to me and my EDM collection.

Basically, all of you elitists deserve a HUGE thankyou from most of TA. You guys really hold this forum together. Youre posts really do make a difference and I hope my story is proof.

THANKS TA.

Don't leave spirit, then nobody will be around to write giant posts with me, or play along in a conversation that nobody else is interested in!

I've had those months where I just dont feel like posting, from time to time I will dissapear for a while out of frustration, sometimes I feel like I don't fit into this group. From time to time somebody will say something that will just leave me with a bad taste for the group at this site, like sometimes I feel that there aren't any people who have anything interesting to say, or that half the board are just parroting things they have heard elsewhere without thinking about it. Then there are people who just have really sad opinions(from my POV), and from time to time people will align themselves to an opinion and I will find that I am way outnumbered, that the overwhelming majority of people have what I would consider a very poor opinion on something that I consider important, sometimes it upsets me to the point that I will stay away from trance music as well. Thing like this happen, and I'll just float away to other sites, there is no lack of conversation and information on the internet, but for some reason I've always returned to TA.

But starting in late 2004 I did start to care, and started really participating in the MPP and PS forums. So I'm bumping this. Because it's worthy of conversation still.

I really have enjoyed the good conversations in MD. But sadly. Most of the good ones. Are older ones; and I've noticed a growing trend of shit-saturation in ALL the forums.

I thought I'd share my comments about this issue. Because I too have posted either silly threads or dumb comments in MD. And now I see how good this particular forum could be/once was.

I was reading it from the beginning. And a lot of people confuse elitists with jerks. The true TA elites on here aren't going to be-little you and make fun of your for your tastes. They might jab at you a bit, but that's par for the course of being a new user. It's happened to me several times. It's a right of passage. Get over it. We were all noobs once (the song that was in the background was actually the 2003 Remix of Gamemaster, but silly me). The real elitists do suggest neat new songs for your ears; have good thoughts and overall have a pretty good attitude.

But unfortunately MD seems to be filled now a days with two types of people I've seen.

1. The pseudo-elitist jerks:
Whose replies and comments consist mainly of "TIESTO SUCKS" and other sarcastic comments. I know this, because I've been there, and unfortunately the internet makes it all too easy to be a jerk. There are also the kind of people who utterly ignore posts too, because it seems too below them. I've posted advice in even seemingly "dumb" threads. How else are youngn's going to learn?

2. Dumb Noobs:
There's noobs... who occasionally post something silly and old (which to them is new.) But they learn quickly the search feature. And are generally decent members. And then there's the dumb noobs, which are really more like trolls. And I can't stand them. They always ask the same question over and over again. They never seem to have anything positive to say. And the never EVER learn the search button. I should point out that most of these toolsheds end up finding their way to the COR and just stagnating there screaming "BBQ" and "ORLY." (although I'll admit to loving anything owl-related now)

So I do feel for Floorfiller (this is what he means by being nice: he posted a complete discog with pics of the gatecrasher series, even though I noobed it up by posting the request in the wrong section and I didn't use the search feature). I haven't been as active as long as many of the ta "old school" here. But I definitely get the feeling the MD gets more trite by the day. And like others had stated in this thread; it's not just MD that's affected. The DJ Booth suffers, production studio, music producer promotion... the list goes on.

I get this bad feeling sometimes that Tranceaddict is just become too saturated. It seems every other day some troll is spamming a new "OMGTRANCEMUSICWEBSITE" in one of the promotion forums.

I'm sick and tired of it too.

There. Those are my thoughts. Goodnight.

Amazing post ! I entirely agree... I'm not an elitist nor a noob, but I know exactly how you feel

I practically have left this place years ago. Left crap trance. I got the enlightenment with psy.

Nowadays I'm seldom (indeed) coming back, bitching about the current crap releases, dropping some very few suggestions and then disappearing again for a few weeks

Does that make me elitist?

I hope so!

I sympathize. I've been getting progressively more into Psy, and reading psynews.org more and more. But I haven't given hope on trance yet.

Haha don't worry, i'm not leavin. I find this place rather helpful. Like I said, i've met some great people on here too. For the one or two jerks, there are four or five nice people, like yourself. And yes, we both have a lot to say. It's nice that we offer a different angle to the scene and the music, not to say we are elists in this respect, but we just think differently than the average clubber or whoever. Like I said in my post, we all come from different backgrounds, different perspectives on life and music, and the music does something different to each one of us. This doesn't mean we all are right in our respect, but I would say that you and I are onto something with our perspectives (okay maybe that is a half-elitist comment hehe), it's true though....

