I agree line up was very long it took me 2.15 hours to reach the dance floor. To me that broke momentum and synergie and a lot is due from the fire departement controling the crowd so yes 15000+ but spread in the night insted of starting the party at the same time. Last year arrive around 1.30am very small line up was at 2am on the dance floor and both dance floor was jam pack was hard to move around put people was having fun like hell. The moment I was at one end on the gound floor I saw the line up was still has long from were I started that told me there was a problem. Only 2 poeple taking care of the ticket make no sense with the size of the crowd most have been a way to please the fire departement. My back was starting to kill me I'm sure I was not the only one.By the way at Black and Blue they have like 8/10 poeple taking care of ticket they manage well when they had crowd of 15/20000 at one time in 1999 and 2000 plus access to the seat like this year. No problem for space at the OLYMPIC STADIUM, ITS NICE TO BE AT DIFFRENT VENUE THOW.

Like both dance floor hard to choose. I really like the set of Menno De Jong fantastic the energie of his set wow, problem Calderone was playing on the other giving his best also.

Funny thought the stain glass was more in value in the house room.Thought the energie was more on the house side.

The three biggest rave in Montreal over 10000 poeple are all organise by gay poeple an open to all Black and Blue, Bal en Blanc and La Grande Danse.

At least the had the decency this year to open both end of the Palais Des Congres to access the washroom the flow was great so more time on the dance floor.

The only thing Palais has got on Bell is size, better food selection, and the option to ditch fluffy trance whenever you want to

Dancing space wise i wouldn't be too sure on choosing the Bell centre over the Palias... Sensation/Resolution proved to me that if you want to dance at the Bell Centre you find a spot/don't leave it/push anyone that tries to take your spot..its intense when there are so many people dancing at the Bell centre

I KNOW and for no reason, he's a nice guy who enjoys the music. I don't think people realized he passed his flag around for other people to wave, he wasn't doing that himself the whole time. He definitely was dancing...

Posted by SandSt0rm on Mar-26-2008 02:38:

Hehe true poor guy and yea he was actually nice in passing his flag. I asked him why did he bring the flags and hes like i love armin/ferry..i guess waving the flags was his way of showing his love...and he was dancing from time to time...owel poor guy lol..

i mean last year, they were denied entrance. and i don't think it was that bad. kinda interesting though, i stopped by at like 9pm to pick up my tickets and we were kinda laughing at the fact theres already a line up. come back at midnight and yeah.. so we waited 2h30m.

so bad. sucked big time. next time vip or 10pm. heh.

I guess this year you'd be denied for drug possession, but I didn't hear of them closing off the doors and issuing refunds for anyone else. Some ppl bought my ticket at 4am for the price I paid (no rebate) and they were at the BACK of the line. So they must have REALLY wanted to go!

next time VIP...hmmmmm...nah stay home!!

I think you're 100% right
would make sense

Was also thinking, maybe since Easter landed BEFORE exam period (normally mid-April), perhaps more of the 18-25 student crowd was able to attend this year, making it even worse.

waqars a good guy and he drew a fantastic portait of armin and presented to it to him when he came to Ottawa .. do you actually care that he had a flag with his favourite dj on it?
5htp kids..

Posted by zeKsg on Mar-26-2008 03:54:

Waqar is a good friend of mine, I am actually defending him on here. I was partying with him for 5 days. Driving from Toronto > Ottawa > Montreal. Btw that guy behind a wheel of a car is insane. When he drives it reminds me of that time I was in Istambul and got into a taxi.

Posted by 84th Ave. on Mar-26-2008 04:11:

funny reviews lol, here's mine:

got there at midnight and thank god my freinds were about 10 meters from the stairway going up and it still took us about an 1hr....feel bad for people at the starting of the line...last yr, i had VIP and took us the same time as the regulars, this yr was key i guess

Walked in and IM were playing, wow.....couple of hears back they were ok, with their PSY sounds being evident, heard 3 min this yr and wanted to commit suicide...sounded like really bad rock music (imo)

got in the house room, was already completely full, don't know where most of you guys were chilling but all i saw were hot girls everywhere (yes you had your crack heads etc). Was excited to see ferry so went as soon as he started

Ferry Corsten
he played a crazy set in June @ Circus and thought it was at least going to be par...his first 20 min or so was absolute shit, playing cheesy vocals and stuff, group of us decided to go to the house room....that up and down trance was way to early into the night, surprised, he really is a interactive musical trance DJ (not ur typical hands in the air for 1 hr straight DJ)

Cedric Gervais
only caught about 45 min of his set, but like most people i was really surprised, i thought he was going to play cheese as well, but really rocked to room, not the best set i've heard, but a good one to say the least

stayed in the house room for the next DJ for a bit, then went back to the trance room

Near the end of Ferry's set it was a little better, don't know, everyone is saying he was amazing, must have been when i wasn't there, towards the end he played alot of classics like Gouryella, really glad i got to hear the end of his set with EXHALE...only enjoyable Ferry moment (was one of my fav DJs, not my cup of tea anymore but happy alot of people enjoyed him and glad he got a big stage again)

Armin van Buuren
caught about a good 2.5 hrs of his set, was really surprised he played pretty decent, was expecting breakdown after breakdown but the time i was there played pretty hard, sound was off around his set (read that a speaker blew) but enjoyed it i guess, he played some house too always good in a trance set

...walked into the house room during Offer's set, heard a remix of Snap - Rhythm is a Dancer or one of those 90's dance anthems and decided to walk right out of there.... man this guy is absolutly horrid

decided to rest and get prepared for the only act worth waiting for: Victor Calderone

Victor Calderone
i knew i wasn't going to get disappointed, and i didn't. Pascal said it best, he owned BEB, too bad he wasn't earlier. Started off smooth and sexy and ended hard. Heard some great songs that I recognized, even for a late performance people were still dancing hard into his set. Only act where i was actually enjoying the music, great to hear Calderone again. Mixing was spot on, and for a 3 hr set, esp at the end, he built it perfectly. Saw him about 4 times already and he never disappoints. Was better then the time i saw him at Crobar in NYC 3 summers back. Well done!

