whats wrong with that? the only thing that comes out of having a girl better than you is...improvement since she can teach you. i donno i woudlnt mind that i need all the help i can get lol

Posted by sirhiss on Apr-14-2003 00:30:

Yeah you have a point, but i meant if your girlfriend gets better than you after you teach her.

I dunno, I guess im just petty and sexist

Posted by DjJade on Apr-14-2003 00:58:

yea i see your point in that but i guess im just used to it... i taugh my roomate about how to work out at the gym and now he is bigger stronger and in better shape than i. plus my girlfriend is better at everyhting than i am so it woudlnt be a surprise whenever i teach her. shes one of those naturally-talented-at-everything people lol. i guess i improve all around in everything through osmosis or something...

Posted by Arsalan on Apr-14-2003 01:41:

i want a girlfriend dj so i can do battles with her, that would rock.

Posted by Rememberence_ on Apr-14-2003 02:03:

now that'd be cool to do arsalan! unless she's into spinning modern hip hop and r&b... that would make for a sickening set or two

I reckon it would depend on the girlfriend on whether I'd like to share music with her or not... not in a selfish or secretive manner, but just that sometimes you don't want to share every single thing in life with a partner. After all, many people have an extremely strong passion for music; it could make a bit of an impact if you had expected your g/f to take an interest and just doesn't eh? Just a few thoughts.

It certainly would be exciting to meet a chick and find that you had this same interest in common, and shared those passions from the start.

dknylady - okies well don't forget to message me when you've finished it!

oh my god, you guys are making me want a dj boyfriend sooo bad!
i would love to have battles with him...and share vinyl...and talk about techniques, equipment, and other stuff with him..that would just be so awesome! unless he spun hip hop, that would be a lot less fun. ugh.

and don't get worried about your g/f getting better than you..unless she goes out and gets her own set of dex, and starts practicing like crazy...she won't get good at all just using your dex once in a while, trust me...

just feel lucky if you have found a girl who likes trance (assuming that's what you like), b/c i think most people who are into this music are guys.

i just love being a girl dj!

My ex-es aren't too crazy into dance music. I'll be lucky if one even likes it. Having a dj gf would be nice though. Unless she spins drum n bass and insists on spinning it in my apt. And I wish my gf would be better than me in spinning. Maybe she can teach me something.

To be honest... any friend who's a DJ and lives near me would be cool. I feel like I'm being so anti-social when I'm in my apt spinning for hours.

yeah, exactly! I made my gf promise to spend at least an hour mixing, and she did it, now she has a better understanding. The funniest part was when she had the two tracks going together, volumes the same, but the bass down on one.

I said, "OK, when the beat changes, turn this bass knob down, and this one up", and she did it, right at the perfect time too. Only thing was, she turned them ALL THE WAY, and on my mixer where the bass frequency is very wide, it just about blew the speakers!

oh well, at least she grasps what it is that i am doing now. she gives me tips too, like "Don't let the vocals play overtop of another song" good one right there!

this thread has officially been hi jacked

personally, theres no point in teaching ur girl to mix unless she has the initiative to. if that isnt the case, she would only be abiding n listening to u because it makes you happy, and if thats the case, whats the point. "mojo turn on", down to zilch. part of the irresistability is the passion for the music, and taking that passion to another level to want to create music, mix music and share it. or it could just be the headphones on a girl *shrug* i'm attracted to tomboysih qualities. oh man, baseball caps on some girls *drool*. anyway, i digress. i also dont think i'd like to have a gf who's as fanatical about trance. i think i'd prefer if she was passionate about another genre. in that way, ur eyes will be opened to a better appreciation of say, that genre, through her. and coming to a common ground with both thru djing, i'm sure thru that, u'll learn a shit load more skills and develop interesting mixing ideas!

now, did that make sense?

edit:

caps n bandannas *yum*

Chicks dig that stuff. Uplifting female vocals attracts females like fly on shit. :-d!

I'll trade u my Vestax 275 plus some cash for ur DJM if nobody wants to buy mine......

Personally, the Vestax is a good mixer if you just love to mix Trance....I spin Hip Hop and other genres so it kinda does not "click" with me. I love it dearly but I should have saved my money for a DJM since I need the extra channel and the effects.

If I had a women that was into it and loved to do the above, I'd be happy......Only one thing though, I would NOT let her touch the $20 + records. I don't even touch them that much....those are like sacred or something.......

i have to agree with that...all the girls i know who like trance only like melodic stuff, mainly with the female vox...
me, heheh, no! i like it the exact opposite..hard and with deep dark male vocals which *aren't* singing...stuff like acid nightmare, dj shredda-chainsaw...drugface-fat as f&ck....i really don't like whiney females singing about loooove and sappy stuff like that. so cheesey!

hehe, yeah no point in letting anyone touch your $20 records. what do they need to touch it for? i always get nervous when one of my friends (or someone else) hovers around my set up..ever notice how they like to flip switches, turn the knobs, and flip the xfader on your mixer , even when it's off??? why do they do that???!!! ahhh!

Posted by DJ Chrono on Apr-14-2003 23:31:

yeah, and when they ask to spin and then knock the needle off onto the turntable base! AHHRRRRRRR happened too many times to me.

Posted by dJohn on Apr-14-2003 23:38:

Even though it'd be nice to have a chick that spins, having a chick that's not into that kinda stuff is just as cool as well...she'll be that much more fascinated or not-knowledgable...kinda adds to the electronica DJ mystique...

Hip hop as in commercial radio shit like Nelly and Ja Rule, or hip hop as in battle breaks and cuts? If you've ever seen a live turntablist show, then you'll know why I ask.

LOL sooo true..... that drives me nuts when people touch my stuff ive had 3 records and 5 needles damaged that way nowadays i take the needles off to prevent any dmg.....

Posted by JohnSmith on Apr-15-2003 00:16:

eh, wanna know a great tip for that? (now that this thead has been officially hijacked)

On technics, you can use the little lever thing to make your needles not drop down that far. there is a lever that you can use to lift the needle off the record and put it down if you want, but most people just use their fingers. What you can do is set the height of the needle to JUST below where the record is playing, but not quite low enough so that the needle will drop onto your pitch dots if someone drops it.

great tip i picked up from dj_skywarp here.. hmm, where is that guy, i haven't seen him for a while.

that makes the most traumatizing noise when it hits the edge of the platter

yeah I think you did the right decicion...the djm 500 is in a higher league than the 275 (for exapmple DJM 300 and PCV 275 is in the same league and DJM 600 and A&H xone 62 are in the same league....just so you know what I mean with leagues )
