I felt the urge to puke my guts out after reading that quote.
I personally don't slobber over Tiesto but I definately respect the man. I guarantee no one in this thread can even come close to accomplishing 5% of what he has.

PVD appearing in a Motorola advert.
It made me cringe every time I saw it. It wasn't the cause of death, but the autopsy report has shown that it weakened trance by 0.001% every time it was aired.

| Originally posted by AndreaCKY772 +1 yeah, i don't fuss over tiesto either but i do respect him. i don't feel comfortable talking trash/bashing him because he has done plenty (whether you agree or disagree...he has in impact on many of his listeners). as much as a lot of vocal pop edm tunes can grate my nerves, i don't have to listen to all of his music and be his number one fan, but i definitely won't trash on him. and i never got the big deal with pvd at all...i don't know if i'm the only one. to each his own, but i don't see why he was a big dj. edit: imagine the edm scene where the djs/producers did NOT put their names on the tracks and did not put their faces on their albums, so all we know is the title of the track, but not the person who came up with the track. 3 years later after we rave/hate the track, they tell us who made what track. i'd LOVE it, love it love it. then i can come on here and find out just who happened to like what track and die laughing if it was someone they disliked. of course that fantasy would never happen... |

You should treat all releases equally, which means it doesn't matter how many good things the artist has put out, if the release is shit, it's shit. Same goes for dj'ing, if a dj set is shit, it is shit no matter who the dj is. That's my 0.02 $ As regards to the second part of your post, yeah it would be really interesting! Hehe... |

| Originally posted by Atmos Well for one...Tiesto introduced many many people to trance. You hear a song like adagio or traffic, and you search his name and come up with other songs. You see one song remixed by another artist and you search him. Just like that, a persons trance and EDM knowledge exapands and so does the taste. You don't start out listening to fucking Bart Claessen because simply not too many people know him. Also, yea what you said about being allowed to criticize is true...you have your right and are entitled to your own opinion. But you would be a shit-faced liar and a dishonorable man if you negated having some sort of respect for a man of his caliber and accomplishments. |
Ocean Lab - Satellite
that was the end of it all

No. So everyone who don't really understand why Tisto somehow deserves more respect than everyone else is a shit-faced liar? I never said you shouldn't respect him at all, i do respect him for some things, but i don't insist on him being the "god of Trance" or the "best DJ in the world" like A FUCKING LOT of people do. |

| Originally posted by AndreaCKY772 thank you for your input. of course everyone has a right to be criticized, i'm just saying i'm not going to bash him and automatically yell out "tiesto sucks!" whenever i see his name. i feel that he has done plenty and caused massive impact in the edm world as a whole and partly because of that, i have a level of repsect for him. i can see why some people don't like him and i don't like a lot of the poppy vocal stuff he puts out, but part of the reason why i said i won't talk trash about him is because i think out his entire career, not just his more mainstream pop stuff. it might be the music composer in me that is behind this reason, but this is how i feel. i give him credit for actually composing or at least SOME composing behind his works. i think there are WAY too many other people out there DISGUISING themselves as recording ARTISTS that are getting away with FAAAAAAAAAR worse than what many people on here think of him and other djs right now. not there are songs of his i don't like but i don't go on these boards and talk so much trash about him and beating the issue to death over it. and hey, i hate a lot of mainstream stuff but if i find something that i like that is mainstream, i'm not going to dismiss it because it's mainstream, i'm going to listen to it because it's a peice of music i happen to like) everyone has their opinions...some people don't like him, some people like him, some people are nonchalant about him. i don't know...sometimes it just feels SOME people (NOT ALL, for readers who are about to attack this post) jump on the "i hate him" bandwagon when they see others say they dislike a dj and it just starts to get old after a while. people have a right to say whatever they want and have opinions on whatever they want. i'm just saying i'm not going to bash him in a negative manner. sure, i have criticisms for him and other djs but i have more respect for him than a lot of the other people i dislike as djs or recording "artists". now i'm not saying if you hate a dj like tiesto, etc, you are "jealous and hating". that is not a valid reason it is an obnoxious reason, and it's too easy to come up with that type of response. i'm just saying i feel that SOME people are dismissing certain djs in edm because of OTHER people's opinions and how popular the dj is. edit: indeed. |
I started listening to trance back in 1993/94. I grew up in a city where techno and house ruled, but you could still find breaks and a little trance. Given my pedigree I was fond of trance/prog/prog house. Fast forward to 1998-2000 and epic blew up big time. This is about the time that I really started to see a lack of quality releases and digression of the music itself. It was more and more watered down and you had fucksticks like Corsten/Tiesto/AVB/ATB/Darude coming out destroying what was once a good scene and proliferating shitty ass music that they pawned off as trance. I am sorry but there was nothing trancey about epic, and the same goes with prog for the most part. There was some influences in them that trance provided, but mainly they were more house than trance. None of the producers themselves are repsonsible for killing trance. They are responsible for affecting the masses and tricking them into thinking they were dancing to trance. So you have the stupid clubbers/candy kids all pilled out not having a clue wtf is up or down. It's a combination between money grubbers and stupid clubbers that gave legitimate trance music a bad name.
Having said that I will say that the only trance that exists right now is psy-trance. Nothing compares to it. I found it rather confusing as to why psy was barely even broached. It is the only legitimate genre of trance that has survived the bullshit that the EDM global scene has gone through. This is what keeps TRANCE alive. Now don't get me wrong psy-trance has gone through its growing pains as well. It is a very global music that has tried its best to stay in the underground. Unfortunately the ultra lareg festivals have taken the "mainstream" psy-trance to the shitter. So it has had to evolve where the progressive-psy and the dark/twisted-psy is where the most innovation is coming from. Yall might not agree, but you have two choices.....go club land or go to whats left of the underground.
^^^ what he said.
Trance is dead
no
Listhen to the new generation
Do you people want Trance to stay the same? No progression, no change, no creativeness, just stay the same? If that's what you want then don't bother following trance these days, because all you end up doing is talking badly about it. Stick to the old shit, be an old timer, and let the new generation get a chance. You are treating trance as a possession which you wish to manipulate, dont! Treat it as something meant to be...life is about evolution, and for those of you who claim that trance is your life and you love it...let it be and let it evolve.
Btw, I'm speaking to those who do nothing but talk shit about the trance that comes out these days. I'm speaking to those who can't let it go. And for those who allow the change to happen and accepting it if you like it, I give my upmost respect to you.
Evolution? Where?
God damn this discussion is still going on?
I mean it's just easy to say taht all music changes.
Fuck I wish 60's rock never changed but it did. Can't do anything about it. Not like Trance is the only music that's in the shitter right now. it's all evolution for fucks sake, stop being in denial and thnking up some hot shit philosophical explanation for why trance is the way it is now.
It all changes, rock changed, rap changed, everything changes with given time.
