It was a decent match as it was PSV that kept up a fast pace throughout the match, with Lyon seem very dead at times and not at its best. The wingers Farfan and Park Ji Sung gave a lot of trouble, but it was Lyon that went first through Wiltord goal capitalizing on a bad clearance by PSV defence. Second half, it was Lyon with a bad clearance and PSV defender makes no mistake to put the game 1-1. Lyon defender Cris nearly took the game with one chance that was cleared off the line and one acrobatic attempt just an inch right of the post. Park Ji Sung was making a pest of himself and he nearly scored with a thundering drive that was just high.
Didn't see the extra time. Stupid TSN, because Lyon had a penalty appeal turned down. Actually, the ref was... iffy with calls I thought.

So, the semis are Liverpool vs Chelsea and PSV vs Juventus.

And I only got 2/4 right this round on my predictions. Bah humbug.

Beasley was operating fantastically on the right flank, hes such an exciting player to watch and a very hot prospect at only 22. You have to admire Hiddinks tactics, hes achieved tremendous success with very limited resources. However out of the two sides I think Lyon would be much more capable of giving AC a better run for their money. The critical moment between PSV and OL was Govus miss in the first leg when he was all alone in front of the net, that was possible the biggest miss in this years Champions League.

Soccecentral is on at 11:30 tonight, Im sure there will be plenty of talk about the disturbance in Milan, Im really curious as to what Craig and Jerry will have to say about it. I hope they have enough common sense to not call on a flare ban, I want to hear Craigs opinion on the situation.

It's weird, because Beasley is left footed and Park is right footed, so they were playing on their not natural wings. But yeah, I expect Farfan, Park and Beasley to give Cafu, Kaladze and Maldini run for their money on the flanks.

And you can outtalent Lee and Park, but you can't outwork them most of the time. Good on Gus Hiddink for getting the most out of his players, as Lyon didn't show up for a lot of the tie.

While were on the subject of metalita Ultras lets take this thread to another direction:

I got an exam in 3 hours but I just stumbled onto a nice TIFO site with several quality Ultras videos ( as someone already stated, you have to know your priorities ), so heres a pre-game show in Istanbul to start it off :

I know what you're saying and I hope they don't have a continent wide ban on Flares but Italy hasn't exactly set the example for UEFA to judge by amd I think that was why alot of people were really pissed at the Cuva Nord more than anything. I've been used to the hard rules on any sort of Pyro in Spain; you light off a flare, it's 3000 Euros and a stadium fine unlike in Greece, Italy for example where there are basically no rules on them. Everyone wants to see pyro used for the right reasons in the stadiums; the beauty they bring a stand is unquestionable, but I can see why when UEFA see's complete morons like in Inter or Lazio or Roma or Messina or Torino or whoever throwing them at innocent players, is it really worth the consequenses it can bring from that?

Stadium ban and fine for Inter
Friday, 15 April 2005

UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body has ordered FC Internazionale Milano to play their next six European club competition matches behind closed doors. Of these six matches, the last two are under a probationary period of three years according to Article 15 bis of the disciplinary regulations.

Fine handed out
This means that if a further offence is committed during the probationary period, the disciplinary body may order the original sanction to be executed in addition to disciplinary sanctions for the second offence. In addition, Inter have been fined 300,000 CHF.

Milan go through
The UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie has been awarded to AC Milan as a 3-0 forfeit and Milan therefore go through to the semi-finals on a 5-0 aggregate. An appeal against any of these decisions can be submitted within three days from the receipt of the written grounds.

so what if they ever face AC Milan again at San Siro ?? no fans for both teams ? lol ..

Posted by starsearcher on Apr-15-2005 17:41:

LOL...yeah good question (I guess that won't happen within the next 4-6 games)

Posted by Yohan on Apr-23-2005 18:28:

Here are the matchups which starts next tues/wed. (And my predictions)

Liverpool vs Chelsea
-Chelski to win 5-3 on aggregate
-Liverpool had a good run. I'm quite surprised pleasantly how the Reds made it this far, considering all the injuries they had. Now that they have more of a full squad, perhaps they can pull an upset, esp if Cisse and Gerrard plays well, supported by Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia.
But Chelski... well, they're the best team in the Premiership and Lampard is playing very, very well. Drogba is also doing well and Chelski depth may be hard to beat. I just can't see Raffa beating Jose.
Things look grim for Liverpool as they lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace of all teams while Chelski cruise past Fulham 3-1.

Yeah, Liverpool has played good in Europe, but Chelski isn't an European team...

PSV Eindhoven vs AC Milan
-AC Milan to win 2-2 on away goals
-It'll be easy for most people to pick Milan to win, considering it's PSV they're against. But even though I'm also calling Milan to win, it's very easy for PSV to pull an upset and one reason being Gus Hiddink. That guy loves being underdog and pulling upsets. He gets everything out of his squad most games.
Milan's defence is solid, but Stam, Nesta and Maldini are all getting kinda slow and may have trouble against pace of Park, Beasley and Farfan attacking the wings. Von Bommel may have one of the best freekicks and it takes one cross for him and Vennegoor of Hesselink to put it in. If Milan can stop PSV's pace and defend from deadball situations, they'll win. If not, milan is in for some world of hurt.

