Great race for redbull...... too bad button came back from that far back, i think he was 13 at one point.

Posted by pmoisse on Jul-13-2009 17:11:

Agreed. Good race all around, especially with the threat of rain to shake things up even though that didn't happen.

I felt bad for Sutil. He was looking at a great finish before his little tangle with Kimi. Simple racing incident, but if only Sutil had just allowed Kimi to have that corner he could have easily passed him when he came into the pits later. The one stop strategy would have been brilliant and a great result for Force India.

Barrichello running his mouth off at the end was surprising, but I couldn't really blame him for being frustrated. He just vented it too soon and the wrong way.

What did Barrichello say? I was watching on nazi tv... FOX, so they have crappy coverage and did not show the interview.

He was all angry about the pitstop cock-up with the fuel rig, but didn't know it was the rig that failed. he thought that the team changed strategies on him again and screwed up his race, lik ein Barcelona.

He was really pissed, which is odd for him. He's usually pretty cool about things.

The guy who got hit with a tire on the head while driving? i saw that shit... scary :/

Posted by pmoisse on Jul-22-2009 18:34:

^ yeah, I tuned into that masters race on Sunday for a bit then switched to MotoGP before this happened.

That's two promising young guns dead this year (Joe Tandy being the other).

Sad.

RIP

Posted by noikeee on Jul-23-2009 12:18:

Joe had dropped his racing career a couple years ago, he was now helping out his brother Nick by setting up a team for him in F3.

Posted by pmoisse on Jul-23-2009 19:59:

^ true, forgot about that. I just remember seeing a highlight reel of this kid who pretty much started his own team and started winning.

Sad loss for racing regardless.

Posted by stren on Jul-23-2009 22:17:

i still can't get over that death, so unlucky

Posted by stren on Jul-25-2009 23:39:

and now Massa gets seriously injured in another freak accident
Closed cockpits will be on the discussion table

Posted by pmoisse on Jul-26-2009 08:02:

While there's no doubt that these latest deaths and Massa's injury are seriously unfortunate and tragic, I think that if motor racing becomes too sanitized, it will lose the excitement that is what made it the spectacle that it is today.

I was watching a brilliant feature on Sir Stirling Moss today who still races a historic Masserati OSCA at the age of 80, and he was saying that motor racing needs to be dangerous. Not reckless, or careless, but dangerous.

It's a tough call for sure, between legacy vs. evolution, safety vs. acceptable risk.

I think in this case with Massa, and with the case with Henry Surtees, these were freak accidents and nothing more. The loss of a life, especially a young and promising one is certainly nothing to take lightly, however, if safety was to be paramount above everything, we shouldn't be going motor racing in the first place.

Posted by ivofivo on Jul-28-2009 17:24:

OMFG.

Its all over the news. Did you guys here that Schumacher might replace Massa for the remainder of the season?

BMW might pull out of F1

It was made official this morning after a press conference in Munich.

It's a shame for sure. I had high hopes for them this year, but they just didn't get the car right, and without in season testing, playing catch-up is nearly impossible.

I hope they migrate back into a factory sportscar effort, maybe even with a diesel since that has more opportunity for technology to trickle-down into the road cars.

Posted by Skuz on Jul-29-2009 17:06:

Schumacher is back! Strike!

Posted by MindShifter on Jul-29-2009 18:00:

I'm so conflicted today on the one hand I'm terribly disappointed that BMW is pulling out of F1 on the other hand the thought of Schumi coming back for 7 races has me extremely excited.

Guess we'll see how long it takes him to knock the rust off especially with the in season testing ban...

Posted by pmoisse on Jul-29-2009 18:28:

I like the idea of Schu coming back. I think it will shake things up nicely and force everyone to step up their game. Even if he's rusty, he's still bloody fast.

Mclaren did it, Ferrari as well. Goes to show how quickly they can develop compared to BMW

Posted by pmoisse on Jul-29-2009 21:22:

^True! I did say "nearly"though

Should be an interesting race to the championship though. Schu will def. act as a spoiler, but who's party he spoils...who knows.

Posted by nchs09 on Jul-30-2009 04:10:

This should get interesting...
