I do believe that the advantage would have gone to Obama in this percentage of the population that vould vote based on the fact Obama is a minority. |

| Originally posted by Vivid Boy ur totally off marcos. it was because he was black. lets think about the average american who has an attention span of a 4 yr old. do you really think they gave a fuck about paying attention to his political policies? All they saw was black, heard through the grape vine that hes charismatic and bam, showed up to support him. We are all just lucky he was the right man for the job. but then again what type of job is it really? you're just a puppet.so what does it matter if the puppet is black. |

But even if there was an advantage to Obama from minority voting, there no such thing as a bad vote, so if the democrats finally achieved getting people to vote who never bothered before, it was because of good campaigning and using their money wisely knowing they could finally get that vote to come out for them with Obama. Republicans have had alot of advantages when it comes to getting certain votes every election, and its about time these parties went out to fight for every vote. |

I hope he does well! We sure need a change.
this is progress people!
next up: a black, homosexual, atheist as president.
but seriously, what's with all the pessimism? I don't think Obama is going to be anywhere near as bad as a letdown as some other recent US presidents. so let's not jump to conclusions either way.
we should simply be glad that he's not a fundamentalist-hick...he's actually a pretty open-minded intellectual. so we'll see where this goes.
I'll probably get flamed for this but here goes.
I am happy that Obama won and that he has brought hope to a country that needs it more now that ever. However, I just don't get what everyone sees in him. He is a bright man, who put together a great group of people, raised a lot of money, and ran great campaigns. He was in short the right person at the right time. America needed change, hope, something to believe in and he brought that to them. The comparisons that are being made to him and Martin Luther King I find really offensive.
Martin Luther King fought for people who did not have basic human rights in their own country because of the colour of their skin. His "I have a dream" speach still gives me chills every time I hear it. Obama wasn't fighting to be able to sit at the same lunch counter or to be able to drink from the same fountain...he was fighting to become the most powerful man in the world. He hasn't done anything other than be a senator for 1/2 of his term.
So lets celebrate about his victory. Lets hope he continues to bring hope to a country that desperatly needs it and shows that a black man can rise up and become president. He did make history last night by becoming the first black man ever elected to be the president of the USA, but please lets see what he does over the next 4 to 8 years before we start saying he changed the world. He may go down in history as the first black president but also the worst president.
In short I'm happy he won, but please lets see what he actually does as president before we proclaim him to be great. We never know what the future will bring and how things will unfold...after all what would the Bush presidency have been like if 911 never happened?
