I read that Paul van Dyk - For an Angel is from 1994? Very interesting but back then PvD hadnt done a lot either yet and For an Angel is really from 97 instead of 94, but it doesnt affect his dj skills in 2002 now does it?

And Tiesto being an oakey wannabe but without the talent?
Dont get me wrong here, I absolutely love both of m but Tiesto is definately a better mixer then Oakey. My mother can even hear that. And as far as I know Oakey has used so much more of Tiesto's work then the other way around or not? And Oakey's quality is choosing the right tracks and def. not mixing m together.

Just accept the fact that Tiesto is #1 and nobody else is.
Next year's another chance for all of m innit

Actually, you are quite ignorant yourself. The E-Werk mix of For an angel may have been 1997, but the original was 1994. I would do the research before you assert a negative opinion next time, especially calling someone else ignorant.

Go see paul's disco:
1994 Paul van Dyk
"45 RPM" Vinyl 12" Album
1 Paul van Dyk Im Comin(To Take You Away Too) A1
2 Paul van Dyk A Magical Moment A2
3 Paul van Dyk Rushin (Revolutions Per Minute) B1
4 Paul van Dyk 45RPM B2
5 Paul van Dyk For An Angel C1
6 Paul van Dyk Spannung (Mad Housemix) C2
7 Paul van Dyk Ooh! La! La! (Krankenhouse Mix) D1
8 Paul van Dyk Pump This On 45 D2

It has a lot to do with his quality as a dj. PvD has been up near the top for years. He is consistent, loyal to his fans, and not one to jump on any bandwagons. The point was simply that van Dyk is established, whereas Tiesto is not so much.

And jeezus! Tiesto mixes better than Oaky?!?

You are sadly mistaken my friend. Maybe on Tiesto's production/mix CD's, but Oaky is incredibly fluent in his mixing, Tiesto is horribly horribly inconsistent. And I despise Oakenfold's track selections, I usually give Tiesto a chance.

But you've got your shit way backwards there, man.

My .02.

Peace.

Love is in the air Tiesto Number 1!!! Hell Yeaahhhhh!!!

Well now for my actual comment on this topic, Tiesto got number one and absolutely deserves it. His essential mix from Club Space is by far the best mix I've heard all year, every tune is classic, and his mixing second to none (accept maybe Digweed ) Seeing him was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

To all who say he doesn't deserve to be number one, I respect your oppinions because I think Digweed and PvD deserve it just as much, and yes, matt hardwick should definetly be higher, but that's just the way things go.

Now, to all you people whining about how Tiesto is writing "commercial" songs and "selling out", WTF is tiesto supposed to do? I mean seriously, do you think he should make his songs worse just so he can appease a few arrogant snobs who need to listen to "Underground" music just so they can think they're taste in music is better than every one elses? Tiesto writes what he wants, the fact that a lot of people like his music and you don't is no excuse to assault his credibility as a DJ and a songwriter. Saying that you don't like his music is a much more dignified comment then saying He's too "commercial". All that says about you is that you don't really care about the music, because if you did you wouldn't care if it was "commercial" or not.

I think another justification that Tiesto has for being number one is that he has split off from the generic dutch sounding roots and has explored and developed his own truly unique style, and that through his music people who might not have had an interest in the club scene are now avid enthusiasts (and not just for tiesto). I think his contribution to the scene over this year and his entire career have been tremendous and he has never gotten his due credit.

Tiesto is a great artist, a great entertainer, and a wonderful person to be around, but most importantly of all, Tiesto is an incredible DJ.

Umm, his live mixes on magik 6 and magik 7 (and all the other mixes for that matter cuz they are ALL live) are excellent, and when I saw him his mixing was awesome, and on his latest essential mix it is almost seamless. I'm a dj myself, I know what mixing is good and what is bad. IN FACT, if you would like to hear BAD mixing, listen to PvD - Live at Rosenmontags Oaky's mixing on his Ibiza essential mix was also somewhat shitty, tho when I saw him he was ok.

