I can't believe what a noob that Totti is! he knows the penalty isnt right, but when he scores, he celebrates it like he scored a beautiful goal. And his thumb in his mouth?? Why? to show that he sucks cock in the dressroom??

Always the lucky italians in the last minute, its a fukn disaster. IT even looks like a corrupt referree imo!

On tv, it looked like grosso had taken a dive but the referee doesnt have the option to see it in slow motion and this was a tough one to call. Lucal neil went for the tackle early and didnt get the ball which went against him. In any case, as dirty as Italy are deemed to be playing, one cant deny the fact they have the worst luck when it comes to world cups. Getting robbed by bad refereeing the last time and going out on PK's on 2 previous occasions so you cant help but think they deserve a bit of good fortune to come their way.

argentina has been robbed on several occassions also. hell, the US was robbed in their last game against ghanna. this happens to everybody.

the brits hate us (argentina) for the maradona's 'hand of god' goal. and rightly so, the ref let it go, because from the ref's angle it looked like a header, not 'mano' -hand in english. but one can argue that this is payback for the british did to argentina in the '66 WC in the knock out stage where a brit defender hugged 'tarzan'-the argentine goaly to prevent him from blocking englands shot on the goal. england got a way with it. england won the game 1-0 and ended up winning the WC.

in the end, i don't like or agree w/the idea of karma settling the score somewhere down the line. how many times do you have to get screwed over by the calls the ref makes, or doesn't make, before you get something to go your way? pure luck over a teams skill, and ability to win a game? that just plain sucks. sure everyone deserves good fortune, but what ever happened to just playing the game the best way you can, instead of being a cop out like italy was in this game? plus, everytime italy has been robbed, i don't australia had anything to do w/it. -correct me if i'm wrong, because i don't remember all these things off the top of my head.

what happened today is not justice in my book. the example between argentina and england, ok... but not this game. i don't think anybody in australia will accept the idea of poor italy finally got the justice they were owed, and they diserve to advance at australia's expense. australia came to play. they came to try win their first WC, not do italy any favors.

unfortuantely, sepp blatter made a point to NOT allow new technology such as instant replay. he justified by saying that football needs that "human touch/factor". i can't remember his exact words, but that's pretty much what he said, plain and simple.

i take this as his way of endorsing corruption, gross negligence, incompetence, and to a lesser extent honest mistakes on the part of ref's. sportsmanship, and the whole idea of "may the best team win" is now and will continue to be worthless.

i for one would love to see FIFA take necessary steps to make games fair. personally, i'm sick of referee's having way too much discresion in writing history. not just in the WC but in regular games as well. it feels cheap to see my team or any team win w/the help of the ref whether it's intentional or not. it also hurts that much more to see you team loose the game because of the ref. all of can identify w/this, no doubt. i'm also sick of trying to calculate the "ref factor" in to every game i watch. check this out -i belive argentina CAN beat germany in their next game... but will the ref allow that to happen? sure it's possible for germany to win fair and square, they're a great team too. but are we (fans/the teams) gonna get a fair and square game. honestly, i don't think so. i hope i'm wrong.

refs should see this as a tool to help them keep the games fair and under proper control, and to correct an error because they had a bad angle when questionable play occurs. to protect sprotsmanship, and the idea of "may the best team win"... but that would hinder FIFA's ability to run the games like WWF runs their soap opera.

sometimes i hate being an idealist... it's pretty stressfull sometimes. =-(

End of the day, lucas neil has stopped grosso progressing any further in the box without going anywhere near the ball, most pundits on the tv have said it was a penalty if a little soft.

It's amazing the way everyone jumps on the bandwagon to bash italy, and yet it's pretty much the same situation as the ghana penalty, in fact the ghana penalty vs the usa was even less of a penalty, and yet ghana are a plucky, determinded team, wheras italy, who held out for a whole half with 10 men are cheats. Double standards?

Grosso done the right thing, italy were facing another 30 minutes of football with a man down, show me a player who wouldn't have gone down in this situation.

And it's amazing to see an argentina fan call anyone cheats

yeah, see thats the important part for me. the fvcker definitely dived, but if you slide along the ground and dont make contact with the ball youre putting yourself in a dodgy situation.

Its widely kown that Italians and Argentinians have played this type of soccer, but its the mare truth. Its just nasty to see a team win like that in this phase of the championship. I just hope Italy looses next round, cheaters dont deserve crap.

you know that Totti became father a few months ago, and he always put the thumb in his mouth when scored for Roma to dedicate his success to his fellow. poor child, what a shame on his father.
also I must add that australian didn't went on score as much as italy did, but I cannot say that italy deserved to win even they created more goal occasions but if they aren't good enough to score in a decent, honest, fair way; they should come back home. I'm waiting for them @ the airport

I've been saying for years that football needs a citing system that is already in place for other sports. Referees simply cannot always identify a dive, even those that are obvious when viewed in slow motion or from another angle. Players actively practise diving to make it look real.
Put in place a match review committee with powers to suspend players who cheat in this way.
Would he have gone down like this to progress his side if he knew he would be suspended for the rest of the tournament? Maybe in the 90th minute with not that much to lose, but it would cut down the problem overall.

Italy should get banned from football.
