pure speculation: what if it was border/customs related? and "illness" is just an easier excuse to explain

(didn't the last date he missed also seemed sketchy in that dept as well?)

Posted by DJ Eco on Nov-08-2009 17:20:

I'd be pissed if I were you guys, that's grimy "Cocaine's one hell of a drug," as Rick James would say...

I think it's just a terrible hangover... We'll know if you're right if we see him in a "Locked Up Abroad" episode next season!!

Posted by activate on Nov-08-2009 17:24:

I can only think of 3 gigs in TO he's missed over the years. One was in 98 or 99. and Effective event in the warehouse. Betterdays came on board and were going to do Sasha in the Orange Room. He ended up not showing.

Sasha and Digweed last year in the Koolhaus. Someone stole his passport.

And last night.

Posted by Nobbie Q on Nov-08-2009 17:28:

Tonight he's playing at Set in Miami. That's Tony Montana central so they'll have good coke there as well. I'm sure he won't miss tonight's gig...

True.

There was also that insanely sketchy koolhaus gig (like 4-5 years ago) he did post-Montreal in which I watched him fall asleep standing and then shake himself back awake hahaha

Honestly, this cancellation only adds to the mystique, you'll all want to see him even moreso now haha I know I do.

Posted by LiveTime on Nov-08-2009 17:32:

So maybe if guv imports some columbians to bring coke to guv for sasha and just pay him in blow he won't cancel?

Seems logical.

funny you say that because I got a few messages saying that they would look up and every once in a while sasha looked like pure death.....just really, really sick looking.....I am sure the cocaine helped his stamina, though, and if he really WAS sick, he probably felt it after he came down off that 8ball.

Regardless, its no excuse, he is a professional (supposedly) and that means taking things easy when you know you have to fly to another gig the next night.

really shitty news for you guys, Im really sorry you guys have to keep going through this with him!

Posted by chinamon on Nov-08-2009 18:02:

i think every promoter/venue in the world should boycott sasha. that should wake him up a little bit.

Posted by VDub on Nov-08-2009 18:03:

Why does everyone assume it's a coke habit that makes him cancel and makes him fall asleep in the middle of a set???

But just to play devils advocate for a sec, how many of you have partied so hard saturday and sunday that you called in sick on monday..

You all know this is just a job to him right???

Mark played a 50X better set then boring Sasha would've played anyway...

In a perfect world, yes. It will never happen though.

Posted by Nobbie Q on Nov-08-2009 18:15:

I was really happy when he signed my GU 13 Ibiza booklet. He should know he has real fans here. But the nonsense last night really sucked.

Let's see if he "makes it" for Miami tonight. I'm pretty sure he will

lol true story but when you are the "professional" you arent supposed to be the partier. Granted, its easier to party "at work" when you are a DJ as opposed to, say, an accountant or something....but when you have a job to do the next day (whether you are snorting coke or have the flu) it probably wasnt the best idea to play a warehouse party in Brooklyn til 10am.....he could have at least taken it easy considering he knew he had a gig in Toronto 12 hours later and still had to travel....

just a job? how about not being paid for doing shit like this? or getting his ass sued for not showing up?

I've never ever called in sick as much as I wanted to after a weekend of partying, the most lame excuse everrrrrr! people should know their limits and party within them, period.

Posted by Nobbie Q on Nov-08-2009 18:43:

Yeah it's not "just" a job...but the greatest job in the world! Playing your style of music for thousands of dollars, being surrounded by groupies and DJ worshippers and plenty of other perks included as well!

What makes this all worse, is that ppl in the NYC forum are saying he played till only 6 AM there and not 10 AM!!

Well I'm sure he forfeits his fee...

And I've gone to work directly from parties, never called in sick...

But I'm sure others have...

Like I said... Devils advocate...

its funny cuz they even make a point of that in the sasha & digweed delta heavy tour dvd. if he loves the rails so much then he needs to keep doing it all weekend so he can play all his gigs. he can have his "sick days" during the week.

they also mentioned in the delta heavy dvd, sasha has to play at every show on the tour, each show he missed he has to pay the club $100,000 in lost revenues....i don't think he missed a show.....

i gurantee hes held up in a new york city hotel suie, all coked out.....it's all gone pete tong style....blaming it on the coke skunk lol......

Exactly, I'm sure we've all had days where we didn't want to go to work and have called in "sick".

Maybe people need to stop putting DJs up on these huge pedestals....remember all they do is play music.

Its different when you are dealing with the public and you are the main attraction though.

nah he played at *LEAST* til 7:30am, because a friend of mine left at that time and Sasha was playing back to back with the other DJ (I cant remember I think he said it was DJ Three. Confirmed by other reviews as well).

DOnt think Sasha played til 10, though, I think the other guy closed it out on his own based on the reviews (whatever that time was! LOL the last report I got was 10 am, but who knows with those crazy Brooklyn warehouse parties!!)
