Google Music Trends

http://www.google.com/trends/music?genre=Electronica

With the new version of Google Talk(released today), you can configure it to send Google the titles of the songs you are listening to. Google then collects that information and produces music "trends", basically top 20.. per genres

Here is the current top 10 in Electronica:
1 Starry Eyed Surprise Paul Oakenfold
--
2 Why DJ Sammy
--
3 You Make It Easy Air
New!
4 Raindrops Stunt
8 +8
5 One More Time Daft Punk
--
6 You & Me Uniting Nations
New!
7 Aerodynamic Daft Punk
-1 -1
8 Sexy Boy Air
New!
9 She Got Me On Paul Johnson
-2 -2
10 Inspiration [Sunshine Funk Remix] Ian VanDohl - Web Search
7 +7
11 Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger Daft Punk
-3 -3
12 Give It Kurt Wagner; X-Press 2 - Web Search
7 +7
13 I Could Let You Love Me [DB Boulevard Club Mix] Tempramentals
7 +7
14 I See Girls [Tom Neville Crazy Legs Remix] Studio B
New!
15 Waz Not Waz Eric Prydz; Steve Angello - Web Search
-12 -12
16 Breathe Prodigy, The
New!
17 Teardrop Massive Attack
New!
18 We Interrupt This Programme [Interrupted Vocal ... Coburn
-14 -14
19 Sigin' in the Rain [Storm in a Double DD Cup Re... Mint Royle - Web Search
New!
20 Hide and Seek Imogen Heap

I imagine this top 20 will change significantly within a few weeks, because the number of contributing users should increase dramatically as people are auto-updated to new version, and enable this functionality.
Pretty cool !

google talk is so far the only free program I know that I can use with my blackberry to also access MSN for free.
I haven't installed it yet though..

SO FUNNY, Ilyia, I was -JUST- about to post this right now! Just read about it - You beat me to the punch w/ ur insider info!

Google Music Trends

Google just added a new entry into their robots.txt file "Disallow: /trends/music?". Well, that would naturally get me wondering what they are trying to hide. It turns out they have a new labs project Google Music Trends.

Where does the data come from? Remember the new feature in Google Talk that lets users display what they are listening to in their status message? The new labs project proudly displays the text: "See what Google Talk users are listening to".

There is also a link that says "Participate in Music Trends" that doesn't have any content yet but I'm guessing it will take you to a Google Talk download page eventually.

Update:

Google just released a new version of the testers version of Google Talk which explicitly asks your permission to share information with this new labs project. See screenshot below.

EDIT:

Already installed the new GTalk this morning before going to work - before I even knew why this was the reason why an update was put out

SWEET DEAL

So, FACK, Google's updated their mess again.

Now, with Personalized Google Page, you have the GREAT option of TABS!

I'm so glad to see this, as MSN.com already had this feature available. It really will makes things cleaner and far more organized and organizable. Nice job.

Additionally, another really ingenious feature they created, was create Google Image Labeler

They're made a game out of improving their Image Search function! What a novel idea. Check it out - the idea is that its something ppl will do when they're bored online.

Id rather do that, I know, than, for example, play one of those games that MSN Messenger lets you play to waste time online when you want to.

Fun things, I'm really impressed w/ these developments.

BTW, that new google "feature" of collecting information about what you listen to has been done for years by last.fm (www.last.fm).

Someone post a screenshot of this TABS stuff?

Just noticed, its only on Google.com, not Google.ca.

Also, if one has installed the Google Calendar feature onto their personalized Google homepage, it is ONLY on Google.com that it will also show an "Agenda" below the calendar of your upcoming events on each date.

Thats really something Google.ca needs to fix and add to the Calendar function!

how the hell do they manage to do this? you can even turn left and right lol

Posted by DigiNut on Jun-01-2007 00:47:

Street View is pretty cool, too bad it's only in small areas of 5 U.S. cities right now. I wonder how they plan on expanding it and keeping that up to date... I'm sure that this data isn't coming from NAVTEQ, is it? Or are they just going to do it in a few limited areas?

JetBlue Adding Real-Time Google Maps In-Flight

Low-cost American airline JetBlue announced yesterday they have struck a deal with search giant Google to provide the familiar Google Maps software on the seat-back screens to map the flight's route in real-time. Family and friends will also be able to pull up JetBlue.com and track any flight via the same Google Maps interface.

In celebration of the deal, JetBlue is running a contest called "JetBlue Point of View." All you have to do to enter is take a picture from the window of any JetBlue flight between June 4th and September 3rd and email it to [email protected]. Winners will be selected based on "aesthetic presentation, creativity, design, and audience appeal" on September 10th, and the top ten photos selected will earn their taker two free round-trip tickets to and from anywhere JetBlue flies.
