I think we all understand the mandate of BeB.. again, it's a balancing act between keeping the underground essence alive and achieving the bottom line.. but from what many of us are saying of the lineup so far, the scale is tipping drastically the wrong way.

I'm sure we'll be repeating the same posts over the next two months, business vs underground, blah blah blah

The other hidden issue here is ticket sales.. BeB has to guarantee that they don't oversell tickets. It's not only about the ppl who don't get in but the ones who come there to dance and not play bumper cars all night. Bal would be wise to consider that aspect as well.

This BeB is going to go a long way in telling us if it's truly being run by greedy n00bs or otherwise

you people just consider too many stuff "commercial" or "not underground"
Im sure not even 1000 people will know who menno de jong is, or cedric gervais, and probably not 10% of the not gay guys will know who's offer nissim. (well maybe they will now since mc mario play his new track loll)

Bal en Blanc will prevent this situation from happening again, that's for sure.

thank Marie.. this is the only part of your quote we all need to see.. the rest is open to dispute

Oh and by the way, by booking such djs, im sure they're getting a lot more people INTO the scene than if they'd book any other dj. You guys are gonna tell me you started listening to techno/trance/house by listening to some underground wtfbbq dj?

Personally, I started listening and getting interested to trance because of TIESTO and im sure its the same for a LOT of people.

Stop bitching.

Edit : I actually started listening to techno because of D-Devils' 6th Gate, but its really Tiesto that got me into it for real

All I can say is Guetta better mash the hell up his tracks as I don't want it sounding like a giant nightclub in there.

If they don't know who Offer or Gervais are, then book Calderone or Chus & Ceballos .. because at the end of the day, it's the music (and crowd control, smirk) that's gonna leave the lasting impression. Those guys will also bring in the gay dollar, I'm sure (gay dollar is important because they have deep pockets and they started and heavily supported the whole house genre in the first place, along with - as Mtlnights pointed out - black ppl).

I am not pushing for an underground massive full of djs that you can find in the "who would you like to see in 2008" thread for example. I understand the business aspect, and my posts reflect that [ad nauseaum] .. however, the choice of some of these djs is questionable, regardless of whether we or talking sales or underground appeal. Bring in the cheese, bring in the wide appealing headliners, but don't forget the djs that will leave ppl saying, "wow, that Nic Fanciulli or whatever his name is guy was really good, I'll def check him out next time."

Well as far as trance goes, im seriously not sure that many people know who ferry corsten is. Out of 10 friends im going with, i think 4 knows him by name, 1 know what he plays..

So, i wont even talk about Menno De Jong, cause im sure even people into trance dont know how he plays that much. SO as far as the tech room is concerned, High Five

As for house, Guetta played at in more than one Sensation White this year.. i really dont get why you people are even scared its not gonna be good. The guy played in the freaking biggest dance event on earth.

HE EVEN PLAYED INSOMNIA ! lolll

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-11-2008 18:58:

Glad your not talking about trance in the house thread

Guetta's lame.. he's banged out hit after hit and he's been absolutely terrific for the bar scene but enough ppl on TA here (including myself) have seen him live to know he's not the type of dj that's gonna give u a buzz after listening to his set.

Agreed, but he's the dj that's probably gonna give the biggest buzz to all the club people that are not into the "music" but really just go there for the party. Guetta is gonna be the star of the night for all these people, and so, because of Guetta, some people might develop a deeper interest into house and than eventually be more concerned about the music and the djs. The scene is not as strong as it used to be, i think BEB is doing the right thing trying to attract new people into it and well, thats pretty much the only way to do so

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-11-2008 19:42:

well, I hope those ppl don't get their hopes up too high. I remember in 2006 so many ppl were anticipating a great set because of his club success, and were left disappointed.

My trancehead friend and I were like, "you know what? This guy kinda sucks" and then we left after half his set. I heard the rest sucked too, he dropped "Teen Spirit" or something?

Guetta brings ppl into BeB, but doesn't do anything to leave that buzz-worthy impression with anyone. Even with the n00bs too.

Well, everyone who i spoke to that went to see him @ Opera really enjoyed.. so.. i dunno. I personally hate what he plays but.. i guess some people love it..

Well im a laser grabber. I might stop grabbing laser while its IM tough. And surprisingly, i like Offer Nissim music A LOT !!! (No im not gay i dont like dicks and im not familiar with bare backing). And you know what, girls enjoy offer nissim music so much, so I hope im gonna catch him and enjoy the show. Dont watch the diva spinning, watch the divas dancing (and ignore the 6foot tall 200lbs 36D girl looking male)

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-11-2008 20:00:

I like his vids.. but then again, I'm a dirt McGurt

For me, the concern is more about the Gervais (unofficial so far)and Nissam bookings.. Guetta is a good choice for tix and for bringing in the 'rippers so I guess I can live with that.

Who knows, Benassi's been know to drop good sets occasionally, even though he's known mainly for his cheese, to use such an example. But after what I heard, my finger's are crossed.