I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong, I just hope you have some shit to back up such bold statements.

Tiesto = NO.1
Aye, He deserves that definitly !!

Posted by DJ_Skaya on Nov-04-2002 18:04:

Another Bad call by MixMag readers...

TIMO MASS #57? WTF?!!! Hes got a unique sound, he's been producing sick tracks and DJing even sicker sets. He hasn't been around that long but geez, give the guy some credit! Another message not to take these things too seriously.

Posted by Djeebie on Nov-04-2002 18:11:

Tisto deserves it. I've got nothing more to say. He got my vote for the number one position.

Your previous post made a number of great points, and I agree wholeheartedly. He has risen through the ranks to become world-known, and it has taken hard work and effort. I'm not bashing him, I respect what he has done, but I'm just not a fan of his. However, in my experience with both Oakenfold and Tiesto...live performances, mp3 set lisetning etc. Oaky has got him beat hands-down. Oaky is picture perfect, very tight mixing...just because I don't have "dj" in my forum name doesn't mean I don't know my shit, I've been spinning for 3 years now. Also in my experience Tiesto is a very sloppy mixer in live performances. Maybe it was because of those venues, setups, etc, but his mixing was not very tight, many of his mixes were very noticeably off, not train-wrecking mind you, just off.

It doesn't matter, Danny Howells can mix circles around them both anyways.

Edit: And because his magik cds were mixed "live" doesn't mean that they weren't "engineered" or "remastered" in the studio. You can't trust commercially mixed "live" cds as a testament to a dj's ability. Thank the labels studio staff.

Voted for by readers of dotmusic and DJ magazine, the poll saw trance and progressive DJs dominating the upper reaches of the charts, with Tiesto (NL), Sasha (UK), Digweed (UK), Paul Van Dyke (Germany) and Armin Van Buuran (NL) taking the top five places.

You gotta love the nimrods who write these "articles" without even knowing how to spell artist's name.

It's too much based on American votes/taste. So therefore 'worldwide' isn't the right term.

yes and tiesto is playing cheesy music with all of those jingles to appeal to the states.

Eeeh, I saw Tiesto 3 times these last two weeks and he didn't play a single cheesy track. I can't say the same thing about PvD, who I saw this last Friday

OMFG!!! You are totally nuts! PvD @ Rosenmontags has been a liveset with great comments! I think it was the beginning of PvD having better & better sets every month after that!

Don't make me say more about what you personally said here in athens while we were dancing and you were melting for listening to "Nothing But You" for the first time that PvD played it in a liveset... remember? I do... certainly!

i axplained u the reasons for my nerves in tiestos performance in greece...the club and the people there really sucked..tiestos set was fucking great!...pvd's set @ athens was great too!but our main thing in this thread is about djmagazines results...

Posted by prgtrance01 on Nov-05-2002 05:20:

I have seen Tiesto a few times and heard him Train wreck more than once he is a good dj, but he shouldn't be #1 or even in the top Ten. But I guess everyone has their opinion.

Posted by Ferrari_7 on Nov-05-2002 12:55:

well done to tiesto for being No.1 ...BUT IMHO a top-class dj who can't fucking mix a bootleg containing one his own productions (Hidden Flight) with the track itself (Flight 643) cannot fucking be No.1 (Trainwrecked it @ Dance Valley 01, Dutch Dimensions 02 and even when i saw him live @ Athens 31.08, i bet there are plenty similar occasions... )anyway....

i think this year's award should go to Sasha, even though i'm not a prog-fan myself. The guy got his first ever album out and many people loved it, Beauty Never Fades, Bloodlock, Wavy Gravy and the Xpander/Cowgirl bootleg were f00king amazing and when it comes to mixing...it doesn't get much better than Sasha people! U gotta hand it to the proggy DJ's when it comes to mixing. (i listen to trance myself but still i gotta admit it). As I said it's just MY OPINION!

(But PvD lower than Sleepweed???? YOU GOTTA BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!)
