Whew...didnt finish last! Haha..just kidding
Hey Rbb Thanks for the comments. I would also like to thank the judges for taking their time to listen to the mixes. Next competition(s) I will try to improve my mix. This was my first music competition period for anything so I hastily slapped together a bunch of songs w/out any attention to the overall mix. I think including the break-beat style songs in the middle killed me...Ouch..
I thought it would be interesting to break up the regular 4-step beat but I did it wrong
Anyway here was my tracklist:
Marco Bailey - Intro (In retrospect...Bad cheezy intro)
Chakra - Doors
Oceanlab - Beautiful Together (Signum mix)
Darude - Music (Bostik Remix)
Aly & Fila - Eye of Horus (Ronski speed remix)
BT - Godspeed (Hybrid remix)
Beat Pushers - Saving Grace
Moby - Bodyrock (Hybrid mix)
Avatar - Red Planet (Dj Wag mix)
Pulsedriver - I Dominate you (Scot Project Mix)
Isis - Quadrant
Decoy & Roy - Innerlife (Nord Bonk mix)
Fire & Ice - Heart and Mind

There ya go...Hope to do better next time..maybe halfway!!!

I liked the breaks. It added a different element which made your mix stand out for me

You're welcome, was fun being a judge and I'm looking forward to the next time.

And as far as your break-beat style songs were concerned: it's great to hear some experimenting with different styles, but in my opinion there were a bit too much break-beat or different style tracks in your set.

Better luck next time!

Sad sad results for me... Congrats to Pez tho! I'm looking forward to listen to the others' sets, and listen to all judges' opinions, feedback would be really nice. BTW rbb's comments are exceptionally well done, I think all jugdes should so something like it even though the low scores for tunes not being totally trance are a bit rough IMHO, since the rules extended from progressive to psychedelic. Just a thought.

Question

im just curious why sometimes the last few songs were not judged in a couple mixes, and why i was the only one that got 1 general impression.

There we go. Thanks a lot for the comments, I saved them for future reference. And thanks to all the judges for taking the time to do this

Mostly because the comments were typed *after* listening to the mixes or when listening to them for the second time.

After listening to the mixes, the general impressions were only written down if there were some specific points I wanted to mention. That wasn't always the case, which is why some people got more general impressions then others.

For those who are interested, I will start really soon a thread for the 3rd one, I don't say exactly when because it would be unfair, but stay tuned

And also, sorry for not posting comments 'bout your mixes but I didn't wrote notes when judging them, and I should listen every mix for a 3rd time to write notes, and I really don't have the time, exams are coming, you all know what I mean... study study study

A lull is a quiet, slow or beatless part in a track. In a trance track it's often the floaty part where there is no beat and just strings or singing.

rbb just a question, im not sure what generic trance is, u also put some other styles when u went through my mix that i wasnt familiar with... is generic dream trance or what... let me know, and thnx for the comments

Generic trance is bland, uninspired trance. Stuff you'll find thirteen in a dozen on every standard trance CD and that doesn't stand out in a set.

Dreamy, floaty trance is exactly what the name says

Posted by DjCommisad on Jun-06-2003 16:44:

Omg, count me in for the 3rd competition!!!! That would be so awesome. I doubt I'll win, but just to enter such a competition would be awesome, and to get back critical feedback would be even better!

Posted by PEZ68 on Jun-06-2003 18:50:

ok , my tracklist were 0% original at the beginning but when I made it i didn t know it was the mix i will upload

I have some suggestions for the mp3 dj mix competition, if that's ok

first of all i think there should be the same judges for all the competitions so the results of each one can be compared

it would be nice if the best mix could be posted in "live sets"

and i also think there should be a HISTORY OF MP3 DJ MIX COMPETITION whitch contains infos about the previous competitions (scores, best mix ever, worst mix ever)

Well this would be really hard to do, but is a grand idea.

Or at least somewhere that we can have a crack at downloading it. Newsgroups are great for that.

It'd be cool if their thoughts/reviews of each of the mixes and their scores be posted on a website somewhere. I'm sure someone with webspace could easily hook that up...me for example (I've got 3 more webspaces I can add to my @shaw account, 10Mb each so).

I gotta keep my eye out for the 3rd compo as I'd like to enter too . I entered one of the 'Battle of the Mixers' comps and scored a 79% which IMO is pretty damn good! I'd like to see what I can do now .

Same judges for every competitions is nearly impossible, you could never know if you will always have the time to judge all the mixes, because it takes a lot of time.

For the second request, good idea, starfox shared his mix on the dc hub when he won the first one...

For the history... there were only 2 competitions so far, it takes about 3 months / battle, I don't know if stats would be really useful. You are supposing to do this for fun, not to blame someone because he did the worst mix ever,... Just use the search buton to find the old results

Peace
