The bpm counter on Traktor isn't perfect, so you won't get a good beatmatching on every transition if u use it, but in some may work just fine.

What I mean is:

Let's say I play a track that Traktor says it has 138bmp. OK, now I put on the other track. It says 139bpm, so I pitch it down to 138bmp. I just need to align beats and everything should be just fine. But it's not. After a few sec (7-15) the tracks will get out of synch, even if Traktor says 138bpm on both. That's because the counter isn't that good. So I need to pitch up or down the 2nd track so that it will be matched to the other. In many transitions when I beatmatch there is a counter error of 0.2-0.4bpm. So I'd say the beatmatching isn't as easy at in looks. If u want good beatmatching u need to do it the hard way, by ear. Although u can have a decent beatmatching using the auto method.

DJ Koolaide....

... Are you really only 15????

Posted by Rockabye on Aug-27-2004 05:39:

I must admit that I use the beat grid to bring all tracks to the accect bpms. but also this isnt 100% correct and tracks didnt hold the same bpm over full length...

and it wasn't easy to create an accurat beat grid for some hundreds or thousands of tracks...

that's what i do.

but right now traktor keeps skipping, meaning either i have driver issues or there's a virus that norton 2004 isn't detecting.

Posted by noikeee on Aug-28-2004 10:43:

i go further in the scale of lameness by using atomix and its beat graphic maybe it should be considered cheating and disallowed. anyway this competition is anything but serious, just something for fun.. at least from my point of view

Yes I'm 15. Will be 16 in January.

Posted by djsphere on Aug-30-2004 05:02:

Not so many mixes in this competition and the deadline is almost here. Anyway, because the server wasn't working properly in the first 10 days of the month you can still submit your sets any time this week. So until 5th of September. Good luck!

thannnkkk youu!!!
i think i finally have my computer working right, i formated and reinstalled all the drivers.

except now i spend the next few days working, so finding time is an issue, hehe ;D

thanks for the extension. i know it sucks for those that got their mixes in, but on the other hand, it gives you more competition. coming 1st out of 3 is not as fun as coming 1st out of 16. =)

good luck to all, again, and have fun! i'll post a tracklist once i get it uploaded, hoping that is i get it mixed asap and uploaded!

Posted by Marius L. on Aug-30-2004 08:59:

Just came here to tell, that i'll be mixin mine on 31 august night,so i'd be late a lil bit, but thanks to djsphere i won't be late

Posted by djsphere on Aug-30-2004 09:39:

Happy to see that the extension helps some of you, but judges should know that I still expect their results until 1st of October.

Posted by Rockabye on Aug-30-2004 09:49:

I didn't know if it was discussed yet, but I would be happy if the judges would make some notes for each mix where they tell us what they like about the mix and what not.

In this way, we get more feedback than just the results and see where whe can do better next time

Just some short sentences about the track selection, the flow of the match and for example transitions they like and dislike...

Yap, that would be great rather then pure marks. Some of them posted comments to. I'm not sure but as far as I can remember DJ.MD was a judge in Competition II, and he had some great comments on each transition in everyone's mix.
