Hello everybody - sorry to keep you all waitin'

Yes, I'll join in on the 31st! I can't wait. Now, we just have to do a review of places suggested to find a good and accessible location somewhere in TO.

Ahh, thank you, thank you You're so kind. Oh and of course, many thanks for the help you've given in sharing your hand with planning and organizing - I have to repeat again that it's much appreciated! I was almost starting to feel like it would be impossible to arrange for this event to happen...

We'll keep everybody posted with more information (in regards to location and time) as we work out these details. Hope to see you all there!

ill look for the place. right now i cant think of any in the area where diginut said but i will think of something.

and like i said before, just finding a grill and nice place on the sun would do great too. just something to ponder about

I have no idea what they are either. But all I know is its a bunch of meat or something lol. And arent you a vegetarian?? lol

You are going to need quite a few martinis

Posted by The Ear on Apr-23-2008 12:34:

Digi...fully in charge & organizized! Gotta love anyone who takes the time to alpha order things.

+1 on the patio if it can be done.

Posted by loca on Apr-23-2008 14:43:

As long as it's somewhere not too far from the subway stations, I'm happy with it. Me no drivey

Posted by Xavier Moriarty on Apr-23-2008 18:03:

no patios and especially no martinis lol. we're talking about traditional food here so that means traditional/family oriented restaurants. every restaurant that serves cevapi is like that, at least the ones i ate at. rixo's is not even a restaurant, more like a "order/pick up/eat on your way home" place.

outside bbq would be great. i know how to make them and im sure theres a couple of serbs/croatians/bosnians who will attend who can help me out. if nothing else can be found toronto island is always an option. we can even bring our own BOOZE lol.

its all up to you, just something to think about

Posted by Yohan on Apr-23-2008 18:49:

TOTA BBQ FTW?

Put me in for maybe

Well, Mak is at Lawrence/Vic Park, and Bosha is near Dundas & Runnymede. Neither of these are exactly "convenient" locations but they are within Toronto proper... er, sorta. Have you eaten at either of those?

Royal Meats and McAdam are supposed to be good but they're way out on Mississauga/Etobicoke... pain for most of us to drive to and nearly impossible by subway.

I think a little outdoor BBQ and drinks on Toronto Island is a great idea, but it is quite difficult to plan since it's hard to be sure exactly who's going to come (remember - don't trust the roll call). It's also a lot of people's first time trying this, not to mention first time meeting each other, so although I'll reiterate that it sounds great to me, I think maybe the plans should be kept a little more conventional for this particular event. Assuming that this is a great success, I'm sure people will want to do it again and there's plenty of time in the summer to do it custom.

Of course, if enough people here want to do it your way now, I've got no problem with that. Although I don't think Toronto Island is really any easier to get to by car or public transit...

So how many people here have cars? I'm sure I could pick up a few people at Lawrence or Dundas station. If a few other people are willing to do that, I'm sure we can accommodate all of the TTC schmucks.

I'd wanted to ask, are people bringing their friends too? If so, please give us a hint as to how many people would be coming along with you, that way we'll have a better idea of attendance and can take that into consideration when selecting a restaurant.

Thanks a lot to DigiNut and Miki for their generous help, as well as everybody else who contributed... hope to see you all there!

there's already 21 ppl on the list when you include endless_summer. i suggest you impose a cap. it's going to be very tough trying to accommodate everyone and their friends in a restaurant especially if the number goes beyond 30.

I think it would be a good idea to start calling a few restaurants now to find out how large of a group they could handle on a Saturday evening. 30 people is a large group for a small restaurant to accommidate, especially last minute.

If the "organizing committee" requires my help in any manner of calling places (a predetermined list will be required naturally) I can be of assistance here.

Looking forward to this. Immensely. I love trying "new to me" food.

Or food in general.

Cheers.

Good work pardner!

To all: I don't think we'll get more than 30 people on the list, and remember, there are usually a bunch that don't show up.

It's honestly worse to be under than over, within reasonable parameters. If you plan for 40 people and 20 come, you look like tools. If you plan for 20 and 30 come, most restaurants will try to accommodate you, and even if they can't, you can usually squeeze a few extra chairs in.

One year there was a WMC meet-up in Miami ('05 or '06, I forget), they made reservations for I think a hundred people and maybe 30 showed up, several of whom showed up really late. They were really pissed off and actually tried to charge us for the full reservation. I'm still not sure exactly how or if that was settled.

I realize it's a bit of a crap shoot, and it's possible that every single person on this list will come, but I doubt it. We're probably going to lose a few immediately after picking the venue (and they may or may not inform us), because any venue we pick is going to be far out of someone's way.

'Course I still agree that we should be calling them and finding out what they can handle, but do NOT make reservations for 30 people when we only have 20 confirmed.

Add me to the list.....Cevapi are soooooooooooooooooooooooo good, omg the ones back home were just amazing....
