I think my ears were broken...
After reading some others reviews, I gotta say, either my ears were broken or I heard something totally different than other people that have posted on this thread....
My night went a little something like this:
Arrived at 10 pm, into the Cool house (haus or however you want to spell it..), listened for a few minutes to Mark Oliver. I commented to others at that point that the sound seemed very "muffled" to me, and it was difficult to hear the set being played. None the less, it wasnt terrible.
I circled around, through the Gov, which sounded good, and was virtually empty at that point and went to the orange room to check out the new design. It looked pretty sweet I must say - and the addition of the lounge area was a welcome change.
The sound was good in the orange room, and the tracks were decent, and after lounging for a while I went back to the Cool House to catch Markus Schultz. I moved to the center of the room which was comforatably full, with room to dance, which was nice for a change. Markus' set started out very slowly, the crowd was ready to rage however, but he didnt seem to pick up on that. The tracks were nice, but far too slow for my taste, and after an hour I was a little numbed and bored by his set so I decided to go back to the orange room.
We went out front of the Guv, following the flow of traffic to get back to the orange room, but we were not allowed to proceed to the Guv main enterance as normal. Instead we were shunted up a set of stairs into the Lounge, and forced down past the Lounge stairs that lead to the Guv Main Room, past the drink and down a fire escape, finally exiting into the Guv Room. In total we spent almost a half an hour standing in a very packed and cramped line, very slowly creeping through the lounge and down the hallway.
This apparently cleared up a short time later as others didnt have to take this route. At first I was a little bit annoyed at this, being shoved down these tight hallways, crammed into small rooms with people pushing and shoving from behind - not cool. I think though that the Guv had this as an alternate route if something went wrong with the main Guv line - which apparently happened - so congrats to them for being organized and having a backup route to get people through the complex.
Anyways.....so back to the Orange room - the beats here were awesome, the sound was great, the room was not packed at all so there was plenty of dancing room - all and all - I had the most fun of the night in the Orange room with the breaks crowd....but...I really wanted to see Blank and Jones, so off we went to the Cool House once again.
Blank and Jones Set: The set was good, but like I said up top - either my ears were broken or the sound was terrible in the Cool House. The entire set overall was muffled, and difficult to hear the High's (no I wasnt wearing ear plugs) and melodic portions. I did enjoy portions of it - and I think Blank and Jones did a great job overall, I danced for most of their 2 hour set, only taking a break due to the heat near the end.
So we stayed for Armin - who wouldnt?
Armin Van Buuren: Im just going to say this up front - I thought his set was terrible. Firstly - the trouble that I heard with the sound (which apparently others didnt) definately caused problems with his set for me. The beat was extremly boring and relatively slow, and had a few melodic notes plugged in at Random. After attempting to dance to his set for an hour I gave up and retired to the bar/seating area in the Cool House to hear the rest - hoping he would recover. The entire set seemed disjointed, lead to nowhere, and didnt inspire any sort of feeling or enjoyment in me. I have seen Armen before - and loved his sets. This however I could barely tolerate. What it amounted to was an extremly heavy bass beat with distorted almost white noise in some portions on the down beat in a slow boring 4/4 pattern whith a random syth note thrown in on top. He also seems to be extensively using the sound of a percussion cow bell to actually mark the down beat because the beats themselves are so deep and drawn out, making any sort of distinction with the beat difficult if not impossible. The lead ups didnt go anywhere, there were no crocendos or real break downs, its almost like he would start to build up to something and then go nowhere but back to the same boring beat.
I did hear his traditional melancholy sound/synth's/piano rolls in some tracks, although he seems to be moving away from this some what.
I stayed for about two hours of his set before giving up and going to the Sky bar. As I said above - could be I had temporary hearing loss for several hours only in the Cool House, or it could be that his set was terrible on top of a poorly setup sound system in the Cool House.
From what I understand Armin has played 3 sets, in 3 different locations which require some what lengthy flights in between, in 3 days. I cant imagine that his 3rd set of the 3 is going to contain any inspiration - in fact the dude was probably pretty damn worn out.
I was thoroughly dissapointed in Armin and the Cool House in General. I did however have a blast in the Orange room and had a great time meeting several of you.
