I agree with Mortyman,
He did an amazing job! He played a lot of great songs that was suited for the Guv.
Honestly, Menno kicks ass!
He chilled at my friends house the next day and he played a small set at her house. I was going to go but I had work early the next morning and it was already like 2am

What everyone has to bare in mind, which many of you seem to not think about, is that Menno has always wanted to play at the Guvernment! Now that he is here, and heard how fucking amazing the sound system is in that place, why the fuck wouldn't he want to drop bomb after bomb???? Pretty much all those tracks I heard him play, we're MEANT for kick-ass live soundsystem! If it was mine, or yours, first time ever playing at the Guv, wouldn't you want to drop all the tracks you've always wanted to hear on the Guv sound system too? Who gives a rats ass if his flow wasn't fully there, or that he played lots of tracks that many other DJ's play.... almost every track he dropped was made for that soundsystem! |
Late Review:
Overall I give him a thumbs up. Really energetic, looked like he loved every second of being on stage, played longer than he was supposed to, played a lot of really good trance tunes to get everyone going. He's a man that will exceed far in DJing and is just getting the drift of it now, watch out for this guy in the years to come.
I loved his track selection, a mixture of everything - vocals, proggy trance, some banging tech trance and even a few techno ch00ns!!!
BUUUUUUT if you're going to play such a variety - like said above, you need good good flow and I think he tried to "impress" us a bit since it was his first time in toronto/guv. There's nothing wrong with that, hell I'd try to impress guv too if I was an up and coming DJ playing at a world class club for the first time. I was not expecting him to drop banging tech trance or any techno at all and he kinda seemed weird sicne it wasnt the "real" menno I'd heard on previous sets, way more ligther.
Overall a great night, crowd was kinda pushy but i've had worse.

Great set. I can understand why some people can complain about the flow of his set, and although i partly agree, i could care less.
Its not often that we get to hear a set like that at guv, and i enjoyed it immensely. Awesome trance, bangin beginning to end, its what i expected, and Menno came through. really good party.

any word on that recording? or is this going to turn out like the "video" that was taken at resolution?
Does anyone remember the last 3 or 4 tracks Mark Oliver played starting around 12:45am - JUST before Menno came on?
There were a couple of AMAZING tracks that EVERYONE knows and loves, and I've been trying to identify them. One of them is this track Mark drops every once in a while. It sounds like a dog barking or coughing or something... lol. But it's followed by the sickest bass line.
Hope you can help a fellow out!
Peace.

That's exactly what it sounds like. I think you got it! Is it called Disco Demons? Any idea if there is a certain remix that Mark is playing?
I totally appreciate this man!

Mark seems to be playing that song by Spektrum a lot now too. The one that goes "... we all live and die." Those few tracks rocked Guvy and then Menno came on and gave a fantastic set.
It was an awesome night. Thanks again for helping out.
yeah good track

Menno is going to release the full set he played at Guvy. You'll find it on his website, but the best way to keep updated is to check his message board at http://www.mennodejong.com/forum/.