3 hours to go before the Chelsea - Liverpool game... and I'm supposed to be studying for my final exam tomorrow (yeah right!)

Posted by starsearcher on Apr-27-2005 15:32:

^^^ That'll be a big one!!!!!

Posted by TheVrk on Apr-27-2005 17:41:

Beautiful win by my boys, the Rossoneri, 2-0
Didn't play great but got the job done.

As for today, Chelsea v Liverpool....
I'd be shocked if Chelsea doesn't win this game/tie....
Just too strong for Liverpool, but you NEVER know.
I say 3-1 Chelsea today

Posted by Crazy Serb on Apr-27-2005 21:27:

DAMN!

tied game, no goals... 0-0... fack!

Mourinho brought out all the guns, and that still didn't help... Robben in 60th min (HE'S BACK, BABY, HE'S BACK!!!), Kezman in 78th... and still nothing.

I guess that will make the next week's match A LOT more interesting. Do or Die! Just the way I like it...

Posted by TheVrk on Apr-27-2005 22:57:

Def surprised with the 0-0 scoreline....
Liverpool played just as they had hoped, so they have a chance.
I still favour Chelsea to win in Liverpool next week,
but it's gonna be a fuckin great game

Posted by Irish Graham on Apr-28-2005 01:07:

what a game!!!! im so glad the scoucers done well. They looked great in defence and they had the best chance in the game only cech made a great save to deny milon baros. Every neutral fan who follows the premiership wants the pool to beat chelsea as they have been so cocky in the way they have run away with the title, won the league cup and have the chance of playin in a european cup final. When you have the cash you can play fantasy football!! But how great would it be if steve gerrard and the boys could put on a great preformance infront of the kop and get revenge for that sunday in cardiff when jose lost the plot!!! from a man utd fan who for once wants to see liverpool win YOU"L NEVER WALK ALONE

im glad you said that and not me .... so il just add "im with you on that one"

although the only complications that may arise are that should liverpool lift the trophy and everton claim fourth who will be allowed to play in the CL. The fa will prolly give the nod to liverpool and i would like everton play in the CL next year ... on the plus atleast steven gerrard would still stay at anfield instead of adding to the growing list of abramovich's bitches

YEESH a liverpool - milan final's gonna be as boring as it gets ...both teams emphasise defence ... they might as leave the ball in midfield and have a picnic on their respective ends until the penalty shootout

Dunno

unsophisticated football.

i LOVE liverpool. i have for years. today's game was unfulfilling. not bc of the lack of scoring, but the play itself. what was liverpool doing? "set plays" have not worked their last few uefa matches. those short corners were a waste!! they had, what? maybe three corners the whole match..and two of them were nowhere near the box. in fact, they didn't even get a metre from the corner!! and those free kicks with the 'decoy' oh, chelsea could have been blind and still have seen them coming. passes to no man's land...passes to chelsea, not even interceptions!! ugghh..fancy football isn't working for my reds. tactical football that benitezz is emphasizing, fine, whatever. just make sure these plays are sucessful...cuz chelsea is a strong team and this shit doesn't cut it.

i miss the days of fowler and macca...*sigh*

go reds go

They were trying not to lose, and they didnt.
Coaches/clubs for the most part dont care how attractively
they play, they just wanna win. Doesnt matter how.

0-0 was ugly but Liverpool got everthing they could hope for.
They're counting on winning @ home, and thats all they have 2 do

oh, i completely understand that they were trying not to lose. they played the same way today as they did against juve second leg. but beware of the away goal!!

as a fan, i like the esthetics of the game, too. i don't need a high score, but i'd like to see the skill they are capable of. i appreciate that side of the game. it's doesn't have to be all brasilian finess-like. watching keep away is meh.

sad but true ... but when you got a striker like shevchenko whos born to score goals ...its a bit disappointing when his teams style of play doesnt allow him to do that ... that guy prolly kiked his umbrical cord back into his moms uterus when he was born ...

plus you got kaka, seedorf and pirlo who like to bang them in... with a lineup like that its just weird milan dont play more offence considering their defence is unbreachable neway with maldini and nesta to take care of things ... a milan - chelsea final would actually be as good as it gets this year before Man U come back to claim whats theres

Stupid Milan...

Mind you, PSV had their chances, but just that lack of finishing touch hurt them. There's a chance that PSV might come back next week playing at home, if they can outrun and outwork Milan like last game. (And Vennegoor of Hesselink is fully fit)

Really surprised about the Chelski - Scousers game. Lampard should have had that header, but oh well. Should be very interesting game next week.