Met ALOT of people, nice chilling with Pascal, didn't see any other TAs (its a jungle in there...lost my crew several times!)

Don't know why people keep bashing gay people, or people with shirts off....(just beware of the area in the front-middle of the DJ booth in the house room ) but besides that, the situation was fine...

Overall i had fun, and like i was trying to conclude in the other thread, BEB is a party where people do go just to have a good time with alot of freinds, meet people, and see/party with people they knew previously...just thank god i didnt have to wait in line, but knew several people that waited between 3-4 hrs cause it was overcapacity...if that was me, i would have thrown my ticket in their face and demanded a refund.....

btw, Vico is nuts, the dude drives to t.o and back, parties, drives to mtl, parties, drives back.....guy doesn't need sleep

I have a picture where we are driving back from T.O on Friday March 21st from Decadence(Sander+IM) and me and my friend are both passed out in the back seat. Time is like 10am in the morning... Good times...

Posted by lol internet on Mar-26-2008 05:33:

haha

just wanted to say armin's set from like 30mins to 2h, it felt like the whole thing was similar to roadkill (the massive buildup to drop a basic hard beat.) not sure if anyone actually understands what im trying to say here.

i enjoyed it.

Fucking massively trolled.

lol! way to add insult to injury

the line was mentally draining too.. by the time we got to security check my head was a mush.. though you do start feeling much better as soon as you take your first steps inside and realize your in for a festive treat.. then you go check the first washroom lineup and its back to being in a mush :/

Still now official explanation about what happened at door ?
not surprised

Wow, that's a little harsh...it may not have been your cup of tea (or maybe too early for that type of music?), but to say it was absolute shit (when it was anything but) ain't right.

BeB saw this coming I'm sure. Tickets were moving fast and they had to know that basically everyone was going to show up earlier based on last year's mess. I know I saw on another website that ppl were being urged to show up earlier, this days before the event even. Indeed there was already a lineup at 930PM.

Word gets around fast with technology (ie cell phones) so it got progressively worse and worse after doors opened at 930PM.

Undoubtedly, we will get the same explanation as last year (to loosely paraphrase): "..victims of our own success and everyone showed up early and no one left."

The "everyone showing up early" aspect is plausible for sure. But I personally think the overselling aspect is plausible too.. but BeB will not go there.

This has now happened two years in a row, folks. Some of you paid upwards of $100, booked time off work, booked hotels, and incurred travel costs, only to get screwed again.

Some heads need to roll.

I don't know all of a sudden I just remember the words of Annie Le Bog.

Show up EARLY to avoid disappointment.
Bal en Blanc here we come...

And Now I just have this sudden urge to shoot the promoter.

Got there around 11:45, saw the huge lineup going the length of the lobby, wow. Good thing for VIP (oh and btw, theres 2 VIP lines, one for will call). We hopped in the will call VIP even though we had our tickets and we were through coatcheck and security by 12.

Infected Mushroom - third time I had seen these guys, 2nd time as their 4 person band instead of 2 person DJ duo. Great show guys, better than when I saw them in Missouri over the summer. Personally I like the DJ duo better, but everyone seemed to love the guitar riffs. 8/10

Ferry Corsten - Of course he is gonna play lots of old classics and epic stuff, he always seems to do that. Chatted with Ferry after his set, what a personable guy he is, more so than Armin. 8.5/10

Armin - Usual Armin stuff. I liked the classics at the end. Too bad the speaker blew, but as I recall, he had a CDJ go wonky on him last year. Guess he never gets lucky with the equipment. This was my 11th time seeing Armin, and probably my last. He doesn't innovate any longer, and frankly his style is getting bland. At one point around 8am, I looked over at him from VIP right as he changed a disc, he looked at me with wavering eyes and his hand was shaking. Never seen Armin look that tired/strung. 7/10

Menno de Jong - Never seen him live, and always wanted to. He definitely didn't let me down. And wow is he tall. 9/10

Offir - Went into the house room for about 20 minutes around the time he played Billy Jean. From behind him in the VIP area, I coulda sworn he was a chick, guess I was wrong heh. Interesting conducting/arm motions. Good to see different DJ dance moves for once hehe. 8/10

There seemed to be a lot less weird stuff going on in the VIP this year than last, I guess thats a good thing. All things considered (minus lineup for non VIPs), I would rate my night as 9/10. I would only give the music an 8, but with a bunch of out of town friends and a great vibe, it gets a 9.

To the people complaining about how loud it is. By yourself some earplugs already. If you continue in this scene without them, you will have permanently damaged your ears (I learned this after Godskitchen Miami 2006). I recommend Earlove/Etymotic plugs, 12-20db of reduced sound across all frequency levels, so you maintain that pure sound, best thing you can get without going custom.

Also good to see you Malek, hard at work and focused as always

Annie's just doing her job and she was actually correct in saying to come early. It starts from the top. Speaking of top, I forgot to say hi to Vicious

If you're open-minded and open to house, I think Black and Blue may be the way to go for Montreal massives.
