Went on a small frenzy last week
- Bought Audient ID4 as I'm rebuilding a small in-the-box studio from scratch.
- Some samples from Ghosthack
- Soundtoys suite.

Still looking for good pointers on proper samples. Hard to find some that I find engaging... Specifically looking for
Hiphop,
Trap,
House,
DnB
Liquid DnB,
Lush pad.
layered Pianos
(putting off the obvious buy of Omnisphere and Keyscape, but maybe I shouldn't bother looking elsewhere)

Hints appreciated

Hello, I took some time off to reflect on my wellness so I came back.

Got Fabfilter Pro Q 3 and Pro L -2.

Behringer Pro 1 Rack Synth - Great investment

Will be getting Roland MC 101 Sampler Groovebox.

🤠 Recently picked up D16 Antresol & RC-20 Retro Color. I don't plan on using RC-20 on a whole mix, just instrument parts to make them sound as if they were ripped from vinyl. Also picked up JST Soar for $9 at JRRShop, Hybrid 3 at Plugin Boutique for $4 & scored Reason Lite Rack & Voltage Modular Nucleus 2 for free. Sonible Summer Sale netted me Smart:Comp from Best Service. I'm going to run its spectral ducking thing on every lead/vocal on my tracks.

🐻 Wouldn't mind one of those grooveboxes either. Waiting on a sale. These EOFY sales have been pretty disappointing. I think Roland has a policy of not allowing partner resellers to list products on ebay. What I can't decide on is if I want a Groovebox, TR-8S or Digitakt. I think something like Digitakt would be great as it gives me both drums & sampling mangling. If I had 3K I'd get the Octatrac--thinking real hard if I should access my super early like other people affected by covid are. Not sure if I want to live past 70 anyway!

🦉 I'm thinking of splashing out on a reverb. These are my contenders: Sonsig Rev-A, Seventh Heaven (non-Pro), or Cinematic Rooms. The last two are by LiquiSonics & the first one is Relab. Mostly for trance & classical. Which would you go for?
[Edit: I went for Cinematic Rooms. I may pick up Seventh Heaven on Black Friday]

🦉 Orange Tree Samples Group Buy

🐻 Even if you don't need any more sample libraries check out their Mind Control add-on for Kontakt. It allows you to add multiple sample libraries & create rules for how KONTAKT should automatically switch between sample libraries, making sequencing or performing more convenient and intuitive. The switching can be based on simple elements like pitch, velocity, or controller ranges as well as more advanced ones, such as your own latching and non-latching keyswitches. You can even add randomness into the equation!

Current wishlist: Gullfoss, soothe2.

Some of my recent acquisitions.

Strymon Magneto

Modal Argon8

Arturia Audiofuse 8pre

Got a bunch of the Arturia FX included with the 8pre which are pretty nice and also decided to update the V Collection from V3.

@Storyteller - I use Splice a bit these days for samples as it allows you to be pretty selective about which samples you want. You don't need to fork out for entire packs.

🦉 If you buy this month's issue of Beat magazine you can claim a free copy of D16 Sigmund delay FX & a 50% off code to a future D16 purchase.

🐻 You've probably got enough delay FX but if you are a hoarder like me there is always room for one more.

Buy the issue here: https://www.zinio.com/au/beat-m37585

Claim the VST here: https://www.serialcenter.de/?changelang=en

OSC/Pilot

🦉 There's a whole set of new flavours but these ones are sex.

Posted by Teezdalien on Aug-29-2020 22:27:

Not a fan, of that design or behringer in general.

Posted by cryophonik on Aug-30-2020 15:47:

Roland and every other synth manufacturer: "it can't be done for less than $1M!!!"

Behringer: "hold my beer and watch this"

🦉 New synth & it's currently free.

🐻 Yo, Maschine is going stand-alone. I wants it. Need. To. Start. Saving.

Been playing around with this...I gotta admit. Pretty freakin impressive

Yes RX is pretty essential if you deal with any types of recordings. I use it regularly. I was cleaning up a bunch of vinyl rips using RX over the weekend.

Posted by Mel David on Sep-15-2020 06:17:

🦉 I use RX for the absolute final mastering step. Its wave analysis tells me how loud the track is in dB LUFS as well as the sample peaks. So if I miss the target loudness I can do final gain adjustments, remove DC offset, truncate, etc. I was totally fine with the Elements version but upgraded to Music Production Suite 3 during a sale last month so I now have Standard but still with version 7. You can absolutely get by with the Elements version of Ozone & RX for all your mastering needs. If you already have EQ, compressor & brickwall limiter plugs, then you can get by with just RX.

🐻 This Sennheiser HD6XX drop looks good. You're getting the HD650 for half the price. I might actually go for this. I've gassed for HD600/650 for years.

🐻 Would you get a Behringer Prophet-5 clone? Rumours are they are also cloning the Virus. No, not the Crooner Virus but the hardware synth. All the trance guys keep banging on about the Virus but it's always been out of my financial reach & even if I managed to get one, I would never gig with it. I still haven't decided what rhythm machine to get. The options get bigger & bigger, what with the release of the stand-alone Maschine & TR-6S.

This is not a clone as in a emulator, this is a complete retool of 1,2,3 & 4 with the options to use all of them.

I think Dave Smith is just taking the piss at this point... In 2020 you're willing to pay stupid sums of money for re-issued tech from 70's/80's? Like Moog, just taking the absolute piss.

I mean it's gonna be something like 5 grand here at least, and doesn't even have any on-board fx to work with.. The Prophet 6 would be a smarter choice if you're actually in the market for a high end poly at the moment.
Yeah I get the heritage and history of the Prophet 5, but this is clearly priced just for collector types, for bragging rights of having an actual Prophet 5, and as a huge barrier to entry for the average producer. Like making stuff only for the elites, not for actual musicians. I find it hard to believe that there's no way it could actually be made to be more affordable in 2020.

Posted by cryophonik on Oct-07-2020 00:33:

These DSI/SC reproductions arent really aimed at producers, particularly not hobbyists, IMO. Its more aimed at old dudes like myself who owned analog synths back in the 70s/80s and now have enough expendable income to buy one (no, Im not going to buy one, but its cool to see a new Rev).

Posted by Teezdalien on Oct-07-2020 19:13:

Guess I was being a bit harsh. I suppose it's nice to have nice things. Not my cup of tea but, can't say it's not a nice instrument.

Posted by cryophonik on Oct-07-2020 21:04:

But if you buy one then you can go on gearslutz and tell everybody that you can TOTALLY hear the indiscernible differences between the new version and the older ones. Thats the real reason people buy them.

3500$ US - As for onboard fx, I am unsure I would actually want that. I mean, I would rather pair them with my own hardware personally just for the flexibility and options.
Plus, what kind of build like this can you get in other types for the price. It's wood, hand crafted. Yea, you can get cheaper but as I always say, you get what you pay for. Otherwise I'd just go with a Behringer 12.
Is it novel? Absolutely. Do I want? Absolutely

No doubt this will happen!

Argue? lol Nah...It's all personal preference man. To each his own. I guess I am one of those "old" guys Dave was talking about

Posted by cryophonik on Oct-08-2020 17:51:

My only GAS these days is Keyscape. Its the only Spectrasoncis instrument I dont own. Cant decide if I should just buy it now, or hold off until Black Friday... hmmmmm
