Commonly known as Trouse Charlee.

See Matthew Dekay for more detail

Oh you are all so attentive! Jules I will be sure to head to the main room tonight for a first class tutorial

What on earth is a trouse? It sounds like a fish!

I disagree. I think if anyone comes on to these forums and sees 'trance is dead, it was waaaay better in x year', they might look up the old stuff and realise that trance used to be insanely excellent, and hang out like me for the time when trance will be good again! I believe that for alot of people, if they think the ASOT etc stuff is all there is to trance, they might just walk away from pursuing an interest in trance.

I only heard my first trance set in late 2002 and I most certainly do not call myself a 'tranceaddict' cos of anything put out since then, it's definitley the old skool stuff that has me hooked on trance.

To me, trance has lost its underground appeal and hence its roots. There was a time when it was about proudly getting fucked off your face and engaging in an alternative movement. Now its all about packing out an uber club, signing massif ch00ns to your label and gaining status as a DJ/producer. Also, generally the music isnt as experimental as it once was and the cuture just seems to be getting more mainstream.

Cry's of "get rid of the drugs, get in more titties and booze" only serve to re-enforce this.

The gap will widen I think until you'll have manstream club trance which will be closer towards house and the more underground stuff which will be closer towards psy/techno. Generally the more experimental trance is already signed under psyprog labels anyway, so I think its already there, but the devolution of trance into a form of house has got some way to go.

I'm tipping that Jules might sound suspiciously like Steve Strangis at 1.30 in the main room

Trouse - Trance Fused House

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jan-13-2006 01:45:

housey trance = house intros and trancey middles (according to the vast wealth of genres definitions & understandings in my awesome knowledge base, lol).

its not as good as good ol 140bpm epic monsters, but infinitely better than any house tune ive heard ever.

Posted by Teflon_Teapot on Jan-13-2006 01:45:

i can only handle psy in small doses just like hard trance. i have really been getting into latin house with a more uplifting feel i downloaded an awesome mix but it is all in spanish.

Well, you know that three eyed fish in the simpsons. A once proud and sea faring marlin reduced to a bottom feeding abomonation by the twisted perversions of Mr Burns?

Well, the marlin is trance, and Mr Burns is house. Gettit?

I am said noobie and reading this thread does NOT make me want to go read all the house breaks forums. If anything it makes me want to get out there and help trance. It seems that trance has skipped a generation, as I think someone said earlier, and quite probably due to the clever marketing of house and that aspect of popular culture. But as far as I, and a lot of my 'next generation' 18 year old friends are concerned popular culture at the moment is a fucking laughing stock.

Dont worry guys I have a feeling that within the next few years the 'artists' are going to be making a comeback.

yes but you are an exception with exceptional taste obviously. I was referring to the crowd (that usually make up the numbers at most events) who just want to go with whatever everyone else is into.

I love trance and I think it will come out stronger in the next couple of years.

Then they wouldn't be reading trance addict. They are just there cos everyone else is, they have no interest in the music.

And that's exactly what was prevalent to my eyes at Pyramid Rock Festival new years eve. The music was horrible, electronic wise I mean, and nobody seemed to care, because they were there for the party, not the music. As long as it had some kind of beat that they could 'dirty dance' to and hopefully 'score with all the chicks' they were in muzza heaven.

I guess what I think would be bad about trance becomming more mainstream is that these kind of people would be there ruining it. It needs to have some element of and underground feel otherwise it is just over marketed dribble. The reason I love alternative forms of music so much is most likely because I'm a pretentious prick and it makes me feel more elite :P. Oh and yeah the music too... yeah woo for music.

Well it seems like the Melbourne trance massive stood up last night. Altitude had a massive night for the final installment of Deliverance with 300+ fronting up and from what i read Obsession pulled off yet a another big room event with qulaity local dj's.

Now all we need to do is try and not clash and perhaps we can double the number of people at these events really get things going again.

Good work to the people in charge of both bashes

don't always believe what you read though

maybe that's the way the whole popularity thing works. it could be cyclical. If trance goes more underground now, it might start to attract those after an underground night out that isn't full of people there to just get hammered without appreciation for the music. Maybe this lapse is a phase that trance needs in Australia.. if you build it back up with an underground theme (as long as production is there!) then i reckon it'd pick up in popularity again..

thoughts?

I totally agree. I think that's exactly what needs to happen to revitalise a scene. Instead of 'pushing it' on the popular culture who will just think "nah trance is dead house is the cool thing now", or even worse won't even notice that the music is different, it needs to be brought back into an underground context. Although you're also right in that if there isnt any producers, it's just not going to happen.

I have faith though.
