Do you guys know if anymore Trance/progressive DJs are coming ; I really want to try and make this event

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Apr-09-2007 05:13:

I love how Freedom always brings out some good old dnb hate from the usual Guv crowd. *remembers last year's Freedom* Anyhoo, any Breaks DJs lined up? I remember last year the Ornage Room (Breaks) was the only thing that pulled me away from KH (dnb).

Posted by T_ALI on Apr-09-2007 06:08:

I don't hate dnb; I just think Trance/progressive is better.

...........also, I think we should stop this debate over which genre of EDM is the best because everyone has got their own taste/opinion and we should respect it.

And I'm sorry if I offended anyone in the past(^5 me@t k@tie, ravist)

I used to love DNB, but the DNB crowd was what got me off drum and bass

theres something about drum and bass that just seems to bring out the sketchiest people, especially all-ages DNB events

its a mix of like thugs and candy ravers, with a lot of normal people in between

E2EK1EL: Any more news on the DJs coming to this?

Meh. I could care less what they look like as long as they're into it. And they always are. If I wanted eyecandy, I'd plug my ears and go to TIL.

WOW YOU ARE SO WRONG DUDE!

meh i've been to some pretty fuckin sketchy raves in ottawa but i didnt give a fuck what they wore or looked like (and trust me, there were some FREAKS) but everyone was just givin the dance floor hell all throughout the night and that vibe (dnb/hardstyle/jungle) is different in my opinion from trance/house events - so again who cares what ppl are wearing like cosmic_fur said, they can look like vampires yet still rock it like they always do

please explain.....

yeah most of the people are cool/normal/nice at dnb, but the crowd overall is more 'rough' if you will, if you bump into someone at a house event you say sorry, they say thats ok, and then you go on

if the same thing happens at dnb, half the time you'll get some guy trying to act gangster and give you some dumbass attitude, threatening to kick your ass

just my opinion, but from my experiences, dnb does attract a sketchier/rougher crowd

most of the events i have been to were big theory or destiny events, havent been to n e of the dnb at footwork or n e thing

Posted by E2EK1EL on Apr-10-2007 06:13:

no idea who's coming so far

Posted by T_ALI on Apr-10-2007 10:38:

I hate all-ages events; Promoters should make all EDM events 19+, no exceptions

As much as I don't enjoy all age events now....I am just way to old for it....some of the best parties I've been to are all age events....the energy and PLUR that comes from the young crowd is unbelievable.

if or when? There's a big difference between what you are predisposed to think will happen and what will actually happen.

I've been to dnb events big and small, and never had a problem with anybody - if I bump into someone, I just look at them, smile, apologize, and I get the exact same response as I would at any other event (i.e. "no problem man").

I too thought that all these kids were gangsta and shit, but I went regardless cause I liked the music too much. It was only after I started going regularly that I realized that the Jungle (or dnb) crowds and the Hip-Hop crowds are totally different.

I think the key is how you act towards others, not how the others are. If you show respect, there's now ay they can pick a beef with you.

P.S. DNB events at FootWork are even better than at Docks - the atmosphere is much more intimate, everyone chills and chats with everybody, and the club rinses it out like no other.

There is a concert in the Koolhaus on the same day as Freedom, so I don't know how that's going to work out

Yeah..i forgot who it is..but someone was telling me that they loved the band/group who is playing in the KH..but the party is like at 6pm or something..

I think its Keane...no, it is Keane...

Posted by T_ALI on Apr-11-2007 01:33:

They're probably going to try and delay it till 10:30 before they let people in.

I've already made up my mind and have decided to go unless some amazing DJ comes to Toronto on the same night as Freedom

yeah true, i havent had any problems myself at DNB, i just fell there is just a more "gangsta" vibe with a portion of the people, but overall its always good times, seen some big fights at DNB but i guess that shit happens at the guv for house/trance events too

i think the biggest problem is just the all ages DNB crowd, well the all ages crowd just in general..... the fact that a 16 year old is out, say at the docks on a saturday night at 4am doing drugs says a lot about the kid, i know when i was 16 i was sitting in my friends basement drinking a few beers, but i grew up in nova scotia so i guess its a little different than over here hahaha, i barely even knew what DNB was until i moved here
