So, other than Uncharted - what should I even bother playing?

I totally despise Resistance: Fall of Man.

You no like Resistooonce? Well, if you didnt dig Halo, Resistance wouldnt change your mind either. I love it, but everyone has their own taste.

For starters, try out Heavenly Sword and Warhawk. The former is a God of War-like game that has beautiful graphics and a sweet-ass fighting system. Owners of the game, however, complain that its a little short (so you may just wanna rent it). Warhawk is just insane from what I hear. Total online chaos using land, sea, or air vehicles, or you can just go at it on foot. Comparable to the Battlefield games, only better from what the reviews indicate.

If you are into RPG's, you may wanna at least rent Folklore, the game scored a 9.0 on IGN, so I'm guessing its at least of somewhat quality. If you never played Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, try out Ninja Gaiden Sigma, absolute blast. Motorstorm is a classic and will no doubt be among the new Playstation franchises that are created this generation. Just be sure you enjoy racing games. Also, you can download Gran Turismo HD off the PS Store Network completely FREE. Kickass game, and its replayable since you can beat old records and what not.

Ratchet and Clank is good, mindless fun as well. Also, be sure to browse that Playstation Store, because there are some real treats on there, such as Everyday Shooter, Tekken HD, and Super Stardust HD. They arent free though, but you CAN download a demo of Stardust if you wanna give it a test run.

All that right there will probably break your wallet, so Ill stop there. Thats probably the best the PS3 has to offer anyway. Enjoy your purchase, I'm sure you'll have a blast with it.

I'm bored as a bitch, so why not post random news tidbits...

Resistance 2 is set for November 2008. 60, thats right, SIXTY person multiplayer has been confirmed, with 8 player co-op. Sounds a bit crazy. Some of the images are glorious.

Edit: just realized the below screen cap is the first Resistance. Still looks pretty though, doesn't it?

Then we have MotorStorm 2, sequel to 2007's awesome off-road racer that eventually became packaged with 60GB PS3's (and still is, however I believe they will be phasing this bundle out to prep for the MGS4 bundle coming in June)

I can't find any screenshots, but apparently this time around the game will NOT just take place on dirt, but also in tropical environments and such.

Then there's the almighty, controversial Killzone 2, and I say that only because of the original claims that the very first E3 2005 trailer was 'in-game', when later it was revealed that it was pre-rendered. Still, the game has ALREADY accumulated some awards for its impressive art design and amazing visuals, and I'm betting this game will improve upon the very-mediocre original.

- LittleBigPlanet is soon beginning BETA testing, hopefully ready for its original September 2008 release. This just might be the most anticipated game of the year. Or at least very fucking close.

- Rumors abound are suggesting that Sony and Konami will be jointly releasing an MGS4 + hard drive bundle perhaps weeks after the game hits store shelves. People are hinting that, like Devil May Cry 4, the game will require an installation that may take up quite a bit of space. Being an owner of a pultry 20GB PS3, I hope this rumor is NOT true.

- Recent interviews with Square Enix have suggested that they are near guaranteeing a 2008 release date for Final Fantasy XIII. Final Fantasy XIII Versus, however, will not be striking until 2009. Both are, as of now, PS3 exclusive, and due to intense CG cut-scenes, will likely stay that way due to lack of storage space on a DVD.

- SOCOM Confrontation will be online-only. Meaning it must be purchases via PSN. This was recently revealed on PS3Fanboy from a 'undisclosed' source. A more realistic prediction is that it will be released on BOTH PSN and Blu-Ray disc.

- A new PS3 exclusive head-set is releasing in the coming months. Surprising considering Warhawk bundled a completely separate bluetooth headset of its own. This one is said to be of higher quality. Not sure if it will be compatible with cell phones and the like.

I wouldn't waste my time making this up, the video game industry fascinates me so this is all random shit I've accumulated through the past month or so. Probably pretty easy to find backup on this stuff if you want confirmation.

I heard about this. Sounds like some good stuff. Sony is trying to pump some more blood in the 'multimedia' aspect of the PSP.

I dont think people buy those things JUST to watch the movie on PSP. It's kinda like an added feature that CAN be used if people who happen to own all of those three desire to do so.

Plus an iPhone isn't much cheaper than all of those combined.

20GB = Backwards compatibility, hardware emulation

40GB = NO Backwards compatibility

60GB = Backwards compatibility, hardware emulation

80GB = Backwards compatibility, software emulation, meaning less games work than 20 and 60GB.

Upcoming 80GB = Backwards compatibility, software emulation, same as above.

PSUK Magazine recently confirmed that LittleBigPlanet and KillZone 2 are hitting in September in Europe. Chances are the North American release date will land around there as well. In addition, 1UP is reporting a September release for SOCOM: Confrontration as well.

PSUK also reported Resistance 2 for November.

With Gran Turismo 5 in April (out now in EU), Metal Gear Solid 4 in June, plus the above mentioned, in addition to the possible chance of FFXIII slipping in during Nov. as well (with a very good chance of MotorStorm 2 launching right around the same time frame), looks like it'll be a big year for PS3. Let us not forget GTA4 as well.

