Indeed he's got talent, but imo every player needs to play with his heart. Sometimes you don't need to be the most talented, but to put a lot of effort and passion into what you do. That's what I don't like about Price.

CAN WE TRADE PRICE PLEASE!?!@?#!?!@#

Posted by dannyboyrm on Jan-28-2010 13:36:

The only way Price will go is if Gainey goes. While Gainey made his mea culpa with Laraque, don't think he will admit his failure by going with Price as the supposed numbah 1.

cause it's also admitting he made a mistake canning carbo (cause carbo always said price was not ready to be number one yet).

Posted by Romchik22 on Jan-28-2010 15:40:

Gainey hasn't made a mistake in the past with price ( other then bringing him too quickly to the nhl ). I take any day Price over Huet that's for sure. I think that Price is sic and tired of Montreal and the media with the Idea that he's the "second-comming-of-patrick".

if they don't trade one of the goalies and another team signs them to an offer sheet (they are RFA) this is roughly what we will get.

The current expected RFA compensation table for 2008-09 is:

Amount

Compensation Due

$863,156 or less

None

$863,156 - $1,307,811

3rd round pick

$1,307,811 - $2,615,623

2nd round pick

$2,615,623 - $3,923,434

1st and 3rd round pick

$3,923,434 - $5,231,246

1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick

$5,231,246 - $6,539,061

Two 1st's, one 2nd, one 3rd round pick

$6,539,061 or more

Four 1st round picks

The actual numbers will be posted when the NHL releases the figures on or about June 30.

They will trade Halak, and I truly hope they trade Halak. Don't get me wrong, I prefer Halak over Price because of his maturity and determination. Imagine we trade price and Halak has a 4 game losing streak... two days later you'll see 5 death threats for gainey..

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-28-2010 18:41:

price is not to blame for the loss at all...the team played like shit and a goalie can't win a game if his team does not score.

Agreed, just hate the fact that he's tripping over everything

Can Halak become the next Thomas Vokoun.
Vokoun was drafter by Montreal in the 9th round and today he goes into the top 5 goal tenders in the nhl IMO

Even if we limp into the playoffs and lose in 4-5-6 games, Gainey's gone. He even said it at the beginning of the year, this year was a test of his GM skills and if he failed, he would pay the price.

Trading Halak or Price isn't going to fix this team.

no, but Halak is not going to get signed for over 2.6 million a year...which means the highest amount of compensation we can receive for him is a second round pick in the off season. We can get a better deal now to a team still in the hunt that needs a goalie. If Price stays, Halak will sign with another team, because he wants a starters job.

The funniest thing about all of this "controversy" in net is that it has always been this way here. Look at Patrick Roy.

Even if he was the biggest reason the Habs won the cup in 86, he didn't right out become the number 1 until after the 89 playoff run. In those 3 seasons he split the workload almost evenly with Brian Hayward. In those seasons he played: 47, 46, 45 games.

I'm not even sure we should do it (trade Halak), because Halak is obviously our only shot at making the playoffs.

We will find out if Carey is going to be dominant in 2 to 3 years...until then he is still just a baby. The goalie position has always been one that takes younger guys longer to mature, because it is simply the position with the most pressure. Add the fact that is is in Montreal, times the pressure by 10.

Next year it's going to be most likely cedric desjardin with Price or the other veteran golie that we have signed not too long ago

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-29-2010 17:00:

curtis sanford.

while you are probably right, we can't be so sure because they might blow this team up again.

Impossible to blow this team away because we trade for a very very expensive player that no team will ever want (Gomez) and Gionta ( way too expensive for what he is IMO). God bless we signed cammelari that is worth his 6 million unquestionably.
Then our second problem is, we need to sign : Plekanec, Sergei Kostityn, D'agostini, Pouliot, Price, Halak with 2,5 million left in our salary cap.
In my humble opinion, I think we're royaly fucked for the years to come. Find a second team to cheer for, I did.. GO CAPS GO!

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-29-2010 17:35:

not necessarily.

the nhl is studying on teams being able to trade and still pay partial salaries of the traded players without it counting towards the cap.

also some of the clauses of those big contracts come with buy out options already included in them, so the 8 million is not as bad as it looks.

the habs have their hands tied a but there are a few loopholes to be able to manage something. (aka back ended contracts.)

and all those players other than Pleks are Restricted free agents and will not really get too many offers. If they do, look at the compensation scale i posted above to see what we will get if they go go. Even if it is only draft picks, drafting is THE way to build in the new NHL.

Michael Farber, CNNSI..

Habs may pay for Price trade
For those Nervous Nellies in Montreal who are now yapping for general manager Bob Gainey to trade laconic 22-year-old Carey Price and anoint 24-year-old Jaroslav Halak as the No. 1 goalie, please take a giant step back from the situation. Maybe Price doesn't blossom into the Second Coming of Ken Dryden, but it is still far too early to tell in a profession rife with late bloomers such as Miikka Kiprusoff, Tim Thomas and others who have had a far skimpier portfolio than a fifth overall draft pick.

Although no two circumstances are identical, Montrealers -- who live in a province where the motto on the license plate reads (in French), "I remember" -- should recall the early career of another goaltending prodigy: Patrick Roy.

Roy was bulletproof while leading the Canadiens to a surprise Stanley Cup as a rookie in 1986, but he essentially split the job with Brian Hayward the following three seasons before claiming it utterly in the 1989 playoffs. (Roy played in 46, 45 and 48 regular-season games between 1986-87 and 1988-89 while Hayward had 37, 39 and 36.) Obviously, Price has not come anywhere close to Roy in terms of tangible achievements, but he has shown flashes of brilliance. Halak has modestly better numbers this season and a more energized presence, but ultimately Price might have a higher ceiling than the Slovak who will start for his country in the Vancouver Olympics.

As long as the division of labor between his goalies does not divide the dressing room, Gainey should be in no rush to move either goalie prior to the trade deadline. This summer, he can choose between the restricted free agents -- Price or Halak. Or, again, both.

i don't read SI because reading SI for good hockey coverage is like reading Womens Journal for rape tips.

Farber is a shithead so i'm not surprised that he likes trance

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-29-2010 19:28:

I read them all.. TSN, (is THN still around?), Globe... with CNNSI it's more out of curiosity with how NHL is being covered down there. We aren't much better sometimes.. Ron MacLean is a trance-loving douche also