One last thing - The people at Labour of Love were great. Often I run into a lot of rude pushy people which can detract from the night overall. However, just like last year, people were nice, polite and friendly.

what a night...
don't really have time to write a review now but will prolly get around to it tonight.
easily the most packed I have seen the complex which sucks for some and doesnt bother others. Didnt really bother me to much
Markus Schulz - Terrific...i was blown away by his performance
Grayrea - WTF!!!! good idea but wrong damn night in the wrong damn room...Really messed up the vibe i had going after markus schulz.
B&Jones - There was a bit of a issue during their two hour set which led to me not concentrating on the music as much...From what i heard though...brilliant
crowd was rockin...
ARMIN - GOLD!!!!!! harder than ive ever heard him with a fanbase that simply rocked the kool haus...he did however look exhausted.
I had a great night!
I'm STILL tired! Which is a GOOD thing, right?
Lost all my friends at one point, and wound up wandering around with Kris (IT WAS ME!) for a while... I think the Orange room broke my ears though... they are STILL ringing today. I've never had them ring like this before after a party.
All in all I had fun, though... only one scary moment coming back from Skybar into the "red room" (the drink?) through this tunnel... well there were TOO many people trying to get in AND out and it felt like a freaking soccer riot... people were pushing and some people were panicking... it wasn't a good scene, and I think it may have been moments from disaster... not cool.
Other than that, great night, good to see so many smiling faces, and was it just me, or was the "cracky weirdo" count WAAAYYY down for this night?
Shouts to everyone I saw, and regrets to those I missed!
See you all next time!
After waiting in line for over an hour at last year's LoL, I decided to book it early and arrived at the club around 9:45, literally waited for 10mins before I was already in. Got into KH just as MO was dropping Till There Was You, saw a few TAs already there, made my way around to the Guv to see Demi's set. This was the first time hearing him spin and it was pretty damn good, had my feet moving non-stop for basically his entire set. Diggers comes on at exactly 12 and holy crap it was damn crowded I was getting bumped, pushed, shoved left right and centre from every which angle and was a second away of levelling the next person that did that but I thought otherwise cuz I didn't want any negative factors to ruin my night. One of my few trips to the KH, I saw Greyarea and didn't get them at all. The tweaks were so high that it started hurting my damn ears and I usually never have a problem with that.
Spent a couple of hours up at the Skybar listening to my favs Addy and Deko-ze spin. Gotta love the atmosphere up there even though it was rammed up there too. Stayed at the Skybar till it closed and headed back to the Guv for DD at around 8. Sharam was on and he was absolutely killing the Guv. If any TAs were in the Guv at that time there were a couple of songs that were dropped that I really wanna get a hold of. One song had female vocals and was something along the lines of a "bassline" or something I forget. And the other was just two songs before this one with another female vocal. Those two were crazy good.
Anyhow, to wrap things up met a bunch of TAs new and old, sorry Lisa for not coming to say hi when I saw you in KH but I figured I'd get another chance but never happened.
Well here's to Coxy!!! (hopefully)

Wow! What a night, it was jam packed everywhere. It seemed like I was locked in a cage in the guvernment since I couldn't move anywhere and it was hotter than hell in there! Like I didn't have to move at all an swet was pouring down my face! But I must say the KOOL HAUS Was the place to be for most of the night. They had plenty of great DJ's and there was always space to move
Aside from all that, the crowd was bouncing and the atmosphere was flowing! Armin conquered the Kool Haus with an Amazing set, played soo many sweet tracks
After that night I was soo sore in the morning would barely walk, tooo much dancing.. but recovering
*** Does anyone know where I could find the tracks from the tracklist from that night???? ***

Well guys...I MADE IT! I know I told some of you this already, but I almost didn't get there!! My flight was Hawaii was delayed 3 hours because of weather conditions, and I was going to miss my connecting flight...and most importantly...MY RIDE TO TORONTO! I started crying on the plane and my mom was like "It's just a party" to which I answered "No mom...it's not just a party, you don't understand!" Through all the chaos though, Josh found me a ride to Toronto. Thank you SO much
And thanks Mike for waiting so long...everything ended up working out in the end!
