Toronto winter is bad but honestly the first time I would have expected the winter to be a lot worse than it actually is in Toronto. With Lake Ontariao right there in Toronto down, I thought the wind chills would be freezing.
We really freeze out because of the lake here in Rochester. Usually the wind chills are lot more annoying than the winter or the snow itself. They are just brutal. Toronto however is not as bad as I had imagine.
Omg except for that night - Together As One.
Stepping out of the Docks for a smoke was probably amongst the most fuckall decision I have made....

Just got home from work. Hadnt really been outside all night. I went to go to my car and to my surprise, a 3/8 of an inch thick sheet of ice was all over the place, and my car!
I had to go back into the shop, and grab a broom handle, wrap it in rags, and literally BEAT my car with it just to break off the ice and open my door. Then I drove it into the shop where it thawed off for about 20 minutes so I could chisel the rest of it off.
The whole neighbourhood is crystalized. Remindes me of that Ice Storm back in the 90's in Quebec.
This is some fucked up weather. From snowflakes the size of my head and drifts 2 feet deep when I left for work, to a ice land from hail and freezing rain when I get off.

Guelph Uni stayed closed today..... im going back to bed.
edit: I just ran upstairs to check... there is a little ice on the small tree branches.. but none on the roads really (and our road never gets cleared) and all the eavestrophs are dripping.... so everything is melting.

| Originally posted by Jeff Button it's raining outside, fuck. i live in dundas, and drove to etobicoke this morning - it took the same amount of time as a dry, normal day. people are so quick to jump the gun on the 'don't drive or work if you don't have to' and the result is HALF of my office will likely not show (and most of those only like 20km at the most away). people - it's not bad... it's wet. suck it up, put your fucking slickers on, go to work, and seriously for the love of god STFU. |

http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_8377.aspx Massive Winter Storm Cuts Path Of Destruction Through GTA Friday March 2, 2007 A massive winter storm that blew through the GTA over the past 24 hours is all but over, but its effects will be felt all day Friday. The snow and ice storm has caused school and bus closures, train and flight delays and cancellations, downed power lines, and left the streets a flooded, sloppy mess. The morning commute is going to be a tricky one, as the snow and ice mix has begun to melt, turning some roads into lakes. At least 200 accidents were reported by police overnight and it's expected they'll be called to many more on Friday. Drivers are urged to leave early and plan for a much longer than normal trip. The snow ploughs and salters have been out all night trying to clear streets. The sidewalks are hazardous too, with puddles of water collecting on icy patches. A light rain is still falling across the GTA but it'll end mid-morning, giving way to two more centimetres of wet snow in the afternoon. Heavy ice clinging to tree branches is causing them to break under the weight, coming down on power lines and bringing them crashing to the street. Lines are down across the city including one that caught fire at Dundas and Ossington. Hydro crews are being overwhelmed by the number or reports, with areas affected including Woodbine and Gerrard, Kingston Rd. and Lawrence, Mount Pleasant and Lawrence, and parts of Thornhill, Keswick and Stouffville. Anyone that sees a downed power line is urged to stay away. So many are down, the city has issued a plea for you to stay home if you can and be extra careful if you can't. In the Toronto area - report downed or damaged wires as soon as possible to 416-542-8000. Outside Toronto, Hydro One customers are asked to call 1-800-434-1235 to report power outages and downed lines. |

In my opinion it is much safer staying home than driving in these conditions, you can do what you want. some news to read if you're bored |

Yesterday, I decided to continue at the office instead of leaving early, and glad I did.
EVERYONE left early... I heard nightmares this morning from coworkers on their drive home.
I left after 6pm, and drove 23km from Markham to Aurora in 40 minutes, just 10 minutes longer than usual. Everyone should have just waited it out.
Some of you know that I am an active voice when it comes to winter tires, and the uselessness of all-seasons in the winter.
I helped this poor bastard this morning out of his car, when he lost control and rolled over into the ditch. This all happened to him about 10 car lengths in front of me. He was OK. His airbag deployed and he was wearing his seatbelt. He was very confused, in shock I guess, he couldn't open his door, but his power window worked, and helped him out. He's perfectly fine, just sounded very confused. After 15min he got his rationality back after his cigarette. Notice the all-seasons he has on.

| Originally posted by Jeff Button You have the same paranoid attitude as those who look to blame 'bad' weather as an excuse to get a day off. Yeah, everything is covered in ice in Dundas as well. It's 3 degrees outside, and raining, and everything is melting (incase you hadn't noticed). All I'm saying is the media builds things up to make you think it's a fucking warzone outside which builds the mentality of most people to use that as an excuse. 'Oh the weather man told me I shouldn't go to work!' - fuck that. |
