Vincente's (Great cuban food, kind of pricey, but you wont regret it)

Xocimilcos in Mexican town (Great authentic Mexicnan food, with a great price, this is my favorite in Mexican town)

Suppinos Pizza in Eastern Market (Amazing pizza, voted best in detroit Multiple times, they are closed on the weekend though

Nikki's Pizza (Great pizza in greek town, dont fall into the tourist trap that is Pizzapapalis, way over priced and the pizza is subpar for the price

Royal Kabab (Located in Hamtramck technically, but it's like a 5 minute drive from Heart Plaza, and had amazing authentic Middle Eastern food, if you want shwarma, I highly recommend this resturaunt)

For sushi most people are going to say Oslo, but I don't like Oslo, so i'd go to either

Shangra La on cass by Wayne State University (has pretty much the only Dim Sum in Detroit

OR:

Wasabi (Also located by WSU, a great place for sushi and cocktails. Also a plethora of other asain fare to select.

If you guys are at old Miami During the monday, or by that area try

Honest Johns (Amazing breakfast, as well as a variety of vegetarian options, located around the corner from Old Miami, also open on Memorial day, but if you go on memorial day be prepared to wait, unless you get there early. This is the only place open within like a 5 Mile Radius besides like, Coney's.

And of course:

Lafayette Coney Island is a must, if you don't know already, then you need to learn!

If anyone has any questions please let me know.

Good post.

I'm down for checking out a good eatery or two while I'm there, but, like mentioned, the food at the festival ROCKS!! So much to choose from, the vendors are literally scattered all over the grounds and it's made on spot fresh! Nothing like a juicy footlong hotdog slathered with condiments and a boatload of fried onions dripping down your wrists after not eating for 10hrs!!

Mean philly cheese steaks beside holiday inn. Love em.

Ps google maps detroit. Under map mode, it has the outline of buildings now. New thing they are doing?

sucks that you won't be there rachel but i'll take the tickets off of you if you still have 'em. we were going to get them this weekend anyway so this saves me $20 in BS service fees.

Posted by rounder19 on Apr-26-2011 01:23:

i'd stick with oslo, tv bar, old miami, taste, the boat or something unique for venues

stay away from places like bleu and vain. no reason to go to works either.

eat on the cheap at slows, lafeyette coney, plakas(breakfast), forans, wah hoo, detroit beer company.

festival really doesnt get kicking till 4pm on. i see no reason to be there from 12-3. id hit a dayrave in the morning at tv bar or something.

Spybar is in Chicago. But they work closely with some of the Detroit crews if I remember correctly. Detek and Paxahau perhaps.

I know they did a DEMF preparty in Chicago last year on a Thursday. And they did a collab/split/present "Spybar presents" something or another in Detroit on the Friday. But for the life of me I can't remember who it was!

So it's possible that they are fronting the bill for the guests but throwing the party in Detroit as presenters.
