Music with a lot of bass (most dance) can give a sensation of "primal" power that's really visceral because large amounts of bass are associated with big and powerful things moving: earthquakes, explosions, thunder, avalanches, certain animals roaring, etc. Most sounds in nature (i.e. not man-made) don't have a lot of bass content, and a lot of the ones that do are associated with fear, excitement, or awe.

What I have heard it mainly has to do with frequencies. Getting hypnotised to me is about the opposite of fear, but I'm not an expert. Probably it's very complicated.....

Oceansize are not neo-prog. Neo-prog was a 70s (symphonic) prog revival by a bunch of UK bands in the first half of the 80s. Marillion is the most obvious example.

Like I said, I'm not an expert, but you're a professor

We always can ask bugs bunny, think he has some experience in both...

Seriously, I don't know for sure.

Yeah sorry. I meant "new-prog" or "post-prog" or whatever this new kind of progressive rock is called lol.

I thought you did, but i hoped not, because it's a silly term some journalists have been throwing around. Although i understand it's used to refer to a number of alternative and indie rock bands displaying an increased level of progressiveness, most of these bands don't have much else in common. I don't see any need for lumping these bands together and assigning them some new sub-genre tag. "Progressive rock" will do just fine. But most importantly Oceansize has a unique identity that goes beyond all of this.

I would describe their sound as modern heavy prog with a grunge influence, elements of post-rock and a slight avant-garde metal leaning. Or something like that. In an interview lead singer/guitarist Mike Vennart described what they play as "noisy, psychedelic, beautiful, textural guitar music".

Fluxion is the best in that style. Search for his three albums if you haven't already (i think i have told you like...100 times before ) . Cult minimalist dub techno producer.

Yeah, i understand what you meam. I mean they are categorized with Coheed and Cambria which are like slightly proggy Emo-Rock (!?) band.

Oceansize are excellent, unfortunately i think i have a little problem with that "new-rock" style vocals, i really can't stand it at times lol (but this is just me anyways, his voice is very good in that particular style). I really like the music though.

I'm into exploring all the obscure end-of-70s/80s post-punk/new-wave/no-wave/darkwave (lol)bands lately, very interesting experimental but energetic (at times almost "dance"-)music coming from that era (The Chameleons are extremely good . I was a fan of that music when i was 19, i forgot how timeless and good it is)

And for the record I hope you guys don't hink there is no artistic skill involved in producing EDM. That would be very sed.

Nice. Has some excellent tunes around the middle and the final track is very interesting, you can hear that it was done by a trance producer.

Any chance of getting the DJ name and mix name so I can slap an ID tag on this?

Yeah he's a Finnish producer and DJ named Otto Toivakka. Produces various kinds of dub, acid jazz, downtempo, trip hop and whatever material he comes up with.

The mix title is also in Finnish and can be translated in English as 'land of dreams'.