It was awesome to see everybody again, though I feel like I saw most people for about 5 minutes (which is what happened!) There were SO many people there, and because so many good acts were on people were spread out all over the place. All in all though, I don't care if I saw some people for a short amount of time, I got to see them period and that's what counts. It was also great to meet so many new faces as well...sorry if I don't remember names! There were a bunch of TAs I DID NOT see however, and many there which I haven't even met yet...that's going to have to change!
In regards to music...holy crap. Such a solid night. Mark Oliver honestly gets better every time I see him. I got to the KH a lot earlier then I usually do, so I heard a lot of his set, and it was great. Markus continued...Blank and Jones as well, and I don't even have to say that Armin did b/c it's guaranteed with him. During Grayarea is when I did most of my walking about. Made it up to Skybar and wasn't actually that impressed, only b/c of the lack of space.
By the end of the night, my legs couldn't move anymore so I had to sit on the side for awhile with Cale. There was no way I was leaving before Armin was finished. I knew the end was near though and I made Cale get up and dance up at the front. (You loved it, I know it) I was sure glad I did, b/c Silence was awesome! Nada found me and I closed the night with her right by the speakers! I'm gonna have to agree with Cale here too...where the FUCK did everybody go at the end of the night. I waited outside for awhile hoping to say goodbye to a fair number of you but I was quite unsuccessful in the mission.
All in all though, I was so glad to have made it to the party. It was great to see many of you again, and hope that we'll all see each other again in the near future.
I'm officialy BAAAACCCCKKKK!!!
Oh and P.S. thank you RJ for letting me know I wasn't dying and breathing normally. I had a nice talk with you..."you're very smart".
JOSH, thanks again for getting me a ride (and thanks Mike for doing what you could for me). I have PROOF now that the old man with the camera, Mr.Chesterfield or Chesterwood, whatever the hell his name is exists. So you have to believe me now!
MIKE (DJ Robben)...I wasn't trying to say you LOOKED like a cartoon character! I was trying to tell you, remember my thread about Kids Cartoons? I posted a picture of a guy with a SIK ass tattoo of a Ninja Turtles head and cross bones. I was saying that the picture reminded me of you. Not because you looked like the cartoon, but b/c the guy I took a picture of looked like you! (Though you can't really see his face)
And JAMIE...you're a jerk for ditching me...bull shit you were looking for me...lies, all lies. Haha just kidding I heart you!!

Marcus *ripped it up* in KH to open the night...hadn't heard him since his appearance at Guv in '04...this man is a brilliant producer and a wicked DJ...aweseome set!!! I would love for him to come back on his own in Guv...one of best nights for me was that '04 appearance for sure...love his style! greyarea...never seen them...great idea, unfortunate execution...the sound system was *fucked* for their set, so I took off for the tent. Nathan Barrato was dropping some great tracks...This is Sick...WICKED TUNE! that almost made my night...cool to see Steve (cereal_something ) and Sara in the tent ![]() Headed up to the lounge, ran into Graham, RJ and Margaret (send the pics!)...Digweed was rippin' it...dropped a track or two from his recent Essential Mix which was *awesome* to hear as it's in the regular rotation at home...very very happy that I managed to catch a bit of his set. 2am...time for Blank & Jones...and HOLY F**K...UBERTRANCE!!! Hate to say it, but B&J upstaged Armin in a big way...such a good set of pure, no-nonsense TRANCE!!! My first time catching them and they were beyond amazing...trance the way it was meant to be played ![]() Armin is Armin...no offense Tijs, but Armin is the #1 DJ in the world...talented producer, excellent DJ, and gets the crowd involved like few others...his energy and enthusiasm is absoultely infectuous...proggy hard set, as is him norm now...but at the end he dropped some monster tracks...Marco V's mix of Clocks was cool to hear, along with Cafe del mar - Energy 52. bailed partway through to hit the skybar for some air and to catch a bit of Demi who was spinning some lower key house...nice to see Nat and Frank up there...after a breather, headed back to KH to shut the place down around 8:30. I can't ever remember that many people being in KH when the lights came on. Hot as hell in KH all night, but plenty of room to dance...sound system was *shit* after B&J...they really need to fix that...otherwise a very solid night...well enough organized and not overly rammed at all in KH. it goes without saying that I will NOT be at work tomorrow |

Labour of Love....
