Trinity isn't Catholic. It used to be affiliated with Presbyterians I think, but now it's just unattached. You're probably thinking of Incarnate Word.

Certainly the name can be deceptive.

no i went to catholic school my whole life i know trinity isn't catholic i just didn't want to go to a private school anymore

and i'm definitely not thinking about UIW because the high school i graduated from was owned and operated by UIW

Ahh, okay, misread you then.

i went to barnes & noble today for like 40 minutes and picked up a couple of books and then changed my mind. i wanted to get recommendations first because i was really lost as to what to look for.

i really like chuck klosterman and dean koontz. i'm not a huge reader but the few novels i've read have been from those guys and i have a lot of free time on my hands these days being unemployed and it looks like rain all weekend so i really want to get lost in a great book.

recommendations please!

i'm into true crime/suspense and then also sarcastic cinical towards pop culture stuff too.

Atlas Shrugged.

Yeah I know it doesn't fit those categories but I wanted to piss pkc off.

Posted by Slylee on May-22-2009 22:49:

lol that's college required reading

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on May-22-2009 22:53:

George Bataille's Story Of The Eye. It's a thriller and a short read - you'll love it.

Posted by Slylee on May-22-2009 23:00:

k i'm going back to the bookstore tomorrow.

this is what i had in my hand and was ready to buy though lol

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on May-22-2009 23:04:

No wait, don't get the one I recommended. Just don't.

Though the Hitchins one looks like it could be really interesting. I'd go for that one.

Posted by Capitalizt on May-22-2009 23:06:

I don't recommend the Hitchens book at all. I found it very dull.. It's mainly quotes, old articles, and tales of the ridiculous stuff people have said/done related to religion in the past. I think everyone knows by now that it has resulted in millions of deaths and held back human progress. That's common knowledge and the Hitchens book is just a dry historical account. If you want a more thoughtful book on the subject..something putting forth solid arguments in favor of reason and against the religious/mystical mindset, check out The God Delusion instead.

Posted by Slylee on May-22-2009 23:14:

to be honest i'm looking more for an escape and entertainment, more than thought-provoking stuff like religion lol

Posted by Capitalizt on May-22-2009 23:15:

Atlas Shrugged it is.

I ordered this one before you posted those though.
Self Aware Universe (Paperback)

Anyone know if its any good?

Posted by nefardec on May-28-2009 20:29:

self aware universe is pretty good - it's sitting on my shelf. it's written more for a broader audience than his other work 'science and spirituality'

i see it as a good introduction to the current science of consciousness and quantum physics.

i should read it again