Posted by CONNERMAN2000 on Mar-27-2008 21:21:

Guerilla Games announced today to take the September release date of KillZone 2 "with a grain of salt." Meaning nothing is confirmed until THEY announce the release date.

Polyphony Digital also announced that the FULL version of Gran Turismo 5 is "still a year away." For those of you confused, the GT5 hitting next month is called Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, meaning it's basically a very long demo of the full version of the game. It all depends on how hardcore you are with the game, do you want to buy the game twice or just wait until 2009?

Posted by CONNERMAN2000 on Apr-16-2008 02:51:

Firmware Update 2.30 made it out, meaning a complete redesign of the Playstation Store. I didn't really check it out all that much, but I'll tell you, the Store is easily 20X better than before. Much easier to navigate, less of a pain in the ass. For those of you that complained about the Store's sloppy design, your prayers have been answered.

Posted by CONNERMAN2000 on Apr-25-2008 01:14:

Everyone with a PS3 or PSP, get on the PS Store right now and download Echochrome. What a mindfuck of a game.

I'm still trying to figure out how to control the guy's jumping, but still, when creative shit like this gets released, its always worth checking out amid the onslaught of cloned FPS's and sports titles with the year changed and nothing more.

Its pretty funny reading this whole thread in the present. The proof is certianly in the pudding IMHO.

Anyway, I've heard Warhawk mentioned a couple times. It is indeed sick and is my favorite game. I bought it on disk when it first came out to get the headset and then my PS3 was stolen (along with my 56" Samsung DLP). Warhawk was the only game that I bought twice for a while (I recently bought Assasin's Creed again and will probably by R6V again to beat it before getting the new one). Warhawk still gets the most game play from me. Although I am sure it will dip down after Tuesday (woo! GTAIV!)

Anyway, if anyone wants to find me online PSN is trancid.

It really doesn't matter how well a console performs, just as long as it has some value on its own. And I think the PS3 does, with it's kickass Blu-ray player, now revamped online marketplace, a slew of quality titles, an even bigger batch of even better-quality titles on the horizon, and price drops galore.

The argument earlier in this thread was during a time when everyone wanted to argue, because that is exactly what happens when new consoles get launched. Two consoles launching in the same month leads to some pretty exciting and interesting gaming news that gets everyone amped to talk about whats going to happen in the new generation. Everybody wants to debate which is going to do that, and what is going to do this. In the end, the Wii absolutely devastated everything and the PS3 is slowly but surely catching up to the 360 (and eventually probably will)

I have yet to play Warhawk, which is a pity since I absolutely loved the original on PSone. I hear its a total blast, once I get some money I'll download that sucker.

Have sex with it. This week its getting 4 demos. Download some free demos, buy Warhawk and GT5:P off the PSN store. Also get Uncharted and Resistance from retail, two of the best next gen games.

True BUT...

the former has pretty much no replay value. It's fun as hell to play... but playing it on a harder difficulty to unlock an even higher one (and some costumes and art, in the meanwhile) isn't particularly great content.

the latter has fairly weak online play (not to par with the other FPSs out on both PS3 & 360).

Personally, I'd say rent both before purchase.

Posted by RJT on May-03-2008 18:55:

Resistance as best of anything besides "best of the shitty next gen FPS" is laughable.

One of the worst games I've had the displeasure of playing through.

NOTE: One of the best next gen games FOR PS3. Haha... Not comparing to Wii/360.

That's a pretty tall order considering the amount of shit content out there, especially with the onslaught of complete half-ass Wii games that pitifully try to replicate the success of games such as Wii Sports and hope to cash-in on the Wii craze that has consumed the world.

Resistance was nothing overly mindblowing, nor was it entirely original, but I thought it tied together a lot of what I like in an FPS. Considering you aren't that big of a fan of most FPS games in the first place (let Halo be a prime example, though your reasons are more than acceptable and I agree with almost all of them), I'm not entirely surprised Resistance wasn't your cup of tea.

Still, I'm a little surprised the chaotic-as-all-hell 32 player online modes didn't interest you. And I thought the game had a very 'clean' feel that made everything seemed polished and complete. Maybe I'm biased because this was my first (and still ONLY) PS3 game and I practically forced myself to love it considering I spent over $500 to play it.

Whoa-whoa-whoa, who said I don't like FPS?!?!? I love them, I just don't like blande, generic, "I've-seen-all-this-shit-before", accessible, lame duck FPS on the market. Bioshock was a great FPS, Resistance was a great POS.

The whole Wii debate has absolutely nothing to do with this either, I'll be the first to acknowledge how shit 90% of the catalog for that system is.

Resistance was not only a bland looking, run-of-the-mill FPS with a story that on first glance was "Huh, could be neat" but upon further inspection played out about as well as the recent Area 51 release. It's multi-player was nothing that other games haven't done far better for years, and the only reason it was reviewed as highly as it was is because it was one of the only first generation PS3 games that was worth a pinch of shit at all.