I was the one in the "I'm not Gay... but I'd boink Armin" t-shirt. it was an absolute amazing night. Went to see Armin in Montreal for Swirl-- his set wasn't as good, but it was Armin, so still better then anything I ever heard. When he dropped Cherry Blossom, he damn near dropped me.
Blank and Jones were really cool, played some amazing tracks-- and yea, the Mr. Brightside mix tore it down. It was cool seeing Sean and getting him a happy b-day rev and partying till 8 a.m. hope to meet more of you the next time around...

well. what can I say? That was ONE GREAT NIGHT! but fak! iLLnada, Fahad, Dan.... where were you?
In the middle of the night I saw a guy who looked absolutely same as Fahad, so I ran to him to give a hug and say hello! He was f*king scared of me
Well so was I when I realized that wasn't Fayraree!
It was nice to meet Karim and Jem Hadar and Jon Jon later on. wasn't able to find any other TAs, but I tried hard. Just had to come up to random guys and ask:
are you a tranceaddict by any chanse?
The most common replies were:
- Yes, I do drugs.
- What? tranceaddict? yeah, I like trance.
- Tranceaddict? what's that? oh! tranceaddict.com? Yes, I know what you are talking about, but I'm not familiar with anyone from there.
The Music was absolutely great. It was my first time seeing Armin, so I actually expected more ASOT pop staff from him. But he didn't dissapoint. The set couldn't be better, I was dancing my ass off on top of the box, the one closer to the entrance to KH! 10/10 btw. Moment of the night! Two hot lesbian girls where making out right there in front of me for at least 20 minutes. no comments, you'd better seen it! 10/10 and thanks for a show
Blank & Jones! These guys are my Number 1 DJs! I wish they could just stay for at least one more hour! Enjoyed every second of the set. During their second hour I met my ex-girlfriend who went to Ibiza this summer and asked her if she enjoyed Ibiza more than LOL. And guess what?! She told me that LOL was way better! so 10/10 for B&J
Orange Room! Whoever played there and whenever I got my ass there I just went crazy! Wish my crew enjoyed this type of music little more
9.5/10
Deep Dish. well, that was boring, sorry guys. 3/10
Markus. Not too bad. At least he didn't dissapont me, but also didnt turn on very much. nice and easy
7/10
crowd: mostly very nice people, better than ever before in the Guverment. bowncers, other stuff, thank you guys. Special thanks to that cute waitress who was following me with all these shots. 3 shots of sambuca lighted up in my mouth entertained her, so I deserved a kiss. I'll c ya next time, I know that you're reading it! 8/10 - lots of f*ked up.
my crew: 10/10 of course! Guys, you are great! MidnightClubber, u made our night with all that glow staff!
overall: 9/10 I'd give 10/10 but with such great music playing in three different rooms at the same time... oh boy, I just wanted to cry!
my night: 8/10 Engine9, my best buddy got into the accident and couldnt attend prolly the best night of the year! I missed you a lot, bud! But thanks God you are alive! and the fact that I couldnt find iLLNADA, Fayraree and playa24_7! Guys, I was so looking forward to dance with you!
and yes, just a small advise, most of you are aware!
If a stranger offers you something or asks you for something, just never take it or give it to him! NEVER. and I'll repeat
NEVER
doesn't matter if this is a drug, bottle of water or just a chewing gum!
all the best! waiting for a video!

OMG.. wicked wicked night!!!!
This was my first Labour of Love experience and I am damn glad I didn't miss it!
My night started off at 10pm in KH dancing and wandering around looking for friends I was suppose to meet there (non-TA's) and endeding up finding them only for a few moments until the Front and Centre began..
Markus took the stage.. having seen him twice prior to tonight and never disappointing, I knew it was gonna be good.. amazing tracks, great energy and he got the crowd moving for sure.. but I had to miss the last hour of his set because I just wasn't allowed to miss Digweed and so glad I didn't!!!
Digweed was absolutely amazing.. second time seeing him only.. it was incredibly packed in Guv too so half my time was spent out on the patio in the corner so I was actually able to dance (along with Nada, Ali, Alex, Milos, Kelly, Karen and Richelle. I was starting to get a little bored with his set (for a short period only) in the middle of it.. then all of a sudden out come the sick dirty beat... then I just couldn't help but to keep on moving.. couldn't stop!! Definitely a set I wish would have been recorded last night!!!