Question...and this might SEEM biased or elitist (it's not though) but why do people seem to be getting more into psy? especially on here..it seems more and more people when they evolve they get into psy, but I'm getting more into progressive (well I always have been into it, not as much as epic, but i've been finding more in the prog catagory that appeals to me then in either the epic or psy trance stuff lately). But I do like some "progressive psy" I guess you can call it, esp Incolumis, "One With Sanctuary" is brilliant, hope there is more like that..the big booming bass and the acidy noises I hear a lot of in psy just doesn't appeal to me much...I prefer deep and spacey. I guess i'm interested in the psychology of it or what appeals to people with Psy trance...I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Psy, just what makes people like it...the scene itself seems really cool though, i'll give that to you. That might appeal to me, more so than the club scene....

Then only ppl who are concerned w/ learning about music, producing or DJing will frequent here.

I wouldn't call One with sanctuary prog psy. Proper prog psy is stuff like Son Kite, Antix, FREq, Yotopia, Phony Orphants etc.

Ok, I was just under the impression it was. What would you consider it? It's a bit different than other progressive, the bassline in particular is somewhat reminicient of some psy, but much deeper...slower..

Yea +1 for the more deep progressive end of Psy. Ticon, Cosma (can get tweaky and full on, but mostly dark and brooding), Atmos, Son Kite, Freq. That is the sort of psy I'm into. The full on stuff is fantastic in small doses (Astrix, 1200 Mics etc) and even the more commercially appealing "psy" i love and listen to (Infected Mushroom being the most obvious example.)

But yea. This is more a subject geared for a "psy" thread. But you wanted to know my thoughts on it. And there you go.

it's normal progressive trance, just with a different bassline. But it's not the style which you will find within prog psy.

Maybe half of them will leave, but the other half will probably just end up posting their nonsense in other subfora. I doubt that's a good thing.

Yeah this is the stuff I'de get into, but I just can't stand the really bangin' stuff that seems to go nowhere, with the big BOOMing bass and the squelching acidy noises that IMO are annoying. Maybe fine in small doses (haha) but to listen to a full set with that stuff would get on my nerves. If I wanted stuff like that i'de just listen to a techno set, without the acidy noises that get on my nerves lol. I just love music with emotion, atmosphere and spaciousness..deepness, because I am this way and think this way so I like music that connects with who I am as a person. I like stuff that is for your mind, your body and your soul hehe. Hence my signature...

these are the same people that rely on us to ID their unknown tracks, fill in their dj tracklists, give them new tune suggestions that are "spacey" or "vocal" or "chill"...

seriously why are we wasting our time? we all spend a lot of time researching music and finding tunes that we love...we should just stop sharing that with all of these people that are always bitching...

let's face it, those that actually have a genuine interest in talking about music around here are sadly in the minority. i don't remember the last time i actually got a decent answer or good suggestion on this board...i can't remember the last time i found out about a tune on TA that i hadn't already known about...and when i do it's always the same ten people coming through with great sugestions. meanwhile we are excited to share music tastes and ideas with each other just so people with little radio shows can lurk and snatch up some good tracks that we suggest for their show next week.

it's just a bunch of crap. i mean we've already lost the TA battle to a bunch of people that are either promoting their average new tune or their cookie cutter radio show...and those that are just getting into the genre and think they know everything...

it sucks the most for those people that actually appreciate the suggestions of the TA "elitists" and want to expand their personal taste, but unfortunately the majority is ruining it for those people...

but really...lets keep our knowledge and opinions to ourselves. then where will TA be? it'll be a bunch of kids arguing about which tune on ASOT was the best that week, struggling to find new fresh music, wanting to know what that tune that dj played on that radio show was, and wishing they could get some suggestions for some "classics"...

we've tried our best to keep this site full of info, but we've lost...it's not our problem anymore.

oh no please don't leave us you're just so awesome

Now there's a line you've never used before.

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Mar-03-2006 18:13:

I for one have learned a lot about music from TAs. Two years ago I had never heard of Nick Warren... I mean, how noob is that? Now I love his stuff.

Point is, I'm grateful to everyone who's ever offered me a suggestion, whether I liked it or not, and if I ask a stupid question sometime, it's because I genuinely don't know and want to learn. EDM is still a fairly new genre to me, so I don't think it's possible for me to contribute the thoughtful posts that some more experienced TAs can.

I understand it's frustrating that so many people ask stupid questions. That's the nature of the genre, especially here in the United States: it's relatively new and the mainstream public doesn't have a real large knowledge-base of it.

But without the 'elitists' as FF terms them, I don't think I'd know anything about EDM at all, and I'd probably be sitting in a dark room somewhere listening to emo 24/7. So thank you, for saving me from that fate.

If you can't grasp what's being discussed in this thread don't even bother to post. Sometimes it's a VERY good idea to read more than just the first f'in post.

Some troll. I've seen him being a turd-burgler in other threads. He's a waste of kilobytes on Swamper's server if you ask me. Most his posts are negative and rude.
