That's what i think exactly too!

Think of it as advertising....i bought SYmsonic....not because i heard some random DJ play tunes from it in a club...but because i downloaded Black Snow and wanted more sounds from you guys.

Let me make one thing clear: i am talking about people who download, enjoy but don't pay, not people like you who do!

And p2p is not the only media to listen to new music. Internet radio, live sets and online shops do provide the same tracks.

For you to sit there and honestly say that trance, techno and even house would be where it is today

Did i say that? I said i can't tell, just like you can't tell it did!

ANd not for nothing...but the majority of people i download from are Europeans...not Americans or Canadians....go figure.

Well they can't be stopped. And it is still a form of advertising.

Could point...do you support downloading of and sharing live sets of your gigs or Piets alone?

Sure, but I think Internet is the connecting key not p2p. If p2p hadn't been there still people would get a way to get to listen to tracks and new styles.

Yes no problem for me.

If someone has bought 15 or so of your tracks, how would you felt if he downloaded 4-5 to listen to?

Because of that, you don't need as much promotion as someone starting out or less successfull. Rank 1 would survive without filesharing, others wouldnt.

True..

Take a scenario where Airwave never existed. Do you think that all your follow up singles and album would of sold as many as they did if it wasnt for Airwave's success. I'd never heard of you till Airwave and then afterwards i backtracked your discog and found your kamaya painters material etc. Image and reputation are everything.

Strayign off the point a little but just throughing in another angle
Okay, thats a fact, but remember that we started without that reputation once too.. But thats the way it works off course.

That's a trick question!
If that listening is only a try before you buy listening, I would not have a really big problem with it. As long as they buy it if they really like it.

im saying if he felt the 4-5 were average, and did not buy them. but bought the other 10-15 on vinyl.

Average & below average is different for everybody. I don't bother, i just don't listen to things i don't like

Posted by McP68 on Aug-03-2005 19:11:

ok

1. try before buy (mp3)
2. if it's good -> buy

some tracks are very hard to get them (limited copies or tracks that never released on vinyl or cd)

Posted by _Ocean_Drive_ on Aug-03-2005 19:28:

Ok then, you build Plasma TVs for a living. You yourself. You've parid for the course to learn how to make them, put all the money into buying the materials to make them.

You then SELL them to distributors who happily give you a good sum for them.

But someone takes one of the ones that you've made. Although you've got plenty of others that you could sell, you didn't get the money for one of them, which makes you feel like you've been robbed off x

shouldn't DJ's take the first step if they want the country to buy records? not that i know anything about the market for trance in the US, just generally.

Sure but i think most of them do actually, or get them for free from record companys for promotion. Or isnt that what you meant?

Posted by Floorfiller on Aug-04-2005 14:57:

local dj's in the US use vinyl and cds...i don't know about in other countries hehee

and i'd say for the scene that we do have in the US...a vast majority of the people either want to aspire to dj or are themselves already djs, so there is a lot of vinyl going on. hell like i said earlier...i really just like to collect vinyl first and foremost and if i can someday dj, well than that's awesome, but i just love records hahah

I get promo mp3s and think of it as try before i buy. Every month i spend at least 40 on vinyl. Ive spent over 100 for a month on records loads of times, If i like a song ill get it on record to show some support, and so i can spin it. If i dont like it i wont get it

I know its illegal what im doing, but i personally think the piracy is aimed more towards the mainstream like chart music. Within the trance community recently ive seen more and more people supporting the artists, being it records, cd's, albums or even mp3's via beatport, audiojelly and such like. People seem to be supporting more and more

Without me downloading mp3s i wouldnt hear the music, so i wouldnt know what i liked and so what to buy, Its a catch 22 situation really

Quote from that site http://www.djlivesets.com/policies.html:
It is important to mention that if you are a DJ or recording label truly feels that DJlivesets.com intentions are not plausibly appropriate, we can remove any related material from works of you or recording label and we are willing and open for any negotiation.

That was all? :P

But thx for mentioning it
