This fresh one beats all the previous freshness you've provided. I've never seen this guy live. I know he played with Picotto about 2 years ago at the Guv. How is Liebing live....anyone know?

Posted by Skipper on Apr-05-2006 01:40:

I quite liked him at guv a few years back. He played with Parisio as well. it was a good night.

I've downloaded other sets of his since then and haven't been into them as much.

How has he changed in your opinion?

I've probably seen Liebing about 8 times now and the best sets were about 2-3 years ago for my own tastes. He is a fun dj to watch for sure, perma-smile the whole time and he interacts with the crowd quite a bit - which I should add is probably made more possible with his use of ableton and such these days... less time mixing, more time waving.

He also likes to burn Js during his set, he's used little lights at aria to seek out people in the front smoking joints to pass it up to him... The past few times at Aria I've rolled some before seeing him in anticipation of passing him one during his set... hehe

When he played Swirl last year between Christopher Lawrence and Armin he practically stole the show.. he had the place going nuts.. I think everyone should try to see him once anyway, even if techno is not usually your thing... great showman!

Black music and the sounds of Japan will top the bill of Snar 2006

The thirteenth Snar festival will take place on 15, 16 and 17 of June.

The Snar 2006 line up is heavily influenced by a tribute to black music culture, which has had such an extensive influence on the development of electronic music. Reggae, dub, hip-hop, jazz, funk and disco music will be represented on the festival's various stages by classic acts including the Digable Planets, Linton Kwesi Johnson & the Dennis Bovell Dub Band and CHIC feat. Nile Rodgers, and current performers including Fat Freddys Drop, Pete Philly & Perquisite, Bus feat. MC SOOM-T, Jeff Mills, Kenny Dope, Ugly Duckling, Jake The Rapper and Gilles Peterson, to mention just a few.

The sounds of Japan, one of the most fertile, neglected and complex scenes in today's electronic music, are one of this year's reference genres. The SonarComplex stage will be almost exclusively given over to them - watch out for live performances by Yanagisawa Marina, Horio Kanta, Hawai Taeji, Doravideo, Optrum, Nobukazu Takemura and Softpad - but their extensive participation does not end with Snar by Day and they will also be a central feature of the night-time schedules.

Nightmares on Wax will offer one of the most eagerly awaited concerts in Snar by Night, with In a Space Outta Sound, their fifth LP, operating at full capacity. Other important performances at Snar by Night will be those by Rahzel & DJ JS-One, Ryoji Ikeda, Herbert & Dani Siciliano, Infadels, Goldfrapp, Isole, The MFA, Tiga, Superthriller, DJ Krush, Afra & The Incredible Beatbox Band, Diplo + A-Track, Sasha and DJ Vadims One Self.

LAuditori de Barcelona will host an exceptional event for the fourth consecutive year. Carsten Nicolai - better known as Alva Noto - and Ryuichi Sakamoto will give a live performance of their acclaimed Insen, the sequel to the equally well-received Vrioon, in which the sensitivity of piano melodies and the abstraction of minimal electronica converge in a highly unusual way.

SonarMtica, the festival's multimedia area, completes this year the trilogy of projects based around the concept of territory in the modern world, with an exhibition focusing on the most lively and significant art scene using new media: mobile culture and location projects.

Once again this year, Sonar by Day will be using its regular stages, SonarVillage, SonarComplex, Sonarama and the Hall stage; and its other classic exhibition and disclosure areas, SonarCinema, Conferences and Debates, and SonarMtica.

This year, one of the most well-known daytime stages is being moved to the night-time schedule. The SonarLab programme will take place in the Montjuc 2 venue.

As it does every year, Snar by Day will review the latest trends in electronica, advanced rock, electro, hip-hop, electronic pop, digital concretism, electronic folk and experimental jazz, with names including Liars, Shit And Shine, Seeland, Pole & Band, Eliot Lipp, Birdy Nam Nam, Phoenecia, Kimmo Pohjonen, Kapitalband, The Considerate Builders Scheme, Radicalfashion and Hifana.

Labels including Stating Caravan (US), Kindred Spirits (NL), Mosz (AT), Combination (DE), Plop (JP), Capsule (UK), Schematic (DE), Spectral Sound (US), ~Scape (DE), Hefty (US) and New Sonic Performance (JP) will take centre stage at the showcases.

Aside from the ways Kate mentioned (using ableton, less mixing, more waving), I just grew tired of the popular hard techno being produced and played by the major techno DJs...it lost the funk I used to love about it.

I've wanted to check Liebing out for a while now...just haven't been able to for misc. reasons. Techno is my thing (one of 'em anyways)... and I'll remember to bring a fatty too when i finally do get to see him live.

I enjoy a good showman/woman behind the decks. For me, it just ads to the vibe so much more. I like to be cutting a rug, and take a peek up at the DJ every once in a while... keeps me on the right wave length I need to be at for the duration of the set.

I'm not surprised!
At many European festivals they have multiple stages and a lot of bands and stuff usually perform as well... like at Exit Fest last year in Serbia they had Cypress Hill.
For a festival that size it's a nice added element I think.. but ya seems a bit out of place with the rest.
