To me, theres too many questions to ask in order to get to the bottom of your opinion, and im in no mood to go digging for facts and stats to prove it right or wrong. But even if there was an advantage to Obama from minority voting, there no such thing as a bad vote, so if the democrats finally achieved getting people to vote who never bothered before, it was because of good campaigning and using their money wisely knowing they could finally get that vote to come out for them with Obama. Republicans have had alot of advantages when it comes to getting certain votes every election, and its about time these parties went out to fight for every vote.

All they saw was black, heard through the grape vine that hes charismatic and bam, showed up to support him. We are all just lucky he was the right man for the job.

but then again what type of job is it really? you're just a puppet.so what does it matter if the puppet is black.

Oh sorry, I forgot Obama threw up the "Black" signal in the sky, and all the black people came out of their houses to support the cause. "BRAPPPP!"

I will agree that there is no such thing as a bad vote...and everyone can use whatever criteria they want to make their vote.

If you guys were smart, you would get a gay woman in first, cause we all know lesbians are more socially acceptable(amongst males).

It's hard deciding what to wear, Marg.
Don't judge!

Even if he isn't your cup of tea....it was still an inspiring day/night.

I hope he does well! We sure need a change.

Posted by evil_cookie on Nov-06-2008 01:59:

this is progress people!
next up: a black, homosexual, atheist as president.

but seriously, what's with all the pessimism? I don't think Obama is going to be anywhere near as bad as a letdown as some other recent US presidents. so let's not jump to conclusions either way.
we should simply be glad that he's not a fundamentalist-hick...he's actually a pretty open-minded intellectual. so we'll see where this goes.

I'll probably get flamed for this but here goes.

I am happy that Obama won and that he has brought hope to a country that needs it more now that ever. However, I just don't get what everyone sees in him. He is a bright man, who put together a great group of people, raised a lot of money, and ran great campaigns. He was in short the right person at the right time. America needed change, hope, something to believe in and he brought that to them. The comparisons that are being made to him and Martin Luther King I find really offensive.

Martin Luther King fought for people who did not have basic human rights in their own country because of the colour of their skin. His "I have a dream" speach still gives me chills every time I hear it. Obama wasn't fighting to be able to sit at the same lunch counter or to be able to drink from the same fountain...he was fighting to become the most powerful man in the world. He hasn't done anything other than be a senator for 1/2 of his term.

So lets celebrate about his victory. Lets hope he continues to bring hope to a country that desperatly needs it and shows that a black man can rise up and become president. He did make history last night by becoming the first black man ever elected to be the president of the USA, but please lets see what he does over the next 4 to 8 years before we start saying he changed the world. He may go down in history as the first black president but also the worst president.

In short I'm happy he won, but please lets see what he actually does as president before we proclaim him to be great. We never know what the future will bring and how things will unfold...after all what would the Bush presidency have been like if 911 never happened?

I don't know if you realized this but California voted for Obama and they also voted to ban gay marriage. I guess that means that both Republicans and Democrats can be homophobic. So the Democrats in California voted to ban gay marriage. Does that mean all those poeple who voted for Obama are against gay marriage, that was your previous assumption about Republicans.

Maybe, just maybe people vote for a party or a leader who best represents the majority of their beliefs. I for one vote mostly conservative and wait for it....are you ready....you won't believe this...its going to blow your mind

I'm gay

I vote mostly on economic policy, who would have thought that was possible.

Wrong! Ron Paul 2012 FTW!

Socially, mentally he may be the right guy. Economically, strategically, they needed a pres with a solid understanding of the financial markets, and world history.

They had their chance to elect Ron Paul, and failed, large.

I think this is really well said, and there's no reason for you to be flamed.
I think Obama himself would agree that the comparisons between him and Martin Luther King are too much.

I don't get why people are so upset that people have faith in him though. Everyone knows time will tell. But for now...there's nothing wrong with hope, in whatever its form.