Once Digweed was done I wandered back over to KH to see the last hour of Blank & Jones... they played a couple of good tracks.. kept me moving still.. but I was waiting for Armin!
Armin came on.. OMG.. now I know why I have seen him 7 times and continue to see him every time he is in TO...cuz the man just doesn't know how to disappoint!!!
Not only does he bring the beats and energy.. he is sooo interactive with the crowd and it is nice that he always signs tons of stuff for his fans!! I was getting sooo tired from dancing but I just couldn't stop.. Armin is a God!!! It was nice to hear him drop Crush and Silence, shivers and clocks!! Such an amazing set.. I hope someone has this recorded
So after Armin Nada, Ali, Haris, Fahad and I all wandered into Guv again to catch some of Deep Dish... I was sooo tired from dancing for a good solid 11 hours by this time that I wanted to just die.. but upon entering Guv.. the beats just kept on coming.. there was no way my legs/feet were able to stop moving!! Just when I was ready to finally sit.. Pump Up The Jam is comin out of the speakers.. now I really can't sit... now I can't ID very well. but there were a ton of other tracks that I really enjoyed as well.. but my night was finally coming to an end.. as much as I wanted to stay and dance...it was now 10am and I had been dancing 12 hours straight without a sitdown break.. my legs were done!
overall it was an amazing party.. yeah it was packed but that was something I was prepared for.. didn't take many pics so i will post the few that I have later.. I was too busy dancing to worry about pics unless they were of the dj's
Also it was nice to see quite a few of the TA's out as well as meet a couple new ones
And to my crew (you know who you are).. you guys certainly made the night that much better for me.. I always love partyin it up with you guys.. thanks again.. luv ya much
bow down, girls. bow down.
DJ magnet in full effect.
Who's the one with the shades?
Demi played a good set. He set the stage with perfection for Digweed. Those last couple of tracks had the crowd in crazy anticipation.
Digweed was very good. He played a lot of groovey stuff, and then moved into the harder more driving stuff in no time. He played a few songs off his essential mix which I was happy about, but he didn't play Je Regrette Everything.
RJ and I witnessed something amazing during Digweed's set. Digger's dropped a tune, and after the build-up happened and the beat dropped it was like the party started. Up until that point, not everyone seemed into it, but this song was like the switch that turned everyone in the club on.
Deep Dish kinda' sucked up until about 5.00am, but as we all know, the Dish works their magic at the end of the night... and boy did they ever. That was some of the hardest, nastiest, tripped out house music I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. I have never heard, and will never find 75% of the songs they played after 5am. Ali & Sharam, you guys have proven once again that when it comes to the morning, you guys are the best.
I barely danced all night simply because there wasn't room to do so, but I danced hard for 5.5 hours without stopping once Deep Dish went to the next level. I don't think I've ever danced for that long or that hard.
I really liked how the Guv turned the lights off for Deep Dish's set. It definately added to the atmosphere. I really liked that C02 cannon too.
Too bad the Guv had to shut it down when they did. The club was still pretty packed at 10.40am. I have never seen any club (save the Zone) that packed at that time in the morning.
...On second thought, maybe it's good that they shut it down. I don't think anyone would have left until they did. I know I wouldn't have.
From the time I was there I thought the night was pretty frickin awesome. I had to leave early which I'm regretting still because I had to miss Armin...damn work.Grrrr.. Blank and Jones were awesome Mr Brightside remix was sick. I never have danced so hard. Damn work soo mad had to leave early reading the the other reviews is making me severly jealous. Kool Haus wasn't that packed. Guvernment I tried to go in there but it was impossible to move in there. I don't know how ppl were enjoying themselves. No room to dance. Awww I missed Armin again he's like my Pokaroo... jeeze.
Finally made it back to the US after a long 13 hour drive. I must say that The Guv was more then I expected, imo better then all the clubs in the US combined. I really didn't pay much to the music as I was to busy trying to fight the crowd most of the night, I still had a blast. The lights, the sound, the people. the DJs added to make the experience something else. I met a few TOTAs...Swamper nice to finally to meet you, DJ Robin, Moral Hazard, and VERTiGO as well. I'll definitely have to make it back to TO sometime in the future.
